UN General Assembly Approves Resolution On Militarization Of Crimea Sending Signal Of Support To Poroshenko Regime
On December 18, the UN General Assembly (GA) adopted a resolution voicing “grave concern over the progressive militarization of Crimea” as well as “over reports of the continuing destabilization of Crimea owing to transfers by the Russian Federation of weapon systems, including nuclear-capable aircraft and missiles, weapons, ammunition and military personnel to the territory of Ukraine.”
The document expressed concern over “multiple military exercises of Russian armed forces held in Crimea”, the building of the Kerch Strait bridge between Russia and the Crimean peninsula, the militarization of parts of the Black Sea surrounding the Crimea and the Sea of Azov by Russia adding that these actions “pose further threats to Ukraine and undermine the stability of the broader region.”
The resolution was initiated by the US, the UK, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, and Northern Ireland, and then submited to the UN GA by Ukraine.
66 countries voted in favor of the resolution titled “A/73/L47 Problem of the militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov”, 19 – against, 72 – abstained.
Commenting on the situation, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy said that it is disappointing to observe the “extremely politicized” document being adopted by the UN GA.
“It is disappointing that Kiev and its Western sponsors of the General Assembly have submitted yet another extremely politicized and mendacious subject,” Polyanskiy said. “We regret the vote that has happened, but we are heartened that many states abstained not wishing to have anything with this pernicious Ukrainian enterprise.”
“The Kiev regime thus receives new signals that it’s allowed everything and all will be forgiven, while Russia will be unconditionally blamed in advance for all its sins and crimes.“

French riot police could use chemical powder to demobilise yellow vest protesters
Losing the plot. Macron’s government to now employ a chemical powder for riot police to use against the Yellow Vest protesters.
As well, given the video footage given to Daily Mail of French riot police going inside of a Burger King restaurant to attack protesters and another of seven or eight riot police violently beating a lone protester, it gives one pause for thought, is this just to silence the voices of the French people?
The government have described the protesters as violent and the protests as a ‘law and order crisis’, though the leaked videos might seem to challenge the official position.
French police have already used water cannon and teargas, which is classed as a chemical weapon, and banned from warzones, in accordance with international agreements; on protesters.
This could raise questions among civic rights groups and monitoring organisations. The Hague-based Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, is one such organisation, of which France is a member.
In Great Britain, the use of teargas is heavily restricted. It would never be used against large crowds containing men, women and children, as France has been.
French security forces could use the debilitating powder in the centre of Paris against protesters. The chemical can be spread across an area equivalent to six football pitches in ten seconds.

Bolton Reveals ‘New’ US New Strategy To Combat Russian & Chinese Influence In Africa
On December 13th, White House National Security Adviser John Bolton unveiled Trump’s Africa strategy. The plan focuses heavily on “countering China and Russia’s expanding influence across the region, while also making sure US taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly with a reduction in US involvement in United Nations peacekeeping missions.”
He emphasized that the US vision for Africa is “one of independence, self-reliance, and growth — not dependency, domination, and debt.”
It is somehow, however, to include additional cuts to aid and peacekeeping programs.
“This strategy is the result of an intensive interagency process, and reflects the core tenets of President Trump’s foreign policy doctrine. Importantly, the strategy remains true to his central campaign promise to put the interests of the American people first, both at home and abroad,”he said.
“Under our new approach, every decision we make, every policy we pursue, and every dollar of aid we spend will further US priorities in the region.”
The plan relies on three priorities.
The first one is to enchance US economic ties with the regio; but without providing examples of how that would be done. Bolton also accused both Russia and China of “predatory practices,” which only benefit the countries and are detrimental to Africa itself.
“In short, the predatory practices pursued by China and Russia stunt economic growth in Africa; threaten the financial independence of African nations; inhibit opportunities for U.S. investment; interfere with U.S. military operations; and pose a significant threat to U.S. national security interests.”
The second priority, according to Bolton, is to counter the threats caused by “the lack of economic progress in the region has accompanied the proliferation of Radical Islamic Terrorism, and other forms of violent conflict, across Africa.”
Evidently, he mentioned Russia and China first, because they appear to be the prime guilty parties responsible for that lack of economic progress in his vision of the situation.
Bolton mentioned aid provided to Africa in past fiscal years and periods, saying that it hasn’t stopped Russia and China from taking advantage of African states.
Thus, the aid without effect will be cut, there will be no assistance without accountability.
“Americans are a generous people, but we insist that our money is put to good use,” Bolton said.

US Military Hospital in Germany Investigating Tainted Blood Supply Incident
An employee the US military’s main hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, is being investigated for potentially threatening its blood supplies, military medical officials reported Monday.
"Landstuhl Regional Medical Center was notified of a potential threat to its blood supply from a current employee," Gino Mattorano, a spokesperson for Regional Health Command Europe, said in a statement obtained by Stars and Stripes. Mattorano also noted that the hospital has taken action to secure the safety of its blood supply, patients and staff after what appears to have been a blood contamination incident. The hospital did not immediately respond to Sputnik's request for comment.
"The employee has been removed from duties. The hospital commander reported the matter to law enforcement for appropriate investigation and action," Mattorano added.
However, the hospital did not disclose any details about the nature of the potential threat, when the threat took place or who is under investigation. The hospital also did not provide any details about whether any staff members or past patients were exposed to contaminated blood.
The Armed Services Blood Program at Landstuhl, which treats US Army active-duty and reserve soldiers and Air Force personnel, collects blood and blood products at various blood drives, according to Stars and Stripes. The blood is then sent to US European Command, Africa Command and Central Command.
Landstuhl is also a trauma center for US troops injured in conflict areas, such as Afghanistan. Since 2001, more than 95,000 US service members injured in Iraq and Afghanistan have been treated at the hospital, Stars and Stripes reports.
Landstuhl also serves thousands of servicemembers stationed at Ramstein Air Base, a US Air Force base in Rhineland-Palatinate, a state in southwestern Germany.

My final destination was Taiz, a city over 150 miles to the south, up in the mountains. In the day I would wander over to the leper colony and play chess with men and women, who would grasp the pieces between their wrists because they had lost all their fingers. No doubt Edward Said would accuse me of the worst kind of sentimentalised Orientalism as I lay on the roof at night and listened to the call to prayer waft over the town. But aesthetically, I still find Islam the most beautiful of the world’s religious traditions. And I fell in love with Yemen and with Taiz.

Flynn Sentencing POSTPONED – Status Report Due March 13
General Michael Flynn and his wife arrived Tuesday morning at the E. Barrett Prettyman Federal Courthouse for his sentencing at 11:00 AM.
Judge Sullivan offered Flynn several times to postpone the sentencing and to give him the opportunity to withdraw his guilty plea.
The court took a 30 minutes recess and when Flynn returned, his lawyers announced they will take the judge’s offer to postpone the sentencing.
A joint status report is due in 90 days – March 13th.
General Flynn backed off from his theory that he was entrapped by the FBI and forced into a guilty plea earlier Tuesday morning.
Mueller’s prosecutor Brandon Van Grack told Judge Sullivan Tuesday that the Special Counsel was going to indict Flynn on the Turkish lobbying case unless he cooperated.
Judge Sullivan then said to General Flynn of the charges against him that he ‘arguably sold his country out.’
Sullivan offered Flynn several chances to postpone and said he had “concerns” based on Flynn’s pre-sentencing filing. ”I cannot recall any incident in which the court has accepted a plea of guilty from someone who maintained he was not guilty and I don’t intend to start today.”

The Saudi-led war in Yemen has created what the U.N. calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with 14 million of Yemen’s 28 million people on the brink of famine. A remarkable piece in this week’s New York Times Magazine traces how bombs built by Raytheon in Tucson, Arizona, made its way into the Saudi arsenal and then were dropped on Yemeni villages. The article centers on what happened in the remote village of Arhab when U.S.-backed Saudi warplanes carried out a series of bombings on September 10, 2016. But the bill is not expected to pass the House, at least this year. The vote came as peace talks in Sweden resulted in a ceasefire in the strategic port city of Hodeidah that’s scheduled to go into effect at midnight. The Saudi-led war on Yemen has created what the U.N. calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with more than half of Yemen’s 28 million people on the brink of famine. A recent report by Save the Children estimates 85,000 children under the age of 5 have died from acute malnutrition brought on by the war.

MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Russia’s advanced weapons, which will ensure the country’ security for decades to come, will force those who got accustomed to militarist rhetoric to think, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the Defense Ministry’s expanded board meeting on Tuesday.
"A serious breakthrough has been made in developing advanced and unparalleled weapons, about which I said in the address to the Federal Assembly on March 1 this year," Putin said. "I hope our newest systems will make think those who got accustomed to militarist and aggressive rhetoric."
The Russian leader noted that serial production of Avangard hypersonic missile systems has been launched, and successful tests of Russia’s most advanced Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile have been carried out. The Kinzhal air-launched precision hypersonic weapon has been successfully placed on combat duty and Peresvet combat lasers have entered duty.
Putin stressed that "these weapons significantly increase the potential of the army and the fleet," thus reliably ensuring Russia’s security for decades to come. These developments also strengthen the balance of power and global stability, he stressed.
The president also stated that the forces’ operational and combat readiness has seriously grown. Six independent checks carried out this year confirmed this, he noted. Russia’s forces and means can be swiftly deployed to the distances of up to 7,000 km and reinforce groups in crucial strategic directions.
"Good results were shown at massive Vostok-2018 maneuvers," the president said, noting that partners from China and Mongolia acted in line with the general plan and under single combat rules with Russian units.
Putin also mentioned the Ocean Shield drills, held in the Mediterranean Sea for the first time, when a large fleet grouping together with the long-range aviation solved a broad range of tasks, using the newest tactical methods of actions of naval forces and aviation.

The study fed rats aspartame for durations of 10 – 40 days, then decapitated the rats and analyzed their brains. From the abstract, “Blood and brain tissue were collected for biochemical analysis. Biochemical analysis of brain tissue includes neurotransmitters (Acetylcholine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, ?-aminobutyric acid and serotonin). Serum for determination of lipid peroxidation (MDA), reduced glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD).”
Shocking results show aspartame eviscerated brain neurotransmitters
The results of the study found a dose-dependent relationship between aspartame consumption and the destruction of neurotransmitters — brain chemicals necessary for the function of neurons.
“Brain neurotransmitters levels (serotonin, GABA and dopamine) were reduced significantly compared with control,” the study says. Furthermore, levels of brain antioxidants that protect brain tissue from oxidation damage — often caused by chemical exposure — were sharply depleted. “…[D]ata obtained showed that antioxidant activities (SOD and GSH) were reduced significantly,” the study reports.
The conclusion of the study found that, “Consumption of [aspartame] for a long time increased oxidative stress in brain tissue and disruption in neurotransmitters that affect physiological functions.”
