Some people confuse the word "Jewish". Jewish is a religion that anyone can convert to and be titled Jewish. Jewish culture goes way back to the tribes of Israel called the Hebrews. Hebrews were expelled from Babylon by crazy people who sacrificed goats to obtain a medallion that they believed would protect them for life. After the Hebrews were expelled they moved north mostly and many settled in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Argentina, and elsewhere. The German Jews today are of Ashkenazi heritage which is people of the water because they lived near the waterside. Jews today from Spain and Portugal are of Sephardic heritage. They spoke a romantic/ turkish hebrew language. SOooooooo , many people when asked what their heritage or nationality is, just say half Jewish if they have a Jewish side of the family. But they should be saying the countries in which their Jewish family is from. Not all Jews are Hebrews and descendants of the Israelites or 12 tribes of Israel that are the people of the bible stories and ancient conflicts. BUT I did know lots of kids who grew up having a christmas and a little Hanukah mix because one parent was Bat mitzvahd and the other was Christened. Those kids got many gifts. I have one side of the family that is Hebrew because they can trace roots back to Israel and the tribe of Kohanim, but my other side is just German Jews that escaped Hitler, Soooooo I'm half Hebrew but 100% Jewish by my upbringing and Bar Mitzvah. I don't practice the religion much at all so Jewish is not a proper religous title for me either. Titles just suck non-sensical steretypical generalizing
