President Trump said Tuesday the Russia investigation was started on orders from “very high up” in the Obama administration.
“It went very high up and it started fairly low, but with instructions from the high-up [officials],” Mr. Trump told reporters at the Capitol. “This should never happen to a president again. We can’t allow that to take place.”
Asked if the Obama White House was responsible for planting accusations of collusion, Mr. Trump replied, “I don’t want to say that, but I think you know the answer.”
Special counsel Robert Mueller said in his final report that there was no evidence of collusion between Trump campaign officials and Moscow during the 2016 election.
The president visited the Capitol to attend a lunch with Senate Republicans. Asked about the Mueller report, the president said it was “great.”
