UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Washington proposes to put $ 5 million (about 4.4 million euros) at the disposal of the White Helmets in Syria and the international mechanism to facilitate investigations into violations of international law in Syria, said Thursday the State Department.
The US State Department has declared that the United States will release $ 5 million (about € 4.4 million) for White Helmets and the International Mechanism to Facilitate the Investigation of Violations of International Law.
“The United States intends to allocate $ 5 million for the continued life-saving activities of the life-saving White Helmets in Syria, as well as for the United Nations international mechanism,” according to a statement released by the United States.
The document states that the appropriate direction was given by Donald Trump and that it should be approved by Congress.
The mechanism was put in place by the UN, which adopted an appropriate resolution on December 21, 2016, to collect testimony to facilitate investigations into the most serious violations of international law committed in Syria since March 2011.
Moscow had previously indicated that if the mechanism had been elaborated in accordance with UN General Assembly resolution 71/248, it had been adopted by an abuse of power by that same body of the United Nations.
The White Helmets are accused by Damascus of being linked to the most extremist groups operating in Syria and of providing assistance to terrorists wounded in the bombings. They are also accused of staging false chemical attacks in Syria.
