My currently running theory is that it was a blatant mistake, made in desperation to change the headlines.
Remember, all the years BO was running things, it was VJ that organized and handled the how's and when's. BO doesn't have that safety net anymore.
Someone had an idea, a dumb idea, and he ran with it.
