As Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro continues to cling to power even as more countries recognize the legitimacy of opposition leader Juan Guaido, who will soon benefit from a fund of Venezuelan oil revenue being set up by the US, a US Navy Admiral has offered the first hint that the US might be moving toward boots-on-the-ground military intervention in Latin America's floundering socialist paradise.

According to Reuters, the admiral said the US military is prepared to protect US personnel and diplomatic facilities in Venezuela "if necessary."

"We are prepared to protect US personnel and diplomatic facilities if necessary," Navy Admiral Craig Faller, the head of US Southern Command, said during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

This even after Maduro backed down from threats to forcefully expel all US personnel in the days after Guaido dramatically declared himself the legitimate acting president of Venezuela late last month and called for new elections to be held.

We've been warning all along that despite assurances from Guaido that the situation in Venezuela wouldn't devolve into an all-out civil war, that some kind of conflict still appeared imminent.

And President Trump and National Security Advisor John Bolton have maintained that the door remained open to a possible US military intervention.

Actress shares bizarre Instagram cartoon featuring man eating meat, hunting: ‘Humans don’t deserve earth’

Actress Debra Messing shared a curious — and flat-out bizarre — video on her Instagram page, remarking that "God is crying" because of the way humans are using the earth.

What are the details of this video?

The video, which features a 2012 cartoon titled "Man," has received more than 13,000 likes on Instagram since the ultra-liberal (and often unhinged) Messing shared it on Wednesday.

Messing captioned the video, "This took my breath away. You see a cartoon, a smiling man walking jauntily in the sunshine. Then it all comes into focus. God is crying. We must do better."

The video features man's impact on the world, painting his presence and behaviors in a decidedly negative light.

Some of the actions in the video include the cartoon man — who is overweight and wearing a shirt that reads "Welcome" — hunting for food, using animal hide for clothing and footwear, and using trees for paper. The video also features the man using animals in the circus.

Messing recently made headlines in January, in being one of the more prolific voices to condemn the Covington (Kentucky) Catholic High School students who encountered Native American activist Nathan Phillips on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. After the March for Life, a viral video of Phillips interacting with the Covington boys emerged, sparking a media firestorm.

The media — and social media — pointed its fingers at the boys for reportedly mocking and taunting Phillips while he demonstrated. The narrative changed entirely, however, when other videos of the incident emerged, painting an entirely different picture of the incident, and the teens were vindicated.

Messing, who minced no words on her opinion of the teens, tweeted that the main teen in the viral video was an "a**hole."

“Mocking, condescending, disrespecting, A**HOLE," she wrote in a tweet.

Messing never issued a follow-up comment on her tweet after the media's initial narrative was completely debunked.

Last week, the teen's lawyers revealed that the team sent at least 54 letters to media organizations, journalists, celebrities, and more who they allege are complicit in defaming the teen over the misconstrued video.

The US Syria Withdrawal and the Myth of the Islamic State's "Return"

At face value - the notion that the US occupation of Syria is key to preventing the return of the so-called "Islamic State" (ISIS) to Syrian territory is unconvincing.

Regions west of the Euphrates River where ISIS had previously thrived have since been permanently taken back by the Syrian Arab Army and its Russian and Iranian allies - quite obviously without any support from the United States - and in fact - despite Washington's best efforts to hamper Damascus' security operations.

Damascus and its Russian and Iranian allies have demonstrated that ISIS can be permanently defeated. With ISIS supply lines running out of NATO-territory in Turkey and from across the Jordanian and Iraqi border cut off - Syrian forces have managed to sustainably suppress the terrorist organization's efforts to reestablish itself west of the Euphrates.

The very fact that ISIS persists in the sole region of the country currently under US occupation raises many questions about not only the sincerity or lack thereof of Washington's efforts to confront and defeat ISIS - but over whether or not Washington is deliberately sustaining the terrorist organization's fighting capacity specifically to serve as a pretext for America's continued - and illegal - occupation of Syrian territory.

Massive Harvard Study Contradicts Anti-Pot Propaganda Told to Us for Decades

For decades anti-marijuana and even pro-marijuana advocates have repeated a narrative about the potentially negative effects associated with smoking marijuana and the male sperm count. Smoking weed, we were told, decreases your ability to produce sperm. However, an extensive study published by none other than Harvard researchers this week, reveals quite the opposite may be happening.

The study, titled: Marijuana smoking and markers of testicular function among men from a fertility centre, was published on Wednesday in the journal Human Reproduction. The study posed the question of “Is marijuana smoking associated with semen quality, sperm DNA integrity or serum concentrations of reproductive hormones among subfertile men?”

The answer was surprising as it directly contradicted their expected result based on previously held beliefs and found that marijuana use did indeed appear to have a positive effect on sperm count.

“Our findings were contrary to what we initially hypothesized,” said Feiby Nassan, Ph.D., the study’s lead author and research fellow at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The study consisted of examining 662 subfertile men who were enrolled at the Massachusetts General Hospital Fertility Center between 2000 and 2017.

“The men provided a total of 1143 semen samples; 317 men also provided blood samples in which we measured reproductive hormones,” according to the study.

The men self-reported the use of marijuana. Interestingly, whether or not they had smoked it recently or a decade ago did not appear to affect the results. The study’s authors found that men who simply smoked weed at least once in their lives had a significantly higher sperm count than the men who never partook in the plant.

These findings, according to the team, “are not consistent with a deleterious effect of marijuana on testicular function.” The researchers noted that because they found the opposite of what they were looking for, further studies are recommended to confirm their findings.

Canadian right-wing YouTuber, author and filmmaker Lauren Southern spoke to Hungarian daily Magyar Hirlap about her upcoming documentary, Borderless.

According to Southern, with her team they initially wanted to show how mass immigration disintegrates Europe’s culture and traditions, but later they discovered the less talked about aspect of the story: the massive crime ring of smugglers and NGOs that boost illegal immigration to Europe.

She also blamed the politicians who are showing false compassion in order to serve their own popularity, while ignoring what happens with the migrants in Europe.

Southern said that the European people and the migrants are all victims, because the latter are being invited to countries which won’t and can’t take care of them.

“Lives are being ruined by false promises”, she said, adding that the migrants are being “lured into a paradise which doesn’t exist”.

Cindy McCain, the widow of the late Arizona Sen. John McCain, apologized Wednesday after Phoenix police disputed her claim that she stopped a human trafficking attempt at an airport.

“I commend the police officers for their diligence. I apologize if anything else I have said on this matter distracts from ‘if you see something, say something,’” McCain wrote on Twitter.

On Monday, McCain said she knew there was something amiss when she spotted “a woman of a different ethnicity” at the airport.

Yes, she actually said this.

“I came in from a trip I’d been on and I spotted — it looked odd — it was a woman of a different ethnicity than the child, this little toddler she had, and something didn’t click with me,” McCain told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

“I went over to the police and told them what I saw, and they went over and questioned her, and, by God, she was trafficking that kid,” she added, noting that the woman was “waiting for the guy who bought the child to get off an airplane.”

Police said the woman and the girl did nothing illegal.

U.S. Already Made Decision To Use Force In Venezuela: Russian Foreign Ministry

The US is working on regime change scenarios in Venezuela, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated during a weekly briefing in Moscow on February 7.

“There are still signs coming from Washington about the possibility of using force in order to overthrow the legal authorities, including through direct military invasion. This is actually being spoken about openly in the White House. I would like to recall that this kind of statement from the mouth of American officials is a direct violation of Article 2 Par. 4 of the UN Charter, ordering all UN members to refrain from the threat or use of force in international relations”, Zakharova she stressed.

Zakharova said that the decision on the use of force had already been made by Washington, “everything else is nothing more than a covering operation”.

“Washington has turned to direct threats of sanctions to the Venezuelan military, who remain loyal to the legitimate government. That is just a different, new reading of the ‘carrot and stick’ approach. On the one hand, they threaten a potential punishment. On the other hand, they promise a potential reward”, the diplomat said.

She pointed out that Washington has incited Venezuela’s military to commit crimes, promising them amnesty for betraying the country’s authorities.

Earlier, US National Security Advisor John Bolton said that the US was ready to waive sanctions on senior Venezuelan military officers if they pledge allegiance to US-proclaimed Venezuelan interim president Juan Guaido.

Individuals with approved claims will receive a letter from the State Department notifying the parties that they will get a payment with an additional 97% increase from their original stipend.

Those whose claims have been approved by the US State Department will be making "additional' payments to those in connection with the Holocaust Deportations Program.

The program was established in connection US-France Agreement of Compensation for Certain Victims of Holocaust-Related Deportations from France Who Are Not Covered By French Programs.

In 2014, the program was concluded, after negotiations between France, the State Department's Office for the Legal Adviser (who has administered the claims program since inception) and the State Department's Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues.

The United States is now close completion of concluding the program officially and collected all of the funding from the French government.

"The administration of this claims program was a thorough process to the benefit of those long-denied justice. We applaud the willingness of the French government to address this injustice," lauded the State Department in a released statement. France was released from the special program under the condition that they provide a lump-sum of $60 million to the State Department, paid over two periods, to administer survivors of deportation, surviving spouses of deportees, and representatives of the estates of survivors and surviving spouses who are no longer living.

The agreed sum will go towards claims for the living and deceased Holocaust victims.

Claims awarded to living survivors of deportations toal around $204,000; living spouses of deportees whose spouse died before 1948, receive $51,000 and a proportionally adjusted amount if said spouse died after 1948.

A portion of those funds will also go to the children and relatives of survivors; surviving spouses also receive a fair portion of the claim as well.

Pentagon Looking To Step Up Its Disinformation Warfare

US Department of Defense officials are looking to weaponize disinformation, by looking for new “influencing tools” against “enemy propaganda,” military.com reported.

The Pentagon wishes to expand its capabilities in irregular warfare, which according to Defense officials is a critical tool for defeating near-peer adversaries preemptively.

“As a department, we have often exhibited a historical preference in the past century for traditional high-end force rather than irregular solutions,” Andrew Knaggs, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism said on February 5th.

“As DoD shifts to meet the demands of great power competition … we are hard at work institutionalizing the substantial expertise in [irregular warfare, or IW] that we have over the last 17 years of irregular conflict.”

The National Defense Strategy requires that irregular warfare become a core competency for the DoD, said Owen West, assistant secretary of defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict.

West also added that this is a continuation of Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ efforts to end the habit of “standing up and standing down advisory capacity” in past conflicts.

The emphasis on irregular warfare “isn’t just [special operations forces]; this is the entire joint force … sustaining that ability,” West said.

“Our adversaries have weaponized disinformation and propaganda to their advantage,” Knaggs warned. “Rather than hiding from the transparency afforded by the 24-hour news cycle and pervasive social media, our adversaries embrace that cycle and they use it to their advantage.”

He also said that the Pentagon should embrace “the potential of these tools to shape, compel and deter would-be adversaries.”

“We also need to give renewed emphasis to the information environment. Our adversaries have weaponized disinformation and propaganda to their advantage. Rather than hiding from the transparency afforded by the 24-hour news cycle and pervasive social media, our adversaries embrace that cycle and they use it to their advantage,” he added.

Similarly to what the Institute for Statecraft and its pet project the Integrity Initiative do, the approach to messaging must be changed to have better coordination with “civilian agencies and other civilian entities,” as well as new technologies designed to “isolate and identify disinformation.”

“Conventional forces have proven essential in bringing sufficient mass, scale and lethality to the fight in support of most irregular warfare contingencies,” Knaggs said. “As a result, the current joint force is more experience in IW today than it was in past generations.”

In their efforts, the Pentagon may find assistance in the Integrity Initiative, which appears to also be moving across the Atlantic from the UK.

Israel paper: US interfering in polls to help Netanyahu?

An Israeli paper speculates that the administration of US President Donald Trump could be meddling in Israel’s elections to help secure a win for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a report on Tuesday, The Jerusalem Post raised the suspicion after Trump shared a photo directly from Netanyahu’s Instagram account, which showed an election poster made by Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party of the two shaking hands and smiling.

The advertisement captioned “Netanyahu: In a different league” prompted similar criticism after first showing up in Tel Aviv.

It has now turned up elsewhere across streets in the Israeli-occupied territories, said Arutz Sheva on its website.

The Jerusalem Post further pointed to the large numbers of likes and comments under Trump’s share, saying this raised “concerns about election interference.”

The network went as far as saying Likud had “recruited” Trump to promote its election chances.

Late last month, it was reported that the party had released a promotional video glorifying the two politicians’ relationship by boasting about Trump’s relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy occupied city of Jerusalem al-Quds last May.

The embassy relocation flew in the face of internationally-recognized Palestinian demands that the occupied city’s eastern part serve as the capital of their future state.

It also circumvented a United Nations General Assembly resolution that had called on Trump to retract its recognition of al-Quds as Israel’s “capital,” which he had announced in late 2017.

Likud’s video begins with a text on the screen stating, “They said it’s impossible,” referring to the embassy transfer.

It also features Trump’s announcement of the relocation and Netanyahu’s statement that “the US embassy needs to be here, in Jerusalem (al-Quds).”

Trump began contributing to Netanyahu’s political powerbase in 2013, when he appeared in a video made by a Likud promoter, voicing all-out verbal support for the premier. “

So vote for Benjamin, terrific guy, terrific leader, great for Israel,” Trump had said in the footage.

Netanyahu faces four corruption cases, and reports say Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit has reached a decision to indict him prior to April’s elections on bribery charges. He has been the target of regular protests, including in front of Mandelblit’s residence in northern Israel, in favor of his resignation.

MENLO PARK, CALIFORNIA — After Facebook purged thousands of independent media pages from its platform in October, one may be forgiven for thinking that Facebook couldn’t go any lower. But in the company’s second purge of 2019, the social media giant may have done just that.

The round of bans — doled out on Thursday to more than a thousand pages — was revealed in two blog posts: one focusing on pages that allegedly originated in Iran and another that took aim at activity in Indonesia. Not to be outdone, on Thursday Twitter also banned more than 2,500 accounts that it “believes may have origins in Iran.”

Additionally, 418 accounts that Facebook says “it cannot render definitive attribution to the [Internet Research Agency] for … although most appear to originate in Russia,” were also banned. Then 764 accounts “located in Venezuela,” a country in which the United States has been backing a coup attempt in since last week, were banned; and another 1,196 accounts “which appear to be engaged in a state-backed influence campaign” in Venezuela were also shuttered.

Alabama police will not allow poor drivers to leave the state

If you are too poor to pay a traffic ticket or a fine in Alabama the police will not let you leave the state.

You read that right, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will issue poor people "hardship drivers licenses" but you cannot leave.

The mass media is falling all over themselves praising the new law, saying "this rule could help tens of thousands of people, over 20,000 alone had their licenses suspended just for an inability to pay for fines and fees that were assets to them," said Dev Wakeley.

“They will be able to drive to work to school to medical appointments, to civic appointments or civic organization events as well as you know to go out and vote or if they need to do household chores or things of that nature,” says Captain Jon Archer of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Captain Archer confirms that poor people will not be allowed to leave Alabama.

“If you do get a hardship drivers license you can only operate in Alabama. You won’t be able to drive out of state,” says Captain Jon Archer of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency."

Hardship drivers licenses exist in every state and are mostly used for minors and DUI offenders, they are not used to punish the poor.

An article in Alabama Today claims police have begun accepting applications to restore limited driving privileges to thousands of motorists who simply are too poor to pay their ticket.

According to Senate Bill 55 the police will only give poor people a hardship drivers license if they do not pose a risk to public safety.

"The Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency shall develop and implement a Class D hardship driver license program with specified and limited driving privileges for a person with a suspended or revoked license who can demonstrate to the reasonable satisfaction of the agency that he or she does not pose a risk to public safety."

Welcome to American policing where one's inability to pay a ticket or a fine is now a risk to "public safety."

Governor withdraws most National Guard from border

SANTA FE - New Mexico's governor, arguing there is not an "overwhelming national security crisis," withdrew the majority of National Guard troops deployed at the state's southern border.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Tuesday, Feb. 5, also announced she would be sending more help to Hidalgo County — one of the state's three border counties — to assist with humanitarian needs.

"I reject the federal contention that there exists an overwhelming national security crisis at the southern border, along which are some of the safest communities in the country," the Democrat governor stated in a news release sent hours before President Donald Trump's scheduled State of the Union. "However, I recognize and appreciate the legitimate concerns of residents and officials in southwestern New Mexico, particularly Hidalgo County, who have asked for our assistance, as migrants and asylum-seekers continue to appear at their doorstep."

Former Gov. Susana Martinez, a Republican, sent 200 National Guard troops to the border in April 2018 at the request of President Trump. At that time, Martinez told the Sun-News that troops deployed for the border security mission are acting as a support system for the Border Patrol, allowing for more "boots on the ground" by agents.

Of the original 200 National Guard troops, a total of 118 remained before Lujan Grisham's announcement.

A small contingent — around a dozen guardsmen — will remain in the southwestern corner of the state to assist with humanitarian needs and to asses whether an "augmented presence" in that part of the state is needed.

In recent months, multiple groups of 100-plus migrants have been entering the United States at the remote Antelope Wells Port of Entry, in Hidalgo County. The large groups of families, women and children crossing the border have stressed border agents and medical facilities in the area.

The governor also directed the Department of Public Safety to temporarily deploy an group of six New Mexico State Police officers to assist the day-to-day operations of local law enforcement in Hidalgo County. Lujan Grisham said the directive comes at the request of Hidalgo County Manager Tisha Green.

Green sent a letter to state and federal lawmakers, dated Dec. 26, 2018, asking for medical, law enforcement and sanitation resources.

Trump’s Absurd Claim that Americans Are Free from Government Coercion

In his State of the Union address Tuesday night, President Trump received rapturous applause from Republicans for his declaration: “America was founded on liberty and independence — not government coercion, domination, and control. We are born free, and we will stay free.” But this uplifting sentiment cannot survive even a brief glance at the federal statute book or the heavy-handed enforcement tactics by federal, state, and local bureaucracies across the nation.

In reality, the threat of government punishment permeates Americans’ daily lives more than ever before:

The number of federal crimes has increased from 3 in 1789 to more than 4000 today. Congress has criminalized “transporting alligator grass across a state line; unauthorized use of the slogan ‘Give a hoot, don’t pollute’; and pretending to be a 4-H club member with intent to defraud,” as the Buffalo Criminal Law Review noted.

Law enforcement agencies arrested over 10 million people in 2017— roughly three percent of the population. Trump momentarily noticed the existence of government coercion last month when he complained about the FBI using “29 people” and “armored vehicles” for the arrest of Roger Stone. But SWAT teams conduct up to 80,000 raids a year, according to the ACLU, mostly for drug arrests or search warrants. Many innocent people have been killed in such raids.

Trump on Tuesday highlighted the case of Alice Johnson, unjustly sentenced to life in prison for a nonviolent drug offense. Trump’s commutation of her sentence is no consolation to the targets of 1.6 million drug arrests in 2017 – and it is not like those individuals showed up voluntarily at police stations asking to be “cuffed-and-stuffed.” More people are arrested for marijuana offenses than for all violent crimes combined, according to FBI statistics.

No coercion? Tell that to the scores of thousands of victims of asset forfeiture laws, which entitle law enforcement to confiscate people’s cash, cars, and other property based on the flimsiest accusation. Federal law-enforcement agencies seized more property via asset forfeiture provisions in 2014 year than all the burglars stole from homeowners and businesses nationwide.

Since 1970, the number of people confined in American prisons has increased by over 500 percent. Almost 10 percent of all American males will end up in prison at some point in their lives, according to an a 1997 Justice Department report. More than 10 percent of black males aged 20 to 34 were behind bars as of 2006, according to the Journal of American History.

Spanish priest says ‘powerful Jews’ canceled his anti-Israel film event

Spanish priests whose church canceled a planned projection of an anti-Israel film blamed the cancellation on threats and how “dying Negroes are less important than the powerful Jews.”

Pastor Javier Baeza’s comments about blacks in a newspaper interview Friday were decried by the pro-Israel ACOM group as part of a “fundamentally anti-Semitic narrative” involving both Jews and Israel in the predominantly Catholic kingdom of Spain.

On Saturday, the controversial film, “Gaza, a look into the eyes of barbarism,” whose critics say is one-sided and inaccurate, won the “Best Documentary” category of the Goyas, the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars.

Baeza referenced black people in saying that no one complained against his screening last month of a film about Africans dying en route to Europe. But “there were pressures from the Jewish community” to cancel the projection Friday of the film, he told El Pais, before proposing his conclusion about powerful Jews.

The film was scheduled to be screened Friday at the Pastoral Center of San Carlos Borrome in southeastern Madrid but Carlos Osoro, the archbishop of Madrid, said the church is “obligated” to suspend the projection indefinitely out of security concerns “because of the threats we’ve received in the last few days.”

The Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain said in a statement the film was being promoted by organizations promoting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel, which he said “seeks to delegitimize Israel and Israelis.” But the group is not aware of any threats.

Israel said to find new Iranian precision missile factory in northwest Syria

Tehran reportedly rebuild facility previously bombed by IAF in different location, bypassing international sanctions with help from Syrian government and terror group Hezbollah

Israel has discovered new ambitious precision missile factory in being constructed by Iran in Syria together with the Syrian government and Lebanese terror group Hezbollah after Israel bombed and destroyed a previous one, an Israeli TV network reported Thursday evening.

The report on Channel 12 said the new factory was recently built near the northwestern city of Safita in hopes that Israel wouldn’t discover it in the location, which is far from previous Iranian sites struck by Israel elsewhere in Syria. The factory is intended to focus on producing precision missiles, dramatically upgrading the threat to Israel from the vast arsenal of rockets and missiles deployed against it in southern Lebanon by Iran’s proxy, Hezbollah.

To build it, Channel 12 reported, Iran had to bypass international sanctions on its missile program via a series of straw companies established by Syria’s Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), a government agency that manufactures weaponry and whose facilities have repeatedly been targeted by Israel in the past.
