The Covenant Is Broken

11 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Listen to the terms of this covenant and tell them to the people of Judah and to those who live in Jerusalem. 3 Tell them that this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Cursed is the one who does not obey the terms of this covenant— 4 the terms I commanded your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of the iron-smelting furnace.’ I said, ‘Obey me and do everything I command you, and you will be my people, and I will be your God. 5 Then I will fulfill the oath I swore to your ancestors, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey’—the land you possess today.”

I answered, “Amen, Lord.”

6 The Lord said to me, “Proclaim all these words in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem: ‘Listen to the terms of this covenant and follow them. 7 From the time I brought your ancestors up from Egypt until today, I warned them again and again, saying, “Obey me.” 8 But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubbornness of their evil hearts. So I brought on them all the curses of the covenant I had commanded them to follow but that they did not keep.’”

9 Then the Lord said to me, “There is a conspiracy among the people of Judah and those who live in Jerusalem. 10 They have returned to the sins of their ancestors, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both Israel and Judah have broken the covenant I made with their ancestors. 11 Therefore this is what the Lord says: ‘I will bring on them a disaster they cannot escape. Although they cry out to me, I will not listen to them. 12 The towns of Judah and the people of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they will not help them at all when disaster strikes. 13 You, Judah, have as many gods as you have towns; and the altars you have set up to burn incense to that shameful god Baal are as many as the streets of Jerusalem.’

14 “Do not pray for this people or offer any plea or petition for them, because I will not listen when they call to me in the time of their distress.

Plot Against Jeremiah

18 Because the Lord revealed their plot to me, I knew it, for at that time he showed me what they were doing. 19 I had been like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter; I did not realize that they had plotted against me, saying,

“Let us destroy the tree and its fruit;

let us cut him off from the land of the living,

that his name be remembered no more.”

But you, Lord Almighty, who judge righteously

and test the heart and mind,

let me see your vengeance on them,

for to you I have committed my cause.

21 Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are threatening to kill you, saying, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord or you will die by our hands”— 22 therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will punish them. Their young men will die by the sword, their sons and daughters by famine. 23 Not even a remnant will be left to them, because I will bring disaster on the people of Anathoth in the year of their punishment.”

Pro-Leave Tories Make Final Plea for Full Brexit Ahead of Crunch Vote on May Deal

A group of senior Tory MPs including several former ministers have stepped up calls for the Brexit vote to be respected and for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union cleanly as the Commons prepares to vote on Theresa May’s compromise deal on Tuesday.

In a joint letter published Monday, 12 former cabinet ministers said the nation had to prepare to Brexit on No Deal terms and adopt a standard World Trade Organization (WTO) relationship with the EU — Westminster jargon for properly leaving the European Union without paying a £39 billion “divorce bill” or being subject to EU rules and laws in the future.

Among those co-signing the letter was former Conservative Party leader Iain Duncan Smith, former Brexit ministers David Davis and Dominic Raab, and former foreign secretary Boris Johnson, who also penned an opinion piece for the Daily Telegraph newspaper putting his case more forcefully.

The letter, which was sent to all Tory MPs and called on them to vote against their Prime Minister and party leader, argued that the short-term inconvenience of a “Hard Brexit” is far preferable to the terms of the deal Mrs May has proposed, which they explain would actually prevent a future good relationship from forming.

They wrote: “[W]e can and must fulfil the democratic wishes of the people of the UK. Parliament has an obligation to deliver on the 2016 referendum result to take back control over borders, laws, and money. The Conservative Party Manifesto and the Prime Minister in several speeches (including Lancaster House, Mansion House, and Florence) promised to be true to that vote and to ensure the UK does indeed take back control to become a self-governing nation again.

“The manifesto committed us to leaving the Single Market and the Customs Union. Disregarding such promises risks having dire electoral consequences.

“That is why, if it is the only way forward, we must have the confidence to be ready to leave on WTO terms. A managed WTO Brexit may give rise to some short-term inconvenience and disruption, but the much greater risks arise from being locked into a very bad deal.

“Thankfully the UK and other EU governments, and the EU itself, are all accelerating plans for a managed no deal exit.”

Turkish Foreign Minister: Syrian Government, Its Allies Are To Blame If Idlib Becomes “Terrorist Nest”

The Syrian government and the countries that support it are responsible is to blame if Idlib becomes “terrorist nest”, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlet Cavusoglu said on January 14. The foreign minister blaimed the Syrian government and its allies for moving in terrorists from places as far as Daraa in the south.

He stressed that Turkey is doing what is required to maintain peace and prevent violations in the Idlib de-escalation zone. He even claimed that the Idlib deal reached between Turkey and Russia last September has been “successfully” implemented despite difficult conditions.

Cavusolgu statment came amid a recent series of concerning developments in the Idlib de-escalation zone during which Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) seized northwestern Hama and western Aleppo from Turkish-backed groups and forced them to accept Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s Salvation Government as the authority in their areas. Furthermore, a notable part of members of the Turkish-backed National Front for Liberation are currently fleeing to the Turkish-occupied area of Afrin, which is located outside of the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Turkey and its opposition to a military operation to eliminate Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib is the main reason behind the possibility of this expansion. However, Ankara prefers to blame Damacus and its allies for own actions in support of the terrorists in Idlib.

Top Canadian Court Permits Worldwide Internet Censorship

A country has the right to prevent the world’s Internet users from accessing information, Canada’s highest court ruled on Wednesday.

In a decision that has troubling implications for free expression online, the Supreme Court of Canada upheld a company’s effort to force Google to de-list entire domains and websites from its search index, effectively making them invisible to everyone using Google’s search engine

The case, Google v. Equustek, began when British Columbia-based Equustek Solutions accused Morgan Jack and others, known as the Datalink defendants, of selling counterfeit Equustek routers online. It claimed California-based Google facilitated access to the defendants’ sites. The defendants never appeared in court to challenge the claim, allowing default judgment against them, which meant Equustek effectively won without the court ever considering whether the claim was valid.

Although Google was not named in the lawsuit, it voluntarily took down specific URLs that directed users to the defendants’ products and ads under the local (Canadian) Google.ca domains. But Equustek wanted more, and the British Columbia Supreme Court ruled that Google had to delete the entire domain from its search results, including from all other domains such Google.com and Google.go.uk. The British Columbia Court of Appeal upheld the decision, and the Supreme Court of Canada decision followed the analysis of those courts.

EFF intervened in the case, explaining [.pdf] that such an injunction ran directly contrary to both the U.S. Constitution and statutory speech protections. Issuing an order that would cut off access to information for U.S. users would set a dangerous precedent for online speech. In essence, it would expand the power of any court in the world to edit the entire Internet, whether or not the targeted material or site is lawful in another country. That, we warned, is likely to result in a race to the bottom, as well-resourced individuals engage in international forum-shopping to impose the one country’s restrictive laws regarding free expression on the rest of the world.

Canada plans to welcome more than 1,000,000 new immigrants in the next three years

The population of Canada is 36.71 million. The population of the United States is 325.7 million. So this would be comparable to the U.S. bringing in 8,700,000 immigrants, roughly the entire population of the state of Virginia. If anyone thinks that won’t cause massive upheaval, they’re terminally naive or ideologically blinkered. Among these immigrants will be a certain number of Islamic jihadis, but Canadian officials show no concern about that whatsoever. Even to discuss such a possibility would be “Islamophobic.”

Israeli actions in Syria no different from those of IS: ministry

DAMASCUS, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) – The Syrian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the Israeli actions in Syria are no different from those of Islamic State (IS) militants, state news agency SANA reported.

The ministry made the remarks in its letters to the UN about the Israeli missile attack on Syrian military sites in the capital Damascus on Friday.

"These coward attacks and the deliberate repetition of such dangerous provocations indicate the reality of what Israel is doing, which doesn't differ from the actions of the IS and the al-Qaida Nusra Front," the ministry said.

Meanwhile, the ministry said the "dangerous and aggressive" approach of Israel would not happen without the political, military and media covers of the United States.

The ministry further charged that the U.S. support to Israel enables it to continue its "state terrorism," which "threatens the peace and security in the region with impunity."

The ministry urged the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities to deter such attacks by Israel.

On Friday night, Israel carried out missile strikes on military bases around the capital Damascus.

The Syrian army said its air defenses intercepted most of the missiles, adding that only a warehouse in the Damascus international airport was damaged.

Yoav Gallant dismisses Palestinian state, calls to annex West Bank

Israel must apply sovereignty to Area C of the West Bank, Aliya and Integration Minister Yoav Gallant said on Sunday during a campaign stop in the Binyamin region of the West Bank.

He also dismissed the possibility of creating a Palestinian state in the West Bank.

"I am clearly saying no, to a Palestinian state. It is not possible to have more than one state west of the Jordan River,” Gallant said.

“This is the place of the Jewish, Zionist and democratic state of Israel,” whose existence is baed on the strength of the biblical forefathers, Galant said.

“We will work to apply sovereignty in all of Judea and Samaria and to strengthen the settlements,” Gallant said, adding that “settlements are the only key to holding onto sovereignty and Zionism.”

“Settlements are the new Zionism of the 21st Century,” Gallant said.

These communities also play an important role in providing public safety, he said, adding they “are the eastern security belt for the State of Israel.”

He also warned terrorists against future attacks, explaining that anyone who tries to harm the state or its people is risking their life.

“We will get every terrorist. They will end their life in prison or in the cemetery," he said.

Gallant, who left the Kulanu party to join the Likud, had been the Housing and Construction Minister and was known for his strong support of the settlements, including advancing the building project in Efrat known on the Givat HaEitam hilltop.

On Sunday he braved the wet weather and the cold winds to settlements of Beit Aryeh, Neve Tzuf, Eli and Shiloh. His statements there place him to the right of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who does not support the application of sovereignty at this time, or at any time during his last eight years as prime minister.

Israel company admits spying on Emir of Qatar

The CEO of Israeli spyware company NSO Group has admitted that its software was used to spy on the Emir of Qatar.

In an interview with Yedioth Ahronoth this weekend, Shalev Hulio admitted that his company’s product was used to spy on Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, as well as Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

The interview disclosed that NSO’s “Pegasus” software – which can be used to remotely infect a target’s mobile phone and then relay back data accessed by the device – was used to intercept phone calls and text messages made by both the Qatari foreign minister and the Emir. These conversations reportedly concerned “hundreds of millions of dollars in ransom to Iran and Hezbollah for the release of several Qataris,” some of which was allegedly sent to the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, Qasem Soleimani.

This spying was seemingly undertaken at the behest of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Hulio revealed that the Israeli Defense Export Control Agency (DECA) authorised three deals with the UAE for the sale of NSO software, despite the fact that DECA is only supposed to give authorisation for the “purpose of fighting terrorism and crime”.

These deals – allegedly mediated by former senior Israeli defence officials with close ties to a senior Emirati official – raised a total of $80 million in revenue for NSO.

NSO’s Pegasus software has come under increasing scrutiny in recent months after the product was revealed to be complicit in the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Though Hulio stressed in the interview with Yedioth Ahronoth this weekend that “Khashoggi was not targeted by any NSO product or technology, including listening, monitoring, location tracking and intelligence collection,” it appears that Saudi Arabia used NSO software to spy on many of Khashoggi’s friends and associates.

US whistle-blower Edward Snowden has been at the forefront of these claims, telling the Israeli newspaper: “I do not pretend that NSO is involved in hacking [directly] into Khashoggi’s phone, so their denial does not take us to a different conclusion. The evidence shows that the company’s products were involved in hacking into the phones of [Khashoggi’s] friends Omar Abdel Aziz, Yahya Assiri, and Ghanem Al-Masarir.”

The UAE is also known to have been using NSO’s software for some time. In 2016, Citizen Lab and Apple revealed there were attempts to infect an iPhone owned by the Emirati human rights activist Ahmed Mansoor. Mansoor had raised the alarm after receiving suspicious text intended to “bait to get him to click on a link, which would have led to the infection of his Apple iPhone 6 and control of the device through a spy software created by the NSO Group”.
