My stupid theory: spain is the default country programmed by the developer (maybe he's spanish, whois is hidden).

The data is missing the country so spain is shown.

This actually comes from the back end because the json contains "cou":"spain" explicitly

Why?

• no plane missing country that i could find

• remembered from some old planefagging about planes at 0,0 mostly showing as spain

Occams' razor, right?
