BREAKING: NC GOP Chair Indicted For Fraud

Charlotte’s WBTV reports that former congressman and current chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party has been indicted on charges of directing illegal campaign contributions to North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey in an attempt to bribe him. Greg Lindbergh, a Durham businessman and two of Lindbergh’s associates were also indicted.

The indictment, based on an investigation which has been ongoing since at least August 2018, alleges that the contributions were made “in exchange for the removal of NCDOI’s Senior Deputy Commissioner, who was responsible for overseeing regulation and the periodic examination of ” a company owned by Lindbergh. Causey was working with federal authorities and was charged in the indictment. WBTV previously reported that Causey made secret recordings of a meeting with Hayes, Lindbergh, and another person.

NCGOP Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse confirmed to WBTV last year that the state Republican Party had made a $240,000 payment to Causey’s campaign but said that the donation was legal. The $240,000 was a portion of a donation to the state party that was made by Lindbergh.

The four men under indictment are charged with conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds and aiding and abetting. Hayes is also charged with three counts of making false statements to the FBI.

The North Carolina GOP has been saddled with accusations of voter fraud relating to the 2018 election of Mark Harris. The evidence of fraudulent absentee ballots was so overwhelming that the state board of elections has called for a new election.

New Zealand Introduces Gun-Grabbing Bill that Will Soon Become Law

The government of New Zealand has put forward legislation that would ban the majority of semi-automatic firearms.

Two weeks ago, BLP reported on Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern vowing to double down on gun control in the wake of the Christchurch mosque massacres.

Now it appears that she is following through with her word.

This proposed ban includes the types of weapons used in the massacres— two semi-automatic weapons and a shotgun.

This anti-gun bill’s introduction on April 1, 2019 is the next step in passing the sweeping gun control reforms that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern promised right after the March 15 attacks that left 50 people dead.

According to NPR, New Zealand immediately enacted several gun control measures on March 21. Police Minister Stuart Nash claims that the bill now being considered, which is a more extensive ban, would be enacted on April 12 should it pass. The New York Times report that this bill has overwhelming support across party lines.

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters told reporters on April 1, 2019 “This will mean that within four weeks of the Christchurch terrorist attack, New Zealand will have passed legislation banning all military-style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles.”

Trump adviser: White House ‘completely’ behind Moore for Fed

WASHINGTON — A top White House official says the Trump administration is “fully behind” Stephen Moore, the president’s latest choice to help lead the Federal Reserve. That’s despite unflattering financial details about Moore’s personal life that have come to light since President Donald Trump announced his decision.

Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, says “we are fully behind” Moore. Kudlow says Moore would be a “breath of fresh air” at the central bank. Kudlow complains people are “being awfully hard” on Moore.

Moore is a former Trump campaign adviser who has been affiliated with conservative groups. Some economists say Moore could inject politics into an institution that strives to keep its decisions free from political influence.

Kudlow was asked about Moore during a roundtable sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.
