The only people who seem to understand that there may be more to Trump than his crazy antics are those who realised already that this world is broken and that we are all slaves to national debt and big companies, who are trying to have more control over us than the 'people' we elect to govern us (think TPP).

SCOTT Morrison ‘accelerates’ FREE trade deal with EU nations

A historic free-trade agreement with the EU could be finalised before the federal election, with Scott Morrison sealing a pact with European leaders at the G20 leaders’ summit to “accelerate” negotiations for greater Australian export access to the $17 trillion market.

The Prime Minister returns to Canberra this morning having rescued Australia’s $50 billion future submarine contract following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, and securing a formal one-on-one meeting with Mr Trump.

He told The Australian the most significant breakthrough for Australia was an agreement with European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker to speed up negotiations on an Australia-EU free-trade agreement.

It is understood a new timetable could deliver the deal in the first half of next year and potentially before the May election.

The deal would remove tariffs on a range of Australian goods and services into Australia’s second-largest trading partner, a market of more than 500 million people.

“There was a high level political commitment to move forward as quickly as possible,” Mr Morrison told The Australian. “We agreed we needed to accelerate the EU FTA. That is a very big deal. It is a demonstration of free trade while there are obstacles in other parts of the world. This is in the vicinity of (the) Japan and Korea (FTAs) … because of the size and sophistication involved. I call them the ‘premier league’ agreements.”

Australians Evacuated as 'Unprecedented' Flood Hits Queensland

Australia's emergency services are grappling with a disastrous flood caused by torrential monsoon rain in Queensland; up to 500 homes in Townsville are now underwater after authorities decided to open the gates of the Ross River Dam, news.com.au reports.

At least 200,000 people were affected by the flood and up to 500 homes in Australian Townsville are now underwater due to dangerous "unprecedented" flooding that affects Queensland, according to the Australian media.

Moreover, the disaster made some snakes and crocodiles start roaming the streets.

This comes after, earlier, the monsoon forced the authorities to initiate the full opening of the floodgates at the Ross River's dam releasing approximately 2,000 cubic meters of water per second.

Emergency services are now working at the scene to evacuate people and eliminate the disaster. Moreover, the Australian military has arrived to provide assistance.

The Australian media cited the officials as saying that "dangerous and high velocity flows" had been spotted along the Ross River. This made the authorities issue a major flood warning after record heavy rains.

Despite these efforts, by Monday morning, the dam has held over 500,000 gigaliters of water which represents its 229 percent capacity.

Deadly dome of gorgeous Pacific island leaking radioactive waste

IT LOOKS like an eerie UFO landing site, but this dome, found on a picturesque atoll northeast of Australia, has a much more sinister purpose.

A PICTURESQUE coral atoll that lies northeast of Australia in the Pacific Ocean harbours a deadly secret.

A giant, concrete dome filled with radioactive waste looms above Runit Island, and it’s leaking. Locals call it “The Tomb”.

Runit (or Cactus) dome was used for Cold War nuclear testing by the US government for 10 years from 1948. There were 42 tests in total on Enewetak Atoll, including 22 explosions on platforms, barges and underwater in the space of just three months in 1958, just before a moratorium on atomic testing.

In the late 1970s, an estimated 73,000 cubic metres of contaminated topsoil was deposited in the Cactus nuclear test crater beneath the dome, according to a report commissioned by the US government.

It was only supposed to be a temporary measure — but the dome remains.

Scientists now fear that a major storm, typhoon or other natural disaster could damage the 46cm-thick concrete dome, releasing nuclear waste into the sea, The Guardian reports.

Japan, Germany to reach broad accord on info pact

Sourced from QRes#6423 >>5030854 and included here as Japan/Australia connection also mentioned.

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were slated to reach a broad accord on concluding a bilateral information protection agreement at their summit in Tokyo on Monday.

The two leaders are also expected to agree to promote free trade, bearing in mind protectionist moves by the United States under President Donald Trump, and affirm their cooperation for a summit of the Group of 20 key advanced and developing economies to be held in Osaka in June.

The envisioned information protection pact is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Japan and Germany in the field of security.

It will cover the sharing of terrorism-related and other intelligence information and the management of information provided by the other nation.

Japan has concluded similar agreements with eight partners, including the United States, Australia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Following the entry into force of the Japan-European Union economic partnership agreement on Friday, Abe and Merkel are set to confirm both sides’ commitment to strengthening economic cooperation.

They are also expected to discuss Britain’s planned exit from the EU in late March, as well as Japan-Germany collaboration for stability in Africa and the Indo-Pacific region.

Now that we are talking about Five Eyes and foreign goverments spying on each other to circumvent their own anti-spying laws … lets not forget Pine Gap.

Revealed: the room inside Pine Gap no Australian could enter, bar one

An old US diplomatic cable uncovered by Privacy International has confirmed the existence of a secret room at America’s Pine Gap spy base that Australians were not allowed to enter - except for one time when Bill Hayden had a look.

It calls into question a claim made at the time in March, 1985, by then defence minister Kim Beazley, who said the government was fully aware of everything that takes place at Pine Gap, near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

The cable was released to PI by the US State Department after a lawsuit seeking access to details of the scope of intelligence gathering across the globe.

PI said it was a "case study" of how intelligence sharing arrangements are "typically confidential and not subject to parliamentary scrutiny" and could be used to circumvent a country’s laws.

Beazley had appeared on Channel 9’s Sunday program responding to reports that US bases in Australia were intercepting telephone and other electronic information in friendly countries and within Australia.

"We say emphatically that the facilities do not spy on Australia," Beazley said. Pine Gap's role was to help verify arms control agreements and provide adequate early warning of missile launches, he said.

Canberra strands Beijing's man offshore, denies passport

Billionaire political donor and Beijing's former top lobbyist in Australia, Huang Xiangmo, has been stranded overseas after Australian officials declared him unfit to hold an Australian passport, and cancelled his permanent residency.

The Age and Sydney Morning Herald have confirmed Mr Huang is fighting to return to his $13 million Sydney mansion after being notifed by Australian officials while out of the country that his long-stalled application to become an Australian citizen has been turned down.

The decision is the first enforcement action to be made by Canberra against a suspected Chinese Communist Party influence agent after the Coalition launched a counter-interference campaign against Beijing in 2018.

The blocking of Mr Huang's citizenship raises questions about whether Labor and the Coalition should return the almost $2.7 million he has made in political donations over five years.

Twitter investor to help build Australian crypto bank

ASX-listed company, First Growth Funds, has hired early stage Twitter investor, Jeff Pulver, to help it build a crypto bank.

Mr Pulver will join the board of First Growth Advisory Pty Ltd, which is working towards building a fully regulated boutique investment bank, focused on advising wholesale and institutional investors in the crypto and digital assets markets.

Anoosh Manzoori, Executive Chairman of First Growth Funds (ASX:FGF), announced the high-profile coup in an ASX market release.

“We have a clear first mover advantage and want to position ourselves as a market leader in the institutional and regulated crypto and digital asset market,” said Mr Manzoori.

“As this industry goes mainstream, particularly for institutional investors, we want to be their first choice for investments, advisory and trading.

Internet pioneer turned crypto bull

Jeff Pulver is most famous for pioneering voice-over-internet-protocal (VOIP) during the early stages of the internet.

In 1998 he raised US$12m to create ‘Vonage‘, one of the first ever VOIP companies.

Twitter Bitcoin

Early stage Twitter investor and VOIP pioneer, Jeff Pulver, has joined Australian crypto company, First Growth Funds.

The New York-based tech entrepreneur saw the potential of Twitter when few were using the platform.

Not only did he invest in Twitter Inc, he organised a global twitter conference, known as the 140 Character Conference.

His involvement with First Growth Funds follows multiple other significant cryptocurrency roles.

Mr Pulver established the Blockchain Token Association, was previously Vice Chairman of a large New York blockchain advisory and investment firm and was an advisor to security token trading platform tZERO that raised US$134m.

Also joining Mr Pulver on the First Growth Funds Advisory board is fellow New Yorker, James Haft.

FGF says previously Mr Haft was the MD of Latin American Equity Capital Markets at INGBarings, Founder and MD of Emerging Markets Investment Banking at Furman Selz, and MD of Asian Investment Banking in Hong Kong for Bear Stearns.

No time-frame has been set for the creation of the crypto bank.

Twitter, Bitcoin and social media’s blockchain future

Jeff Pulver is by no means the only Bitcoin bull to emerge from Twitter Inc.

On Saturday (2/1/19) Twitter CEO and Co-Founder, Jack Dorsey, was interviewed by Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Speaking about Bitcoin, Mr Dorsey, said he believes it will “probably” become the native currency of the internet.

Huawei Tried To Steal His Technology, But He Was Working For The FBI All Along

Sourced from QRes#6451 >>5051758

Included as Australia banning Huawei tech mentioned

Adam Khan believed he had invented nearly indestructible glass that was going to revolutionize the technology industry. His "diamond glass" looked like ordinary glass, but was 6 times stronger than the industry standard. His plan, according to a new Bloomberg article? License the technology to phone manufacturers and turn a pretty penny for his company, Akhan Semiconductor, Inc.

As part of his research, he sent a specimen of his glass to a San Diego lab that was owned by Huawei Technologies to have it evaluated for potential licensing - but the sample he received back after testing was badly damaged, leading him to believe it may have been tampered with.

Khan said he was optimistic at first: “We were very optimistic. Having one of the top three smartphone manufacturers back you, at least on paper, is very attractive.”

But he then found himself paranoid about knockoffs - and became even more paranoid when Huawei began to "behave suspiciously" after getting his sample. They missed a deadline to return his sample and when they did return it, it was broken in several pieces and three shards of glass were missing altogether.

He said: “My heart sank. I thought, ‘Great, this multibillion-dollar company is coming after our technology. What are we going to do now?’”

Khan was likely further surprised when he was approached by the FBI to help with an ongoing investigation into Huawei. The FBI wanted Khan and Akhan’s chief operations officer, Carl Shurboff, to conduct an undercover meeting with Huawei in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show. Shurboff was outfitted with surveillance devices and recorded the conversation, while a reporter from Bloomberg watched from a safe distance.

During the conversation, Khan and his COO "succeeded in getting Huawei representatives to admit, on tape, to breaking the contract with Akhan and, evidently, to violating U.S. export-control laws."

Subsequent to that, when an FBI gemology expert was able to examine the glass Khan had received back, they determined the Huawei had blasted it with a 100 kW laser, which is "powerful enough to be used as a weapon".

The investigation Khan is involved in is separate from recent indictments against the company. It is hardly the last as it seems that every day, more Huawei stones continue to turn over.

“Today should serve as a warning that we will not tolerate businesses that violate our laws, obstruct justice, or jeopardize national and economic well-being,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in a January 28 press release about indictments regarding technology allegedly stolen by Huawei from T-Mobile. On that same day, the FBI raided the San Diego lab where Khan had sent his glass.

Display glass is considered to be a significant competitive advantage in the world of smart phones. Khan had been working on diamond glass going back to his college days when he began learning about nanodiamonds at the age of 19. According to Bloomberg:

After graduation, he ran experiments at the Stanford Nanofabrication Facility and teamed up with researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory, eventually developing and patenting a way to deposit a thin coating of tiny diamonds on materials such as glass. He also licensed diamond-related patents for Akhan from the Argonne lab in 2014. By the following year, Khan was confident enough to start promoting his new technology.

If the FBI's new investigation into Huawei continues to provide substantial evidence, it will bolster the Trump administration's case to block the Chinese company from selling equipment for 5G use in the US. Some countries, like Australia, have already banned Huawei equipment for fear of not being able to protect IP that's in the interest of national security.

Khan's final take? All companies of all sizes should be watching out for Huawei as closely as possible: “I think they’re identifying technologies that are key to their road map and going after them no matter what the size or scale or status of the business. I wouldn’t say they’re discriminating.”

Woman who accused John of God cult leader of rape mysteriously kills herself at Spanish home

AN ACTIVIST whose claims led to the "rape" arrest of a celebrity healer called John of God has taken her own life at her hideaway in Spain.

Sex abuse support group Victimas Unidas, which worked with Sabrina Bittencourt, said she had left a note explaining why she killed herself.

Eldest son Gabriel Baum confirmed her death, writing on Facebook: “She took the last step so that we could live. They killed my mother.”

More than 600 women have accused John of God - real name Joao Teixeira de Faria - of sexually abusing them during so-called healing sessions.

He was arrested in his homeland of Brazil in December and remanded in prison before being charged with rape and sexual assault.

The cult leader gained international fame in 2010 when US TV star Oprah Winfrey visited his retreat to interview him for her talk show.

She wrote she left feeling “an overwhelming sense of peace”, although she later deleted the comments and has since said she

hopes justice is done.

Teixeira de Faria’s claims of healing powers brought people from around the world to his compounds in the small town of Abadiania.

BABY FARM CLAIMS

Bill Clinton and supermodel Naomi Campbell are rumoured to be among the high-profile celebrities to have visited the 77-year-old.

Mrs Bittencourt, 38, who was "living under the protection" after receiving death threats, claimed Teixeira de Faria ran a “sex slave farm.”

The mum-of-three claimed young girls were held captive to produce babies to be sold on the black market before being murdered.

She was quoted as saying: “Hundreds of girls were enslaved over years, lived on farms in Goias, served as wombs to get pregnant, for their babies to be sold.”

Mrs Bittencourt said she had received reports of the newborns being sold for up to £40,000 in Europe, USA and Australia.

She added: “These girls were murdered after 10 years of giving birth. We have got a number of testimonies.”

Announcing her death Vitimas Unidas said: "(The) group announces with regret the death of Sabrina Bittencourt, which occurred around 9pm on Saturday in Barcelona.

“The activist committed suicide and left a farewell note explaining the reasons why she took her own life.

“We ask you all not to try to contact her relatives. Two of her three children are still not aware of what happened and their father, Rafael Velasco, is trying to protect them.”

Vancouver Home Prices Post Biggest Drop In Six Years As Foreign Bid Vanishes

Sourced from QRes#6461 >>5060097

Included as Australia housing market also mentioned and we also have been the victim of artificial price growth as a result of cashed up Chinese buyers in our housing market.

When China started tightening its capital controls on both its upper-crust investors and its public and private companies back in 2016, we anticipated that the bubble in popular urban markets (markets like London, New York City, Sydney, Hong Kong and Vancouver) was officially doomed to burst in the not-too-distant future.

And as a flood of stories over the past year have confirmed, once the foreign (mostly Chinese) bid was withdrawn, property prices started to drop. It's happening in Australia (and especially in Melbourne and Sydney), it's happening in New York, it's happening in London and - as we've catalogued over the past few quarters, it's happening in Vancouver, which for a while held the ignominious title of world's most overpriced housing market.

After a chasm opened up between bids and asks in the Vancouver housing market last year, the halt in home sales has finally started filtering through to prices as reluctant sellers finally cave and cut their prices. According to data from the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, the city's composite home price (which incorporates prices of houses, condominiums and townhouses) fell 4.5% in January from a year earlier to C$1.02 million ($780,000), the biggest decline since May 2013 and down about 8% from the June 2018 peak.

Chinese contractor for Australia's AMP charged with stealing customer data

Sourced from QRes#6464 >>5062152

A Chinese contractor for Australian financial planner AMP Ltd was charged with stealing the confidential data of 20 of its customers, police and the company said on Thursday.

The man, named by authorities as Yi Zheng, 28, pleaded guilty to the offence in a Sydney court on Thursday, the Australian Associated Press reported.

New South Wales state police said they began investigating the breach after AMP's cybersecurity staff noticed suspicious activity on the company network in December.

The investigation led them to Yi, who had downloaded 23 identity-related documents belonging to 20 customers and sent them to his personal email account, police said.

Yi was arrested as he tried to board a flight to China on Jan. 17, police said, adding that they seized mobile phones, SIM cards, a laptop, and other electronic storage devices from his luggage.

He was charged "with possess identity info to commit indictable offence", police said, without saying what the man planned to do with the customer information.

"Identity information is an extremely valuable commodity on the black market and dark web, and anyone – whether an individual or business – who stores this data needs to ensure it is protected," New South Wales Cybercrime Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Matt Craft, said in a statement.

An AMP spokeswoman said the data breach involved a small amount of customer information and there was no evidence the data was further compromised.

The company had contacted all affected customers, put extra security controls in place for those customers, and notified the relevant regulators.

Yi's lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

McAuliffe got Huawei to invest in GreenTech through a financing firm called Gulf Coast Funds Management, headed by Hillary’s brother, Tony Rodham. Gulf Coast, boasting the Rodham name, agreed to help Huawei get visas for its top executives under the EB-5 program, which awards visas to those who invest at least $500,000 in the U.S. to create jobs.

The feds had already turned Huawei down because of its links to the Chinese military.

Huawei’s misdeeds are plentiful.

It helped Saddam Hussein install fiber optic cables in violation of U.S. sanctions.

It also helped the Taliban by installing a phone system in Kabul, Afghanistan.

It stole proprietary material from U.S. high-tech company Cisco Systems. This material ended up in Chinese hands.

In 2013, Huawei tried to sell telecom equipment made by Hewlett-Packard to Iran in defiance of sanctions. And, until a few weeks ago, the parent company of Huawei’s Iranian business partner was partly owned by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which is playing the key role in Iran’s nuclear program.

According to the South China Morning Post, the U.S. action against Huawei “will severely damage, even cripple, the Chinese company. Of Huawei’s 92 core suppliers, 33 are U.S. corporations, including chip makers Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Marvell and Micron. If Washington now prohibits these companies from selling to Huawei, the Chinese telecoms giant will struggle to survive.”

And, if their full role in the liaison with Huawei comes out, so will Bill and Hillary.

Fallout at NAB over Banking Royal Commission Report

'Deeply sorry' NAB chair and CEO both resign after horror week

... of course they are (deeply sorry)

... sorry they got caught .. kek

National Australia Bank has been plunged into turmoil, with chairman Ken Henry and chief executive Andrew Thorburn both resigning in the wake of blistering criticism from the banking royal commission and a deepening crisis over alleged rorts by a former senior staffer.

After a horror week for the banking giant, it announced on Thursday night that Phil Chronican, a board member, would act as chief executive from next month, with Mr Thorburn set to leave his post at the end of February.

Dr Henry said he would retire once the bank had appointed a permanent chief executive, which could take "some months".

Dr Henry, a former Treasury Secretary, said he and Mr Thorburn were "deeply sorry" over the bank's failure to live up to customer and community expectations.

The royal commission's final report on Monday singled out Mr Thorburn and Dr Henry for harsh criticism, saying they had not learnt the lessons from past misconduct, particularly in NAB's wealth management arm that had charged $100 million in fees without providing services in return.

'Eroding consumer trust': ASIC takes NAB to court over fees for no service

National Australia Bank has been accused of misleading customers and breaching financial services laws, in a new lawsuit from the corporate watchdog that alleges it charged hundreds of thousands of superannuation members about $100 million for services that were not provided.

In a fresh blow to the bank after its gruelling appearance at the royal commission last month, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) on Thursday launched the action against two NAB-owned trustees, which are meant to look after super fund members' interests.

The case is ASIC's first action over an industry-wide scandal known as "fee for no service" that has cost consumers about $1 billion. The watchdog is expected to take further action against other major financial institutions over the issue.

Andrew Thorburn's former chief of staff (Rosemary Rogers) allegedly rorted $500k for a holiday

The former chief of staff of embattled National Australia Bank boss Andrew Thorburn allegedly rorted more than $500,000 from the NAB to fund an extravagant overseas family holiday that included first class travel and luxury resorts.

The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald have confirmed that police are investigating whether shoddy oversight inside Mr Thorburn's office enabled and emboldened his former chief of staff, Rosemary Rogers, and a corporate event contractor to pull off a suspected multi-million dollar fraud.

Ms Rogers' overseas jaunt, which included multiple destinations and six other close family members, is the most egregious transaction being probed by NSW detectives, according to NAB sources.

Two NAB insiders have said that they both had concerns about a culture of largesse and extravagant spending that became normalised inside Mr Thorburn’s office and which allegedly centred around Ms Rogers and contractor, the Human Group.

The insiders described several offsite strategy meetings for NAB executives at luxury resorts in the Wolgan Valley, where guests arrived via helicopter, and on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. One NAB insider alleged that Ms Rogers kept a “slush fund” from which she gave staff benefits, including expensive gifts.

The police suspect that Ms Rogers and the Human Group devised a system in which they allegedly issued inflated invoices to the NAB to collect kickbacks and cover certain private expenses, including Ms Rogers' $500,000 overseas holiday.

BOM ADMITS TO USE OF CHAFF IN MILITARY EXERCISES NEAR SYDNEY

Sourced from QRes#6469 >>5065945, but Anon incorrectly mentioned that this was evidence of ackowledgement of chemtrials, which it isn't.

It looks like rain but it’s actually secret military exercises

What looked liked rain on an Aussie weather radar this week turned out to be masking something a lot more powerful.

If you checked the weather radars for Sydney yesterday you could have been forgiven for expecting a patch of heavy rain just north of the city. But if you poked your head out the window, it was nothing but blue skies.

What appeared to be an ominous storm cloud rolling across the weather radar was actually a military aircraft tactic used to hide activity and confuse the enemy.

Known as chaff, it’s a radar countermeasure in which aircraft or other military targets spread a cloud of small, thin pieces of aluminium, metallised glass fibre or plastic. The radar-jamming material either appears as a cluster of targets on radar screens or overwhelms the screen with hundreds of returns, or “false echoes”.

ABC weatherman Graham Creed explained the phenomena to listeners in Sydney yesterday evening, telling residents not to worry about the threat of any rainfall.

“If anyone out there’s been looking at the Sydney radar, what you can see those echoes moving towards the northern suburbs of Sydney, it’s not actually rainfall,” he said.

“It’s the Williamtown RAAF base and they’re putting what’s known as chaff in the atmosphere.”

The reported reason for deploying the chaff was to shield the activity of Australian fighter jets from any potential prying eyes during a training exercise.

“The idea of it is that it hides what they’re doing underneath it,” Mr Creed explained. “They’re doing manoeuvres with their aircraft. They drop this chaff and it spreads out and then it creates an echo so you can’t see individual movements.”

The air force base is just north of Newcastle but the chaff material began floating south across northern Sydney.

The radar countermeasure was developed independently by the German, the UK, US and Japanese militaries around the time of the World War II. Still to this day most military aircraft and warships have chaff dispensing systems for self-defence.

“It’s a pretty old technology now,” says Dr Jean Bou from the ANU strategic and defence studies centre.

“It’s basically a way to confuse radar. In its original guise … it was basically strips of aluminium foil and it was thrown out of aircraft in the second world war to confuse enemy radar,” he said.

“Radar reflects off it and gets a bounce. Instead of seeing individual dots and a whole bunch of aircraft on the radar it just sees this wall of radar reflection coming back, so it’s difficult to identify targets.”

A spokesperson from the Australian Department of Defence said chaff was used as part of a “routine fighter jet aircrew” training exercise.

“The use of chaff during training evolutions is a regular occurrence and is governed by strict safety procedures for both Australian Defence Force personnel and the public.”

The chaff that was released was made up of “aluminium fibres thinner than a human hair which are tightly wound together and then dispersed by the wind when released,” the spokesperson said.

While it’s designed to confuse the enemy, given the fact that chaff can appear red on weather radars (the same colour as dark, rain producing storm clouds), it can also temporarily confuse meteorologists.

That happened in December when large blips appeared on weather radar over the US states of Illinois and western Kentucky, which the National Weather Service described as “interesting” before the source was revealed to be a military operation.

Feds seize 1.7 tons of meth, other drugs at Long Beach port

Sourced from QRes#6480 >>5074603

LONG BEACH –

Six people have been arrested after federal agents seized more than 1.7 tons of drugs stashed inside audio speakers that were being shipped from Long Beach to Australia.

The shipment included 3,810 pounds of methamphetamine, along with 56 pounds of cocaine and 11.5 pounds of heroin, federal authorities said.

Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized three shipping containers containing the drugs on Jan. 11 at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport.

Six people have been arrested after federal agents seized more than 1.7 tons of drugs stashed inside audio speakers that were being shipped from Long Beach to Australia.

Following an investigation, federal authorities in Australia this week arrested two U.S. citizens and four Australian citizens.

Federal officials say the seizure dealt a significant blow to the drug trafficking organization behind the shipments.

"Along with our law enforcement partners here and around the world, we continue in a day-to-day battle against the blight of methamphetamine that continues to devastate our communities," said Joseph Macias, Special Agent-In-Charge for Homeland Security Investigations Los Angeles. "Through a collaborative effort – pooling our information, resources and expertise - we are keeping this dangerous contraband from reaching our streets and potentially saving lives."

Girl in shocking Netflix abduction documentary has stark message about child abuse

Her abduction and abuse is at the centre of a shocking new Netflix documentary. This is her message to viewers who missed the point.

The woman at the centre of the shocking Netflix documentary about her childhood abduction and abuse has a stark message for the viewers left reeling by her unbelievable story.

Jan Broberg was just 12 years old when she was molested, raped and twice abducted by a man in his 40s who befriended her parents through the Mormon church.

Social media has gone wild over the horrifying true story related in Abducted in Plain Sight, struggling to comprehend the “disturbing”, “infuriating” and “insane” account told by Jan, her friends and family and the FBI detectives who struggled to save her.

Robert “B” Berchtold took her to Mexico in a motorhome in 1974, convincing the young girl she was part-alien and that her “mission” was to have a child with him and assaulting her around 200 times in total.

But while many have loudly proclaimed their anger at the parents and community who failed to protect Jan from the paedophile, she insists she wants viewers to take away something else.

“I think what’s hard about that for me is it feels like they picked out the wrong thing from the documentary,” the 56-year-old, from Idaho, tells news.com.au.

“However, it’s got people talking, this film has done its job. What I wanted was for millions of conversations to be started that otherwise never would have happened, because it is in conversation that the truth can start to be revealed, that things can actually change.”

Jan is still a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints, but says she approaches the teachings with more scepticism, and would encourage everyone to do the same with every leader or institution in their lives.

“Why don’t we know more and why don’t we ask more questions and what is it that keeps us blind, from seeing what’s happening in our own home, neighbourhood, congregation, or community.” she asks. “And people don’t see it. That’s what I was angry about, why can’t we talk about this, why don’t people see it?”

With the help of counselling and her “wonderful family”, Jan went on to become an actress and regularly speak at conferences for educators and counsellors about her experience.

She even had to face Berchtold in court 30 years after the abuse, when he tracked her down to one event with a gun.

“All of a sudden it was like a complete moment of healing, of knowing who I am, of coming into my own power and knowing exactly why I was telling my story, and it was, as I said in the courtroom, to protect other children from monsters like you,” she says.

The abuser killed himself a year later.

Jan hopes her documentary will help to protect some of the other 800,000 children in America who are still abused every year, 40 years later.

Ex-Australian diplomat, 63, admits to messaging a 14-year-old boy for sex despite knowing he was underage

- Senior Australian diplomat admitted to using an app to find underage boys

- John Cornelius Finnin, 63, believed he was talking to a 14-year-old on Kik

- Mr Finnin was actually in contact with an undercover police officer for two weeks

A once-senior Australian diplomat has admitted to using a messaging app to find an underage boy for sex.

John Cornelius Finnin believed he was talking to a 14-year-old boy on Kik Messenger.

The 63-year-old was actually in contact with an undercover police officer for two weeks in September last year.

Finnin established that the 'boy' was underage within the first few days of the conversation, police claimed in court documents released in January.

'I understand you're nervous. So am I, as you are underage,' one message to the undercover officer said.

Finnin pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday to a single charge of using a carriage service to procure a child under 16 for sexual activity.

Four other charges, including using a carriage service to groom, were dropped.

A once senior trade official for the Australian government covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Finnin revealed at his last court appearance that he was now penniless and unemployed.

He is due to face the County Court in June.

Suspicion falls on China after cyber attack on Australian Parliament — and it's not surprising

Sourced from QRes#6495

It's not necessarily surprising — China has form at being blamed for cyber attacks against Australia and other nations.

But it's more than just form that sees China come under suspicion.

Beijing has an entire military unit tasked with carrying out these sorts of actions — the People's Liberation Army Unit 61398, a covert operation blamed in 2013 for stealing secrets from US companies.

So when Australia's Parliament is hacked — a pretty blatant act by any state or group — it's easy to point the finger at Beijing, even though Russia and North Korea are also "bad actors" known to have carried out cyber attacks throughout the world.

But analysts say it will take time to forensically identify exactly where the attack originated, even though it bears the hallmarks of a state-sponsored attack.

Mexican drug cartels are targeting Australia, say police after busting a record A$1.29 billion of meth in joint US-Australia investigation

Six people have been arrested after a massive 1.7 tonnes of methamphetamine, with a street value of A$1.29 billion (US$900 million), was seized in a joint investigation by Australian and United States authorities that exposed new ties between Mexican cartels and Aussie biker gangs.

The illicit cargo – the largest single seizure of methamphetamine in the US and the biggest haul of the drug bound for Australia – was hidden in shipping containers labelled as loudspeakers, said US authorities. It was seized in mid-January at the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex in California, along with smaller amounts of cocaine and heroin.

The meth haul would have provided around 17 million hits of the drug in Australia.

Australian authorities said the operation with the US Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Agency, Australian Federal Police and Victoria state police had stopped “a tsunami of ice” from reaching their shores.

Payback time for Australia’s corrupt banks

A year-long Royal Commission’s findings into widespread bank misconduct promises a huge shakeup of the sector.

Australia’s tainted financial sector faces its biggest shakeup in a decade after damning findings of a year-long Royal Commission inquiry were handed down on Monday. To what extent the commission’s wide-ranging proposals are to be implemented will likely be a key campaign issue as the country gears up for elections later this year.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the government will take action on all 76 recommendations of the commission into misconduct in the industry, which heard that banks levied fees on dead customers, sold packages they knew were worthless and charged clients for services that were not rendered.

Majority of Australians concerned about Agenda-Driven News

Sourced from QRes#6530

Three out of four Australians are worried about the local news industry becoming too much like the US media, with research from the BBC showing the majority of people believe the government and commercial owners of broadcasters and newspapers are setting the editorial agenda.

BBC Global News editorial director Jamie Angus, who visited Sydney to discuss the results of a survey of 1000 Australians, said 74 per cent of locals thought there had been an increase in agenda-driven news in the past five years and more than half were concerned this could lead to a loss of credible journalism.

The research further found that 68 per cent of Australians believed some news organisations had agendas driven by governments or their commercial owners that was leading to biased coverage.

“In many ways America is still the beacon on the hill [for democracy and media], yet it has an utterly dysfunctional media market because it has this effect of polarisation where increasingly large proportions of US audiences are only consuming … news that reinforces their pre-existing political beliefs,” he said.

Australia signs $50bn submarine contract with France, ends 2-year squabble

Sourced from QRes#6541

Australia signed a production contract with French shipbuilder Naval Group on Monday for a fleet of 12 new submarines, worth AU$50 billion (US$35.5 billion). The move ends a two-year wrangle that cast doubt over one of the world’s most lucrative defense deals. Australia selected the French builder as its preferred bidder for the fleet of submarines in 2016 ahead of other offers from Japan and Germany. Final contracts, however, were delayed amid domestic media reports of cost blowouts and production delays. Australia and Naval Group signed a Strategic Partnering Agreement, the overall contract to guide the construction, to end the impasse. The 12 new submarines are at the center of Australia’s plan to significantly expand its military to protect strategic and trade interests in the Asia-Pacific region, Reuters said.

Australia called to act against Chinese detention of Uighurs

Sourced from QRes#6544

Melbourne, Australia - Members of the Uighur Muslim community in Australia are renewing calls for action from the government amid reports that a number of Australian permanent residents are effectively trapped in China's Xinjiang province.

The Guardian reported on Monday that at least 17 Australian residents are being held under house arrest, in prison or detained in so-called "re-education" centres in the far western region of Xinjiang, also referred to by some Uighurs as East Turkistan.

They are thought to have been detained while on trips to visit relatives in China and some have family members who are Australian citizens.

"As soon as they arrive, their passport is taken away because they're holding a Chinese passport, even though they have permanent residency," Nurgul Sawut, the Uighur-Australian activist who provided The Guardian with the details of the 17 affected, told Al Jazeera.

"We're not only talking about the 17 people back in Xinjiang. We're talking about their direct family members here in Australia. There are 17 families whose lives are destroyed. They can't continue with their work. Their mental health is deteriorating," she said.

"This is not a surprise for us. Our community told us that their family members have been in trouble in East Turkistan since 2017," said Nurmuhammad Majid, president of the East Turkistan Australian Association (ETAA).

"The number is over 20 according to my calculations, including some minor children as well. We are gravely concerned for their safety and well-being."

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), however, said it was "not aware of any Australian citizens currently detained in Xinjiang".

"We are aware of a number of cases where family and friends in Australia are unable to contact individuals who have travelled to Xinjiang," a spokesperson for DFAT said in a statement obtained by Al Jazeera.

"In some cases, those individuals have Australian connections such as permanent residency or a spouse visa. Where Australian family members request us to do so, we have been making inquiries with the Chinese authorities regarding the whereabouts of these individuals," the spokesperson said.

There are an estimated 600 Uighur families residing in Australia, with a combined population of around 3000. "Some Uighurs spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to get permanent residency," ETAA's Majid said.

"They have rights to live indefinitely in Australia according to the visa conditions. A majority of them have established homes, work and businesses in Australia."

Anons post on Kevin Clinesmith - who was one of the 4 Q asked us to track and follow

Sourced from QRes#6577

>>5149110

Who did Kevin Clinesmith interview?

George PapaD.

Meanwhile, it was Papadopoulos' May 10 alleged " drunken barroom admission” to former Australian diplomat Alexander Downer that the Russians had information which “could be damaging” to Hillary Clinton. Papadopoulos was originally told of the alleged Russian plot two weeks earlier on April 26, by Maltese professor Joseph Mifsud (missing since October 2017) - whose organization George Papadopoulos met his wife through.

Papadopoulos was then approached by FBI informant spy Stefan Halper in the fall of 2016, who lured him to London and paid him $3,000 for his work on an energy policy paper.

And then Kevin Clinesmith interviewed him…

Clinesmith, referred to in a DOJ Inspector General's report as “FBI Attorney 2” and “doxxed” by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) last week, texted several colleagues lamenting the “destruction of the Republic” after former FBI Director James Comey reopened the Clinton email investigation, and said he was “numb” after Donald Trump won the 2016 US election.

In response to a colleague asking he had changed his views on Trump, Clinesmith responded " Hell no. Viva le resistance” (sic) a reference to the Trump opposition movement that clamed to be coordinating with officials inside the Trump administration.

“I am so stressed about what I could have done differently,” reads another text believed to be about the Clinton email investigation - internally known as the “Midyear Review” or “MYE.”

They were only concerned about knowing if PapaD knew Kushner was feeding the FBI info.

Australia to reopen notorious migrant detention center after govt. fails to block medevac bill

The Australian government will be reopening the Christmas Island detention center, likened to a maximum security prison, after opposition streamlined a bill to allow migrant detainees to seek medical help on the mainland.

Australia's conservative Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Tuesday that the detention facility in the Australian external territory in the Indian Ocean his government worked hard to shut down would be reopened to accommodate potential new arrivals and detainees, who might be transferred from the Nauru and Manus Island offshore migrant detention camps.

The setback in the conservative government's effort to scale down the controversial migrant detention program is a response to a new amendment to a medical evacuations bill, championed by the Labor party, which enlisted the support of the Greens and crossbench MPs.

Linking to this post only, as it seems pretty inflammatory content.

Hard to know whos at fault anymore, with the likes of Chinese actively quelling any outspokenness within this country that tells the truth about how they wish to take us over, then the actions of Huwai, and private Chinese airfields being built in WA in cahoots with Labour Government.

So kinda hard to believe that the Chinese didnt have any hand in the recent hacking that went on at Parliament house.

James Packer involved with Chinese movie company Chinese Media Capital

Sourced from QRes#6602

Warner Bros. and Ratpac are doubling down on Chinese-language film production, Brett Ratner told THR in Beijing.

Warner Bros. and RatPac Entertainment are poised to deepen their investments in China with the launch of a new film fund, which they will use to finance Chinese-language movies and other content for the country's booming theatrical market.

"Ratpac, Warner Bros, [China Media Capital] and Shanghai Media Group will do a local Chinese fund to invest in Chinese movies, television and live entertainment," director turned movie mogul Brett Ratner told The Hollywood Reporter during an interview at the Beijing International Film Festival, where the filmmaker served as jury chair.

"The exciting thing is that China will be the No. 1 movie market in the world soon," he added. "We would like to be a big part of that."

RatPac, a partnership between Ratner and Australian billionaire James Packer, has a standing deal with Warner Bros. to co-finance almost every film in the studio's slate — as well as an existing investment in China.

In 2013, Ratpac and Warners Bros.' parent company, Time Warner, became co-investors in a Chinese media fund set up by China Media Capital (CMC), the state-backed investment group headed by Li Ruigang, the influential former head of Shanghai Media Group. Occasionally likened to "China's Rupert Murdoch," Li has secured CMC's majority stake in Oriental DreamWorks and minority investment in Imax China. Warners and Ratpac were joined in the earlier fund by advertising agency WPP, Japanese telecom giant SoftBank and others. That fund has focused on investment opportunities across the Chinese media sector.

The new fund, according to Ratner, will focus exclusively on Chinese-language content for the booming Chinese entertainment markets.

"Li Ruigang at CMC has been an incredible partner, so I went to him and I said, 'We want to invest in Chinese local entertainment, but I don't know how to do it. We want you to be our partner on this new venture,'" Ratner explained. "Together, we're identifying Chinese projects we can put through that fund, and separately Ratpac is also going to be doing co-productions — big Hollywood-style movies that have Chinese cultural stories."

Over the past year, Chinese film studios have poured capital into Hollywood film slates. Beijing-based Perfect World Pictures is raising $500 million to invest in Universal's slate, and Bona Film Group put $235 million into 20th Century Fox's forthcoming tentpoles.

But as the market has swelled, and local Chinese films have become more competitive against Hollywood imports — in the first quarter of 2016, Chinese titles took nearly 70 percent of local box office — U.S. filmmakers and financiers are beginning to seek ways to make more local-language movies for the Chinese audience. Meanwhile, Chinese regulators maintain a strict quota on foreign-film imports, limiting the market access of U.S. studios.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the sibling director duo behind Marvel's Captain America franchise, recently set up a Chinese fund to produce Chinese pictures. Ratpac and Warner Bros. are set to do the same.

"I did [2014's] Hercules and it came out here and it didn't do too well," Ratner said in Beijing. "I just realized that the Chinese want their own film culture and business. Hollywood wants to get their movies into the market. Maybe next year they'll be able to get more films in, but still, at the end of the day, what do the Chinese want? They want their own movies." (Hercules, which Ratner directed, grossed $13.1 million in China.)

Warner Bros.' participation in the new fund will mark an escalation of the studio's already ambitious efforts to produce localized content for China. Last year, Warners launched Flagship Entertainment, a joint venture headed by studio veteran Richard Fox but majority controlled by Li's CMC. In March, the upstart studio announced a diverse slate of 12 films to be made in China. Flagship plans to release its first Chinese film later this year.

In addition to the titles that emerge from the new fund, Ratner currently is producing a romance picture for Flagship called Beautiful Coma, which was developed and translated from an American script that Ratpac owned. The film will be directed by Hong Kong's Peter Chan.

"We're exploring many different hybrids and ways into the market," said Ratner. "Separately, Ratpac has taken a well known Warner Bros.' IP and reimagined it as a Chinese co-production franchise, which can be filmed in China."

Setting the Stage for Pike's Third World War?

Sourced from QRes#6618

All wars are orchestrated.

Are we witnessing preparations for the next one?

Albert Pike (1809-1891) was the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite's Southern Jurisdiction for almost 50 years.

In a letter to fellow Satanist Giuseppe Mazzini, dated August 15, 1871, he predicted there will be three world wars contrived to bring about Masonic Jewish banker world government.

"The Third World War must be fomented by taking advantage of the differences caused by the "agentur" (agents) of the "Illuminati" between the political Zionists and the leaders of Islamic World. The war must be conducted in such a way that Islam (the Moslem Arabic World) and political Zionism (the State of Israel) mutually destroy each other."

The two sides in this conflagration are taking their places on stage. Clearly, Iran and its allies Russia and China represent the Islamic world. The US, Israel and their allies are the "political Zionists."

At a conference on Iran in Warsaw Wednesday, Netanyahu tweeted that he is seeking "war with Iran."

Vice President Mike Pence accused Iran of plotting "a new holocaust" designed to wipe Israel from the map. He urged

EU to boycott Iran. Netanyahu tweeted Thursday that the US-Israel friendship is at "an all-time high."

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters that "Iran's proxies" in Yemen, Lebanon, Iran and Syria pose "the biggest threats in the Middle East." The US is in talks to send more troops to Poland.

It's unclear as yet, which side the EU will be on. Venezuela might be a good indicator. Supporters of Guaido tend to be in the Zionist camp. This would include Canada, Australia and the EU. On the other hand, the EU is resting US pressure to boycott Iran.

Hundreds of vets are suing over these defective combat earplugs

Hundreds of veterans are filing lawsuits against a government contractor that manufactured and sold defective combat earplugs to the military.

The earplugs didn’t maintain a tight seal and allowed dangerously loud sounds to slip through without the wearer knowing.

The lawsuits allege that Minnesota-based 3M Company designed the earplugs in a defective manner and failed to warn users of the defect or to provide proper instructions for their use, according to a copy of one lawsuit provided to Military Times.

The failure allegedly resulted in hearing loss, tinnitus and loss of balance in those who used 3M’s trademarked, dual-ended Combat Arms earplugs during their military service between 2003 and 2015.

The lawsuits were filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas — Waco Division.

One hundred lawsuits were filed by two Houston-based law firms: Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Aziz and Bell, Rose & Cobos.

“Due to the widespread damage caused to veterans by 3M’s actions, these cases are just the tip of the iceberg of lawsuits that will be filed in order to hold 3M accountable,” Mo Aziz, one of the attorneys involved, said in a statement.

3M previously agreed to pay $9.1 million to resolve allegations that it knowingly sold its earplugs to the Defense Logistics Agency without disclosing defects that decreased the hearing protection, according to the Justice Department.

The allegations by the U.S. government were brought against 3M through the enforcement of the False Claims Act.

Although that case has been resolved, all claims within the settlement were allegations only, and there was no determination of liability, the Justice Department said.

That hasn’t stopped veterans from lining up to seek punitive damages from 3M after developing hearing issues from 3M’s “gross negligence,” according to the lawsuit copy.

“Since late 2003, 3M touted its Combat Arms earplugs as capable of allowing users to hear commands from friendly soldiers and approaching enemy combatants, unimpaired, in the same way as if they had nothing in their ears," the lawsuit reads.

The documents allege that 3M employees knew about the earplug defects as early as 2000.

Although testing conducted by 3M found that the earplugs were defective, the company falsified certification stating that the testing complied with military standards, according to the lawsuit.

“It is an absolute disgrace that 3M would purposefully provide defective equipment to U.S. service members, knowing that those service members would rely on that defective equipment in combat," Andrew Cobos, another attorney named in the lawsuit, said. “Their fraud resulted in lifelong injuries to America’s warriors. 3M’s actions cannot, and should not, be tolerated.”

In 2006, the U.S. government entered into a contract with 3M, in which the company supplied an estimated annual quantity of 15,000 earplug packages, with 50 pairs per package, at a guaranteed price of at least $9 million in sales for the year, the lawsuit states.

The earplugs were sold to the military until 2015, when 3M discontinued the product. However, the defective pairs were not recalled and thus are still likely used by soldiers and sold by other vendors, according to the lawsuit.

Wonder if any of our combat vets have similar hearing issues as a result of 3M?

Personally not sure about Hillsong (whether they good or evil), but open to hearing others thoughts/experiences about them.

But when the worst someone can drag up about Hillsong is that they sing that evolution is a real thing … and this is a controversy apparently?

https://www.electionforum.org/church/hillsong-controversy-explodes-4-things-you-should-know-video-song/

Whats so wrong about thinking that its possible that a Creator set the wheels in motion (big bang) and formed the planets and galaxies etc .. and then evolution (over time) took its course?

Funny how some of the most close minded people I have met are those indoctrinated by the church - apparently fossil records are faked I was told in no uncertain terms.

Not disputing there is a Creator, for I too have felt his hand at work since Q arrived on the scene and I started praying for Patriots to be aided and protected, more that the Bible has been corrupted and used as a mechanism of controlling the masses.

Interested in hearing others thoughts, so long as its constructive criticism not just abuse.

Interesting POV from Anon re Malcolm Turnbull

Sourced from QRes#6647

Former Australian PM Malcolm Bligh Turnbull shares the same middle name of many Australian descendants that supported the 4th Governor of NSW William Bligh in the early 1800’s! Yes the same ‘Captain’ Bligh overthrown by Mutineers on the good ship Bounty.

When Governor Bligh was overthrown AGAIN in the Rum Rebellion for his aggressive centralist policies against free trade, certain families supported his policies and have named their children after him for 200 years!!

The bloodlines and family links to centralism/socialism run deep

I think that Malcolm needs to update his website - he still thinks he's PM ?

American spy boss warns China could already be trying to interfere in the Australian federal election

Sourced from QRes#6648

-China could meddle in Australia's upcoming Federal election, spy boss says

-Admiral Mike Rogers says China may seek to interfere in the democratic process

-Fears come after Chinese and Australian relations had a roller-coaster year

America's former spy boss has warned of possible off-shore interference in Australia's upcoming federal election.

Admiral Mike Rogers, who was head of the National Security Agency up until last year, says China may be seeking to meddle in Australia's democratic process.

After US President Donald Trump recently accused China of seeking to interfere in their mid-term elections, Mr Rogers says Australia may now also be at risk.

Mr Rogers, who was a key player in the Russia scandal during the 2016 US presidential election, told The Australian he would tell every democracy out there to be mindful.

'Thirty years ago no nation needed to worry about the idea of using cyber, social media and other tools to attempt to manipulate or influence (democratic) outcomes, but the digital age and social media have taken this to a new level, whether there is more means by nation states and individual actors to manipulate or influence.'

Chinese and Australian relations had a rollercoaster year in 2018 with the Government passing controversial legislation limiting the influence of overseas players in Australian affairs, ABC reported.

In August the ABC’s website was blocked from Chinese servers after the Australian Government announced rules that stopped two Chinese Telecommunications companies from participating in the 5G infrastructure network rollout.

This came after leaks over China's attempts to interfere with federal politicians, but the Government said the laws were not aimed at Beijing.

Mr Rogers warnings come as Australian prepare to head to the polls in May.

Unlike a Google search, Memex can search not only for text but also for images and latitude/longitude coordinates encoded in photos. It can decipher numbers that are part of an image, including handwritten numbers in a photo, a technique traffickers often use to mask their contact information. It also recognizes photo backgrounds independently of their subjects, so it can identify pictures of different women that share the same backdrop, such as a hotel room—a telltale sign of sex trafficking, experts say.

Also unlike Google, it can look into, and spot relationships among, not only run-of-the-mill Web pages but online databases such as those offered by government agencies and within online forums (the so-called deep Web) and networks like Tor, whose server addresses are obscured (the so-called dark Web).

Since its release a year ago, Memex has had notable successes in sex-trafficking investigations. New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance said Memex has generated leads in 20 investigations and has been used in eight trials prosecuted by the county’s sex-trafficking division. In a case last June, Mr. Vance said, Memex’s ability to search the posting times of ads that had been taken down helped in a case that resulted in the sentencing of a trafficker to 50 years to life in prison.

Cameron, who directed and starred in a New Zealand tourism video in 2016, owns a 3,700-square-foot organic farm in Wairarapa, two hours east of the capital city of Wellington. Thiel, who is reportedly a newly minted Kiwi citizen, has built a stunning glass box of a house (with a tree growing out of its center) in the Bay of Islands perched above the Pacific Ocean,

Australian startup Fleet prepares Series A to fund next 10 satellites

Sourced from QRes#6671

WASHINGTON — Fleet Space Technologies will begin raising money next week from investors in a Series A financing round after service launch immediately filled its four cubesats with customers.

The Internet of Things (IoT) startup based in Adelaide, Australia, logged 1 million devices in 24 hours, with customer applications ranging from monitoring beehives to oil pipelines, all from space. Another 2 million devices are waiting in backlog, the company said in a news release.

In an interview, Flavia Tata Nardini, Fleet co-founder and CEO, said the company would launch 10 more satellites “tomorrow” if it could. But first it must raise the money to fund construction and launch of the satellites, which it hopes to have in orbit by early 2020.

“Three million connections booked in a few days; it tells that people are really ready to connect,” she said. “And if we don’t connect them, someone else will. So we better serve our customers really fast.”

Fleet has raised $3.8 million in seed money since forming in 2015, and used that to place the first four of an envisioned 100 satellites in orbit in November and December. Two launched on a Rocket Lab Electron rocket, one launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 and the other on an Indian PSLV.

Cubesat builder Pumpkin Space Systems of San Francisco built Fleet’s satellites around software-defined radios Fleet builds in house.

Tata Nardini said Fleet will need to raise “way more” than its seed total, but didn’t give an exact amount.

Fleet’s IoT service connects customers for $2 per device per year. The company links devices using low power wide area networks, aggregating signals from numerous devices and relaying them through a single terminal on the ground.

Tata Nardini said Fleet is part of the LoRa Alliance, a group with more than 500 members that uses a shared open protocol to connect some 50 million devices. Fleet is not limited to the LoRa protocol, she said, and has talked with French IoT company Sigfox as well. Sigfox has its own standard, and teamed up Eutelsat last year to build a cubesat optimized for IoT.

Tata Nardini said it is difficult to predict how much of the IoT market — much of which uses and will use cellular networks — presents an opportunity for satellite communications, but expects the amount to be “astronomical.” She said, as an example of the potential, that just one of Fleet’s customers projects having 8 million sensors to connect in the coming years.

“The number is huge when you start connecting massive IoT,” she said. “I guess we will figure it out.”

In "Serious Blow" To US, Britain Concludes Huawei Is "Manageable Risk" To 5G Rollout

Sourced from QRes#6676 as Aus rates a mention too

Following intense pressure from the US on its European allies to boycott the use of Huawei products in the rollout of next-generation 5G products and shut out the Chinese telecom giant from local markets, Germany was the first nation to rebuke Washington, with Handeslblatt reporting last week that the German government wanted to avoid excluding products offered by Huawei.

Now it's the UK's turn.

In the latest "serious blow" to US efforts to persuade allies to ban the Chinese supplier from high-speed telecommunications systems, the FT reported that the British government has concluded that it can "mitigate the risk from using Huawei equipment in 5G networks."

According to the report, the UK National Cyber Security Centre has determined that "there are ways to limit the risks from using Huawei in future 5G ultra-fast networks" and in doing so it is ignoring escalating US efforts to persuade countries to bar Huawei from their networks on the basis that it could help China conduct espionage or cyber sabotage.

The NSA has been sharing more information with allies and partners to underscore the risks, but as reported previously, several European countries, including the UK and Germany, have not been convinced that a ban is warranted.

The unprecedented rebuke of the US official stance would “carry great weight” with European leaders, not only because the UK has access to very sensitive US intelligence via its membership in the Five Eyes intelligence sharing network, but because it is a clear refusal to comply with implied but stern diplomatic demands by the US placed on European nations to further isolate China from its main export market.

"Other nations can make the argument that if the British are confident of mitigation against national security threats then they can also reassure their publics and the US administration that they are acting in a prudent manner in continuing to allow their telecommunications service providers to use Chinese components as long as they take the kinds of precautions recommended by the British,” the person said.

The US argues that 5G will be so fast — and have so many military applications — that the risk of using any Chinese telecoms equipment is too high. American officials have also made the case that, although there may be no evidence of nefarious activity so far, Huawei could use malign software updates to facilitate espionage

Further diluting state US demands, Robert Hannigan, former head of GCHQ, the UK signals intelligence agency, recently wrote in the FT that NCSC had “never found evidence of malicious Chinese state cyber activity through Huawei” and that any “assertions that any Chinese technology in any part of a 5G network represents an unacceptable risk are nonsense”.

The UK's determination is also perplexing in that it stands in contrast to Australia and New Zealand — also Five Eyes members — which last year banned local telecoms providers from using Huawei equipment in 5G networks.

Most importantly, it comes as Donald Trump is said to be considering issuing an executive order that would effectively bar US firms from using Huawei.

Underscoring the US position, US vice-president Mike Pence said on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference that Huawei posed a threat because of a law that requires telecom companies to share data with the Chinese government. At the same forum, Jens Stoltenberg, Nato secretary-general, told the FT that the alliance was taking concerns over Huawei “very seriously” and that several allies wanted a co-ordinated response.

“We have to look into the level of co-ordination we need to respond. We have not yet concluded as an alliance, but it shows the need to address that issue,” he said.

Australia's major political parties targeted by 'sophisticated state actor', PM says

Scott Morrison says Liberals, Labor and Nationals affected by ‘malicious’ cyber activity

Australia’s major political parties have been targeted by a “sophisticated state actor”, according to Scott Morrison, as part of a breach of the Parliament House computer network.

The head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre, Alistair MacGibbon, says agencies were unsure what material had been taken in the incident because the rapid remediation efforts had removed some of the forensic evidence.

The prime minister confirmed the state-sponsored intrusion in a statement to parliament on Monday, but said there was no evidence of electoral interference and measures had been put in place to “ensure the integrity of our electoral system”.

Morrison said he had instructed the Australian cyber security centre “to be ready to provide any political party or electoral body in Australia with immediate support, including making their technical experts available”.

He said the federal and state electoral commissions and cybersecurity agencies in the states had been briefed and the cybersecurity centre in Canberra had also worked with global anti-virus companies “so the world can detect this malicious activity”.

MacGibbon told reporters he was not able to answer whether data had been taken because agencies were “acting extraordinarily quickly and very openly, so we are piecing together all of the events”.

“These are very early days, and the decision was made, the right decision was made, to go public and to take overt actions to secure these systems in order to risk manage the exercise,” he said.

Responding to the statement, the Labor leader, Bill Shorten, told parliament that government institutions, such as electoral commissions, were generally well protected, “but our party political structures perhaps are more vulnerable”.

He noted that in comparable attacks overseas “it is progressive parties that are more likely to be targeted by ultra-rightwing organisations”.

Shorten said political parties were small organisations with only a few full-time staff, but they were in the business of collecting, storing and using “large amounts of information about voters and communities”.

Australia says foreign government behind cyber attack on lawmakers

SYDNEY (Reuters) - A cyber attack on Australian lawmakers that breached the networks of major political parties was probably carried out by a foreign country, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Monday, without naming any suspects.

As Australia heads for an election due by May, lawmakers were told this month told to urgently change their passwords after the cyber intelligence agency detected an attack on the national parliament’s computer network.

The hackers breached the networks of Australia’s major political parties, Morrison said, as he issued an initial assessment by investigators.

“Our cyber experts believe that a sophisticated state actor is responsible for this malicious activity,” he told parliament.

“We also became aware that the networks of some political parties, Liberal, Labor and Nationals have also been affected.”

Morrison did not reveal what information was accessed, but he said there was no evidence of election interference.

Australians will return to the polls by May.

Morrison did not name any suspects, but analysts have said China, Russia and Iran were the most likely culprits.

“When you consider motivation, you would have to say that China is the leading suspect, while you wouldn’t rule out Russia either,” said Fergus Hanson, head of the International Cyber Policy Centre at think-tank the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

“It is the honey-pot of juicy political gossip that has been hoovered up. Emails showing everything from the dirty laundry of internal fights through to who supported a policy could be on display.”

Ties with China have deteriorated since 2017, after Canberra accused Beijing of meddling in its domestic affairs. Both countries have since sought to mend relations, but Australia remains wary of China.

Tension rose this month after Australia rescinded the visa of a prominent Chinese businessman, just months after barring Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies from supplying equipment to its 5G broadband network.

Officers of Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency covertly monitored computers of U.S. Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and campaign committees, and stole large amounts of data, U.S. investigators have concluded.

Foreign Criminals in Australia being handed their visas back

Sourced from QRes#6694

Hundreds of foreigners who had their visas cancelled after committing serious crimes are being spared deportation by national security officials, with the government facing questions over how a drug trafficker was allowed to remain in Australia despite spending nearly a decade in prison and offshore detention.

Amid a heated political clash between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten over border integrity, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age can reveal criminals are using an opaque process to have their mandatory visa cancellations overturned by Department of Home Affairs officials, the minister or assistant minister.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton last week cited the need to secure Australia's borders from criminals as a reason for the government's opposition to the refugee medical treatment bill that passed Parliament.

In one case expected to be raised in Parliament this week, William Sualauvi Betham was granted freedom and is now enjoying life on the Gold Coast despite being jailed for more than 10 years in 2008 over his role in a drug trafficking syndicate.

Betham's visa was cancelled by the government in June 2016 but his appeal was still under way at the time of his release on parole in October that year. He was transferred to the Christmas Island immigration detention centre ahead of potential deportation to his home state of New Zealand.

But Betham was later handed back his visa and released in 2017 after arguing to bureaucrats that he had a low risk of reoffending, had undergone rehabilitation and had a child in Australia whose mother was unable to provide appropriate care.

However, a man who claims to have been a fellow detainee of Betham on Christmas Island has alleged Betham bragged to him about having connections enabling him to secure the return of his visa.

The man, who remains in detention while fighting his own visa cancellation in the courts, told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age that Betham asked him about his own case and said there was "no point wasting money on lawyers".

He [Betham] said, 'if you want to get out, get back to your family, organise $80,000 and transfer it into an account, I have a good connection … and you will be out in a matter of months'," the man alleged.

Betham's lawyer Jennifer Samuta said she was not aware of any information that her client had made that claim to fellow detainees.

"We are not aware of Mr Betham bribing any official that may be in a position to make or impact a visa-related decision in his favour," she said.

Ex-Aussie envoy: Failure to extradite accused pedophile hurts Israel ties

Dave Sharma, formerly Australian ambassador to Israel, told the 'Post' a failure to extradite Malka Leifer "would alienate people who naturally defend and are supportive of Israel."

Israel’s failure to extradite to Australia accused pedophile Malka Leifer would hurt Israel’s image among the Australian public and “make it hard” for the Australian government to be as stalwart a friend of Israel as it is, former Australian ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma said on Monday.

Sharma, in an interview from Sydney with The Jerusalem Post, said that a failure to extradite Leifer is something “that would alienate people who naturally defend and are supportive of Israel. This is not about the Palestinian issue or the peace process, but something that people see as a case of justice.”

Sharma’s comments came the same day the Jerusalem District Court ruled that Leifer must remain in jail until the end of her legal proceedings, and that another psychiatric assessment on her needs to be conducted. Deputy Health Minister MK Yaakov Litzman was questioned last week on suspicion of obstructing justice by working to obtain a false psychiatric medical evaluation to prevent her extraction on the ground that she is mentally unfit.

Future Shock: Over 2030 Dead in Australia Following ‘Robo-Debt’ Notices

Sourced from QRes#6705

An estimated 2030 Australians on some form of income support in the nation have died after the government branch tasked with guaranteeing their payments sent threatening and often factually incorrect letters warning of cancellation.

At least 2030 recipients of Centrelink's basic human services in Australia died over a two-year period following the initiation of a ‘robo-debt' machine-automation program to address discrepancies in income support payment data.

According to reports, after Canberra placed much of its human services branch into the digital realm, hundreds of thousands of resource recipients — particularly those considered to be psychologically ‘at-risk' — mistakenly received letters between July 2016 and October 2018 demanding new proofs for payment eligibility, resulting in the deaths of over 2030 people, cited by abc.net.au.

Canberra's Centrelink program supplies income support and many other services including healthcare to pensioners, indigenous Australians, military veterans, students and families with small children, among many other social groups. An estimated 5.1 million people were noted to depend upon one or another of the services, according to the most recent data.

The machine-generated letters threaten discontinuance of payment, a life-event profound enough to see many recipients become at-risk for suicide, according to medical and government observers.

The Social Economy

Sourced from QRes#6725, and focusses on Canada, but just as relevant as for Australia.

There has been a common thread in in the global communist movement since 1997 and it is a system that people have heard very little to nothing about. Its name “The Social Economy”; an elaborate government funded sector that produces very little in profits but consumes billions in tax dollars. Through government tax incentives, tax credits and grants, charities, foundations, non-profits, and Non-governmental organization (NGOs) have been siphoning off tax payer’s money to fund this “Social Economy”. An elaborate money-laundering scheme designed by Corporations and their foundations to offset profit margins by re-investing in their foundations while at the same time lobbying and pushing for governmental policy changes in favour of this “Social Economy.” What the Tides Foundation, a George Soros funded organization refers to as “The Hybrid Universe” as shown in Figure #1. Hybrid Universe is defined as Foundations and Businesses bending Governments to their will. The social economy is at the very heart of global mass migration. In simplest terms, Canadians are funding their own invasion.

The World Health Organization is Taking Cash Handouts from Junk Food Giants

Published 6 years ago on October 23, 2012

Sourced from QRes#6728

More proof of the WHO’s “elite bias” has been recently uncovered by a study: The organization has been taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from the world’s biggest pushers of unhealthy foods such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Unilever. It is relying on these companies for advice on how to fight obesity..é which is the equivalent of asking a drug dealer for advice on how stay off drugs and NOT buy his product.

Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Unilever are not simply “food companies, they are gigantic conglomerates that produce and distribute an enormous proportion of processed foods across the world. In the article entitled Irrational Consumerism (or The Few Companies Who Feed the World), I described how only a few mega-conglomerates own most of the world’s brands of processed foods. To refresh your memory here are some of the brands owned by Nestlé:

WHO is increasingly relying on ‘partnerships’ with the industry, instead of maintaining neutrality like it always has done, to fill holes in its budget. However, it still refuses to partner with the tobacco industry.

Since 2010 WHO has cut its own funding for chronic disease programs by 20 per cent. These diseases cause 63 per cent of premature deaths worldwide, but the WHO department in charge of fighting them receives just six percent of the UN’s budget.

Boyd Swinburn, an Australian professor and longtime member of WHO’s nutrition advisory committees, said: ‘WHO is getting hijacked. They’re cash-strapped, and they’re bringing the private sector in. That’s very dangerous.’

However, Jorge Casimiro, Coca-Cola’s director of international government relations and public affairs, said: ‘It’s about the convergence of the interests. What we’re trying to say is we’re ready to take action. We’re companies who want to do this. We’re ready to go.’

Fraser Murrell delves into the history of the Gold Standard and how a modern day version could be put in place.

Author: Dr Fraser Murrell, Melbourne Australia

First Posted: Thursday , 20 Nov 2014

Returning to a Gold Standard – Why and How

In the 1600s, Sir Isaac Newton presided over a (bi-metal) Gold and Silver Standard, with the flaw being the fix of silver to gold. In the 1900s, John Maynard Keynes “revolutionized” economics, with the result being certain economic collapse. In both cases there was a logical error in the key definition of “price”, which is critical to the stability of the economy. This note examines the problem and then goes on to present a workable Gold Standard, which it is argued, is the most stable frame of reference for our economy.

FRAMES OF REFERENCE

Life would be chaotic if “time and space” changed regularly or even our definition of it changed regularly. Fortunately, Newton sorted it all out back in the 1600s, developed the Laws of Motion, allowing mankind to proceed with certainty. However, if some Government “expert” later decided that time ran backwards on alternate days and space was shaped like a banana, then chaos would return.

In economics, the central concepts are “time and price” and again Newton considered this problem and deemed that “price” should be defined with reference to weights of gold and silver (more on this later). Once again the real world proved him (almost) correct and as a result there was economic certainty and “Britain Ruled the Waves”. But then along came economic “experts” like Keynes who changed all the critical definitions and as a result we have been plunged back into chaos.

To understand Keynes’ distortion of our economic frame of reference, consider the following example. A man walks into a bank in 1971 with savings of $1,000 (cash) and $1,000 (gold) and today in 2014 he retires and withdraws both. Ignoring for the moment interest and fees, under an (ideal) Newtonian frame of reference there would be price stability, so that the value of each withdrawal will have the same purchasing power as that deposited – in other words “price” is independent of “time”. BUT under Keynes’ new definition of “price and time” the results are that the $1,000 (cash) remains $1,000 (cash) but can now only buy $25 worth of 1971 goods and the $1,000 (gold) is now deemed to be worth $40,000 (cash) even though it can still only buy $1,000 worth of 1971 goods.

The first point is that Keynes has introduced inflation into the concept of “time” and secondly he has introduced volatility into the definition of “price”, because (as it turns out) a man who saved all his money in cash would have been robbed by a factor of 97.5% (in real world terms) and a man who saved all his money in gold would have retained his original purchasing power, but would have been deemed to have invested $1,000 (cash) and received $40,000 (cash) and therefore have made a taxable “capital gain”, thus losing (approximately) half to the Government.

The economic consequences are that anyone who saves in cash is penalized (it is better to go into debt) and anyone who invests in assets that only match inflation loses half in taxation and only a man who actively takes risks and is lucky enough to beat double the rate of inflation can break even. This economy therefore rewards debt funded price speculation over saving and wealth creation, resulting in a negative feedback loop that creates an ever weaker economy.

Whether by design or not, Keynesians and Governments have scrambled together the definitions of time, price, wealth, tax, inflation, volatility and many other things. Furthermore, by constantly changing these definitions, they have created chaos and an unstable system that (I think) must eventually collapse. Someone needs to sit down and unravel all these definitions and restore economic order. As a mathematician rather than an economist, I want to focus on the key definitions of “ time and price” and let others do the rest.

Third version of Russian Dossier?

Sourced from QRes#6742

Here's his story about that from 7/10/2018

By John Solomon (Opinion Contributor)

Like dandelions in an untreated lawn, the now infamous Russian dossier apparently multiplied in numbers — and emissaries delivering it to the FBI — the closer Donald Trump got to the White House.

We know from public testimony that dossier author and former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele shared his findings with the FBI in summer and fall 2016 before he was terminated as a confidential source for inappropriate media contacts.

And we learned that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) provided a copy to the FBI after the November 2016 election — out of a sense of duty, his office says.

Now, memos the FBI is turning over to Congress show the bureau possessed at least three versions of the dossier and its mostly unverified allegations of collusion.

Each arrived from a different messenger: McCain, Mother Jones reporter David Corn, Fusion GPS founder (and Steele boss) Glenn Simpson.

That revelation is in an email that disgraced FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok wrote to FBI executives around the time BuzzFeed published a version of the dossier on Jan. 10, 2017.

“Our internal system is blocking the site,” Strzok wrote of the document posted on BuzzFeed. “I have the PDF via iPhone but it’s 25.6MB. Comparing now. The set is only identical to what McCain had. (it has differences from what was given to us by Corn and Simpson.)”

The significance of Strzok’s email is obvious to investigators who reviewed it in recent days. The FBI is supposed to be immune to manipulation by circular information flows, especially with sensitive investigations such as evaluating whether a foreign power tampered with an American election.

Yet, in this case, the generally same information kept walking through the FBI’s door for months — recycled each time by a new character with ties to Hillary Clinton or hatred for Trump — until someone decided they had to act.

That someone was Strzok, whose own anti-Trump bias was laid bare by his personal text messages. He first opened a case on Russia-Trump collusion on July 31, 2016 after the first flow of information, then escalated to get a warrant targeting a former Trump adviser in October after a second flurry of allegations.

The pattern is so troubling that one investigator said this to me: “The dossier and its related dirt was on a circular flight path aboard a courier service called ‘Air Clinton,’ and the FBI kept signing for the packages.”

Here is the evidence that supports those concerns.

Simpson and his firm were paid by Clinton’s campaign to hire Steele to find dirt on Trump in Russia during the 2016 election.

Oddly — and perhaps contradicting Strzok’s email — Simpson testified he was unaware of any version of the dossier being given to the FBI. “I don't know that there was a version provided to the FBI,” he testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

In his House Intelligence Committee testimony, Simpson acknowledged he “acceded” to letting Steele talk to the FBI but insisted he himself never talked to the FBI about the dossier. “Did you meet with intelligence officials regarding the dossier?” he was asked. “No,” Simpson replied. Pressed if he ever talked to the FBI, Simpson added: "I didn't approach the FBI."

In light of the new emails, investigators will want to determine if Simpson misled Congress or if Strzok misstated the source of one of the versions.

The chief courier of the Trump dirt was Steele, a former MI6 agent respected for past collaborations with the FBI on intelligence matters. But we now know he was “desperate” to defeat Trump, according to sworn testimony.

The first time Steele met the FBI on July 5, 2016, he got a lukewarm reception.

Then Australian diplomat Alexander Downer in late July recalled a May 2016 conversation he had with Trump adviser George Papadopoulos about possible Russian hacks of Clinton emails, and relayed that to U.S. authorities.

Downer — another “courier” in some investigators’ minds — has his own ties to the Clintons. As Australia’s foreign minister in 2006, he arranged one of the largest-ever foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation, a $25 million grant to fight AIDS.

Strzok quietly opened an investigation of possible Trump-Russia collusion on July 31, 2016, based in part on Downer’s information.

‘Extraordinary breakthrough’: Scientists make ‘Holy Grail’ universal flu vaccine discovery

Sourced from QRes#6750

Australian scientists have discovered immune cells that can fight all known flu viruses and mutations in what has already been branded an “extraordinary breakthrough” which could lead to the creation of a universal vaccine.

Scientists at the Doherty Institute and Monash University studied 67,000 viral sequences and narrowed them down to three sequences which are common across all strains of the influenza virus, which haven’t mutated for the past century.

They then identified so-called “killer T cells” found in over half the world’s population, which act like the body’s own private security, identifying abnormalities and infections and killing them.

Harvesting and replicating these cells could lead to the production of an all-in-one flu shot which would only be administered once a decade or possibly once in a lifetime.

Kim Jong-un accused of violent North Korean power purge to grab scarce cash

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has launched a brutal crackdown on his hermit-nation’s wealthy elite, seizing their assets to shore up his own coffers.

Kim Jong-un is once again moving to ensure he maintains a firm grip on North Korea. Some 70 members of the nation’s elite have been violently detained, and their assets seized.

Kim claims it’s an attempt to restore law and order. But US and South Korean security analysts have told the Wall Street Journal he’s attacking those he suspects of opposing his negotiations with the United States while at the same time topping-up his personal coffers.

Kim made a broadcast on state-controlled television earlier this year where he ‘declared war on corruption’.

Authorities “should intensify the struggle to eradicate both serious and trivial instances of abuse of power, bureaucratism and corruption, which would wreak havoc … and undermine the socialist system,” he said.

But he’s being accused of using it as a cover for his own political goals — namely funding his government amid tight international economic sanctions.
