One Nation refers Al Jazeera to police over secret gun lobby recordings

One Nation has referred Qatari-owned media outlet Al Jazeera to the Australian Federal Police, after a years-long sting operation caught senior party figures seeking multimillion-dollar donations from the US gun lobby.

The investigation - in which a reporter set up a fake pro-gun organisation in order to mingle with top-level figures in the United States' National Rifle Association - secretly recorded two senior advisers to One Nation leader Pauline Hanson during their visit to Washington in September last year.

"How dare you stand on the graves of those children to put forward your political agenda?" the NRA media representative said in the secret video. "Just shame them to the whole idea."

"That's very good, very strong," Mr Ashby responded.

One Nation did not deny its two operatives made the comments aired by Al Jazeera. In a statement Mr Ashby said Al Jazeera was little more than a Qatari "propaganda arm" and demanded it release the full recorded conversation.

"Al Jazeera are a state-owned propaganda arm of the Qatari government that supports Islamic extremist groups and are not a legitimate media organisation," Mr Ashby said.

Harvard profited from slave photos that belong to descendants, lawsuit says

Harvard University “shamelessly” turned a profit from photos of two 19th-century slaves while ignoring requests to turn the photos over to the slaves’ descendants, a lawsuit alleges.

Tamara Lanier, of Norwich, Connecticut, is suing the Ivy League school for “wrongful seizure, possession and expropriation” of images she said depict two of her ancestors. Her suit, filed in Massachusetts state court, demands Harvard immediately turn over the photos, acknowledge her ancestry and pay an unspecified sum in damages.

“These photographs make it clear that Harvard benefited from slavery then and continues to benefit now,” said the civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, one of Lanier’s lawyers. “By my calculation, Renty is 169 years a slave. When will Harvard finally set him free?”

Coaches, Others Plead Not Guilty in College Admissions Scam

BOSTON—Athletic coaches charged in a sweeping college admissions scam pleaded not guilty on March 25 to taking bribes from wealthy parents in exchange for helping students get into elite universities such as Georgetown.

They appeared in Boston’s federal court nearly two weeks after they were arrested in what authorities have described as the biggest college admissions scheme ever prosecuted by the U.S. Justice Department , which also ensnared prominent parents like actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin.

Google Likely Shifted Undecided Voters in 2018 Election, Perhaps Millions, Researcher Says

Google may have skewed the results of the 2018 midterm elections by millions of votes, according to research by psychologist Robert Epstein.

Epstein had about 130 anonymous “field agents” in Orange County, California, and about 30 more across the country who had all their election-related Google search results recorded, more than 47,000 of them, including nearly 400,000 web pages that the search results linked to.

“We found significant pro-liberal bias on Google—enough, quite easily, to have flipped all three congressional districts in Orange County from Republican to Democrat,” Epstein said in an emailed statement.

Democrats indeed flipped in 2018 the three congressional seats in the county that Epstein zeroed in for his study.
