This is the main route to look at.

It's not easy for a defector to go straight from the north to the south. SK's government is extremely strict about letting these people in. Most escape to China or other countries in SE Asia then apply to a program to be let into SK. It's a long complicated process. Many go missing because of trafficking and because some get caught in SE Asian countries and that's murky legal waters to tread in.
