Most Masons are just 3rd degree. What that means is, the local Masons do a recruiting drive and scoop up everyone who doesn't run away fast enough. They grind through three initiations without explaining a damn thing. Then the new 3rd degree Masons smile politely and say, "Great, thanks," and walk away and never talk to the folks in the Lodge ever again.
There are millions of Masons, and probably 90% of them were rushed through the degrees without anyone taking any time to teach them anything or gain their deep loyalty. Thus 90% of the Masons out there don't have any usefulness to Masonic organizations.
