BuzzFeed CEO: Big Tech Companies Having ‘Huge Problem’ Controlling Content
BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti claimed Big Tech companies are having a “huge problem” controlling content on their platforms, and declared, “We can’t just police bad content, we have to produce good content,” during a speech at SXSW, Friday.
According to the Austin Chronicle, Peretti acknowledged that media outlets like BuzzFeed “have had to reduce costs and staff,” but reportedly claimed the situation was improving.
Peretti also claimed that “Tech platforms are having a huge problem with the content on their platforms,” explaining, “They don’t make the content and are having trouble controlling the content.”
“We’ve never been more connected, but we’ve never felt more divided,” declared Peretti, claiming that the problems with digital media have now spread to tech companies.

A manager for Dolly Parton called out Democratic 2020 hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) saying she did not get approval to use Parton’s song “9 to 5” at her campaign events.
At a recent campaign launch event Warren played the Dolly Parton song “9 to 5,” which features lyrics that describe working class concerns.
Parton sings in part:
Workin’ 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin’
Barely gettin’ by, it’s all takin’ and no givin’
They just use your mind and they never give you credit
It’s enough to drive you crazy if you let it
9 to 5, for service and devotion
You would think that I would deserve a fat promotion

However, Parton’s manager, Danny Nozell, told the Associated Press, “We did not approve the request, and we do not approve requests like this of (a) political nature”

Philadelphia has reportedly become the first city in the United States to ban cashless stores and restaurants in an attempt to be more “inclusive” to Americans without bank accounts.
According to the Daily Mail, cashless stores and restaurants have faced criticism because “many believe the policy actually discriminates against those without bank accounts or credit cards,” and now cashless companies could face fines in Philadelphia.

China is “at war with faith,” said Sam Brownback in a speech in Hong Kong last Friday. “It’s a war they will not win. The Chinese Communist Party must hear the cry of its people for religious freedom.”
The Chinese foreign ministry office in Hong Kong reacted strongly to Brownback’s words. “We ask the U.S. to respect the facts, stop the arrogance and prejudice and cease using religious issues to interfere in China’s internal affairs,” it said in a statement.
