American University (AU) is located near the Ward Circle residential area of Washington DC, four miles from Capitol Hill.

AU's student body numbers over 13,000, with a 35% acceptance rate; around a fifth of students are international.

The alumni is an eclectic group, with a disproportionately high number of public figures. It's ranks include politicians and people involved in politics (both parties but mainly liberal), high society, royalty, foreign heads of state, ambassadors, military leaders, business leaders, media figures, etc.
