Bolton Threatens to Send Venezuela’s Maduro to Guantánamo Bay Prison

(CD) — National Security Adviser John Bolton—the neoconservative who’s played a key role in the Trump administration’s effort to overthrow the Venezuelan government—suggested on Friday that President Nicolás Maduro could find himself locked away in the U.S. military prison at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Station in Cuba if he does not soon step aside.

Bolton—who has repeatedly threatened U.S. military action to force out Maduro—made the threat in a “crazy” radio interview (mp3) with right-wing commentator Hugh Hewitt about President Donald Trump’s broader policy toward Venezuela, including the administration’s endorsement of self-declared “Interim President” Juan Guaidó, and sanctions imposed via executive order against the state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PdVSA).

NSA John Bolton suggests Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro could end up in Guantanamo. Also seems like the Trump administration is expecting tomorrow to be showdown day in Venezuela as protests expected nationwide. Crazy interview: https://t.co/3lnZEUj7ch

Why Some Millennials Are Permanently Stuck on Stupid

Last week, I signed into LinkedIn (which is so much better than silly Facebook), and on my homepage feed, there was a feature article by some self-appointed, prominent millennial (who it was exactly, I can’t remember, but if I did, his name would be exposed) who wanted to destroy the negative stereotypes that millennials have. You know, the usual thing about millennials being lazy, entitlement-minded, stupid and only concerned with partying, drinking and sex (read: hedonism).

Pitifully for that millennial, his approach to busting negative stereotypes of his generation was to suggest a reading list that included liberal-minded, go-find-yourself crap books. Predictably, infinitely valuable and enlightening reading material—like, say, the U.S. Constitution, The Road to Serfdom and Victor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning—was nowhere to be found on that list!

That naturally got me thinking: Why the heck are some millennials just permanently stuck on stupid? Is it too much liberal indoctrination in colleges? Is it because the GOP has a bad reputation in the young person’s world? Is it because you just have to age and mature before you can wise up (read: become a conservative)?

SC senators resurrect bill to bring back the electric chair, add firing squad

COLUMBIA, S.C.

S.C. senators have revived a proposal to bring back the electric chair for the state’s death row executions, as well as add firing squads as an execution option.

The proposal passed the state Senate by a 26-13 vote Wednesday, split mostly along party lines. It now heads to the S.C. House, where a similar proposal died last year.

Backed by Senate Republicans, the bill is an attempt to address the S.C. Corrections Department’s inability to carry out executions because it does not have the chemicals needed for lethal injections.

Drug companies won’t sell the state the chemicals, fearing legal challenges and bad publicity, said state Sen. Greg Hembree, R-Horry, a supporter of the electrocution proposal.

In first test of 'stand your ground' law, Natrona County judge dismisses murder case

In the first judicial test of Wyoming’s new “stand your ground” law, a Natrona County judge on Friday dismissed a first-degree murder case, but implored prosecutors to appeal to the state’s highest court.

Judge Catherine Wilking handed down the ruling following a two-and-a-half-hour hearing, the bulk of which she ruled was required by the new law. Under the law, a person who is attacked at a place where he is legally allowed to be has no obligation to retreat, so long as he is not the initial aggressor or breaking any laws. A person who meets those criteria cannot be criminally prosecuted.

Jason T. John, who had faced a single count of murder after he shot a man entering his north Casper house in August, left the courthouse in the car of his attorney, Tim Cotton. Cotton declined to comment after the hearing, except to say that he expects the public defender’s Cheyenne appellate office to handle the appeal. Cotton said he may be prepared to make a statement early next week.

District Attorney Dan Itzen said he would take Wilking’s advice and appeal the case in conjunction with the Attorney General’s office. The law took effect in July, only about a month before John shot Wesley Willow, Jr. at around 4 a.m. on Aug. 3 at a trailer home on the 1200 block of North Center Street.
