Ruling by AG Barr May Keep Tens of Thousands of Migrants Waiting in Detention Indefinitely

A new ruling by Attorney General Bill Barr could keep tens of thousands of migrants seeking asylum waiting in detention indefinitely.

Under US law, the Attorney General has the right to overturn rulings by immigration judges and Bill Barr did just that.

Barr weighed in on an immigration case on Tuesday and said that asylum seekers who are awaiting removal and are not given a right to see a judge, should not be released into the US on bond.

Asylum seekers who used to be released into the US on bond while awaiting a decision from a judge on their immigration case will now be kept in detention centers indefinitely where they could be waiting for years for.

NBC News reported:

“This ruling gives [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] the legal authority to detain all of these people indefinitely,” said Sarah Pierce, a policy analyst with the Migration Policy Institute, an immigration think tank. “That’s if they have the capacity. So I think the actual effect of this ruling will be severely limited by ICE’s capacity.”

Due to the limited capacity, Barr said his decision should go into effect in 90 days in order to give ICE time to build bed space.

The decision is expected to affect a broad swath of immigrants coming to the southwest border to claim asylum. Immigrants who enter the U.S. without documents, or with documents suspected to be fraudulent, are placed into expedited removal before they have an interview with U.S. asylum officers at which they try to establish they have credible fear for their safety if they return to their home countries.

Barr’s decision reversed an immigration judge’s decision to release an immigrant on bond while waiting for his proceedings. He also said that the Board of Immigration Appeals, a panel that reviews immigration court decisions, “wrongly decided” that only immigrants who enter the U.S. through legal ports of entry should be detained while others could be released on bond.

As a result of the decision, thousands of asylum seekers will remain in ICE detention while they await a decision in their case. Families with children under 18, however, will not be affected because of a federal court decision that prevents minors from being held longer than 20 days.

The crisis at the US-Mexico border is the worst this country has ever seen.

Multiple caravans originating in the Honduras with tens of thousands of military-aged male migrants have marched through Mexico northbound to the US border seeking asylum.

In March alone, over 100,000 illegals were detained by US Border Patrol agents.

In February, the President declared a national emergency to secure funding to build a border wall, however, the dangerous “catch and release” asylum policies are allowing illegals to be released into US communities.

Bill Barr said during his confirmation hearings that he would be tough on illegal immigration and it looks like he’s stepping up to the plate.

If it had only been a singular incident involving a Catholic church in France the burning of one of the most well known human monuments to all of Christianity could be understandably classified as an unfortunate accident during recent renovation work. Given that more than a thousand French churches across the country have been vandalized in recent years, though, more and more French (and others) are wondering if the Notre Dame fire wasn’t something far more sinister. Just released video of what appears to be someone moving inside the cathedral followed by a flash of light allegedly right before the fire started will do nothing to lessen those suspicions. If this was an act of vandalism and not an accident then hopefully the perpetrator(s) will soon be caught and brought to justice.

It’s Hillary Clinton, of course – Frank Report identifies presidential candidate DOJ claims Nxivm illegally supported

One of the gems of information contained in Document 414 , that notable filing by prosecution, wherein they ask the judge to rule on admissibility of a raft of crimes and misdemeanors that that racketeering enterprise known as Nxivm allegedly engaged in, but were not charged for, is the following, and is found on page 24 of the document.

It alleges an illegal scheme to support a certain candidate for president of the USA.

While the prosecution does not name the candidate Nxivm allegedly illegally supported, Frank Report will identify her: She is Hillary Rodham Clinton.

There is no allegation that Clinton was a co-conspirator in the scheme.

i. Facts

At trial, the government intends to introduce witness testimony and documents demonstrating that in 2007, the defendants and their co-conspirators were involved in an illegal scheme to exceed contribution limits to a presidential primary campaign.

Witness testimony, corroborated by documentary evidence, will demonstrate that at least 14 members of the Nxivm community, including at least five defendants and co-conspirators made the maximum campaign donation to a primary campaign with the understanding that they would be reimbursed by [Clare] Bronfman or Nancy Salzman.

At the suggestion of a political operative, who has since pleaded guilty to an unrelated New York state bribery charge also involving campaign contributions, the contributions were “bundled” and presented to the candidate at a fundraising event attended by conspirators, including Nancy Salzman.

A cooperating witness who attended the event will testify that the defendants and their co-conspirators made the contributions in hopes of obtaining political influence to advance their own agenda, including targeting perceived enemies of Raniere. The government will also seek to introduce evidence of similar conduit contributions to other elected officials, as well as use of other political lobbyists in attempts to gain influence.

ii. Admissibility The defendants’ and co-conspirators’ involvement in the conduit contribution scheme and related acts described above, is direct evidence of the charged racketeering conspiracy. Their work together to commit crimes as part of a coordinated effort to curry political favor, evidenced in part by the records of maximum contributions by members of Nxivm on the same day, demonstrates the relationship of trust among the defendants and coconspirators, which is proof of the Enterprise’s existence.

… The same evidence also demonstrates the nature of the criminal relationships between the defendants, which defendants are attempting to portray as a purely legitimate association. The evidence of the conduit contributions is also direct evidence of the existence of the Enterprise and the pattern of racketeering activity because it is probative of the defendant and co-conspirators’ “us[e of] harassment, coercion and abusive litigation to intimidate and attack perceived enemies and critics of RANIERE,” (Indictment ¶ 6(f)).

Specifically, the bundled campaign contributions were part of an attempt to curry favor with a presidential nominee to advance the goals of the defendants and co-conspirators, including by obtaining indictments against enemies and gaining advantages in litigation.

UN says thousands of children killed or sexually assaulted in Yemen

UN has sounded the alarm on Monday night about children in Yemen, reporting that thousands have been killed in the Saudi-and-UAE-led war in neighbouring Yemen.

The UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba said that more than 7,500 children have been killed in the war.

"The figures for verified grave violations against children in Yemen during that period are staggering: more than 3,000 children were verified as recruited and used, more than 7,500 children were killed and maimed and over 800 cases of denial of humanitarian access to children were documented," said the UN official.

Gamba said the data was collated from April 2013 to the end of 2018, warning that many sexual assaults on children may have gone under-reported due the difficulty of obtaining information.

She called on rival factions to take urgent measures to guarantee that their military operations adhere to relevant international laws.

She also appealed to the fighting groups to facilitate humanitarian aids and relief in Yemen, described by Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, as "the world's largest aid operation".

"We continue to work with all the parties to find the safest, most efficient way to get this food to millions of desperately hungry people who need it as soon as possible," Lowcock told UN Security Council in a briefing on Monday.

Impoverished Yemen has been mired in crisis alongside brutal fighting between Iran-backed Houthi rebels and troops loyal to President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi since 2014.

The war escalated in 2015 when a Saudi-UAE-led military coalition stepped in support of the government's side.

The conflict has killed at least 10,000 people, according to reports from United Nations, with other reports from rights groups claiming that death toll may be higher.

India has vast arsenal of Russian-made weapons & seeks to expand it

Even as Washington is wooing New Delhi, India is seeking to buy Russian-made military hardware. The most recent deal would see the purchase of more than 450 tanks from Moscow for $1.93 billion, and it’s not even the biggest one.

The purchase of 464 T-90MS main battle tanks, approved last week, will further expand the large stock of Russian-designed and manufactured weapons in India’s arsenal. The country is one of the primary customers for Moscow’s arms.

Another, even more significant contract – worth $5.43 billion – was signed last October, when India ordered five S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems. Delivery is expected by 2020.

The cutting-edge air defense system is capable of intercepting and destroying targets at a distance of up to 400 kilometers and can engage up to six targets simultaneously. India has signaled it would go ahead with the purchase regardless of the US laws seeking to sanction any country that buys Russian military hardware.

T-90 main battle tanks

India already has over 1,000 T-90 tanks of various types. Since the early 2000s, the country has operated Т-90S Bhishma tanks, designed specifically to meet India’s needs. Some of the machines have been manufactured in Russia, while others were assembled locally out of Russian-made assembly kits.

Apart from the T-90S, India has purchased a number of T-90Ms – an upgraded iteration of the tank. In fact, India has significantly more T-90s in service than Russia itself, as well as a number of the older T-72 tanks.

A fire broke out at the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem just as flames ravaged the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Footage showing smoke and fire emerging from the roof of a structure known as the Marwani Prayer Room, or Solomon’s Stables, could be seen on social media. The Palestine News Agency, the official outlet of the Palestinian National Authority, cited a guard as saying Monday that “the fire broke out in the guard’s room outside the roof of the Marwani Prayer Room, and the fire brigade of the Islamic Waqf handled the matter successfully.”

No injuries or damage was reported during the short blaze.

News of the incident at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam and central to the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict, was largely overshadowed by a much larger blaze engulfing the Notre Dame Cathedral at the same time. There was no evidence of any link between the two fires.

The Palestine News Agency reported that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ office “expressed its deep regret Monday over the fire that broke out at the historic Notre Dame Cathedral in the center of the French capital of Paris, which caused the collapse of the cathedral tower.”

“The Presidency confirmed its solidarity and sympathy with our friends in France over this incident,” the outlet added.

The Marwani Prayer Room is located underneath the southeastern corner of the Temple Mount, known to Muslims as Haram al-Sharif, which contains both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque. Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib, director general of the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, told Jordan’s Al-Mamlaka TV that the fire broke out in the courtyard and preliminary information suggested that it may have been caused by children tampering in the area.

Kushner says Middle East peace plan won't be released before June

The Trump administration's proposal for achieving peace in the Middle East won't be released until June at the earliest, senior White House adviser Jared Kushner told ambassadors on Wednesday.

Reuters reported that Kushner urged ambassadors to remain open to compromise ahead of the plan's release, which has been touted since early in Trump's presidency. Kushner is spearheading the peace initiative with special envoy Jason Greenblatt, who confirmed the Reuters report in a tweet.

The June release would come after the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ends early in the month, and would allow recently reelected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to form a governing coalition.

Netanyahu secured a record-setting fifth term earlier this month. President Trump said at the time he believed his ally's victory increased the chances for a Mideast peace deal.

Kushner discussed the proposal Wednesday with roughly 100 ambassadors from around the world at Blair House, which is located across the street from the White House. He reportedly encouraged attendees to keep an open mind, but did not disclose whether the plan would call for the creation of a Palestinian state.

Reuters reported that Kushner disputed the peace plan would focus mostly on an economic package to aid Palestinians, insisting that it would contain a "very detailed" political component.

The Trump administration has promised since its early days to deliver a groundbreaking proposal to ensure peace between Israelis, Palestinians and other stakeholders in the Middle East. However, officials have revealed few specifics about the plan or when it might be made public.

The U.S. ambassador to Israel said in January that the plan would likely not be released for "several months." White House national security adviser John Bolton said last week that the administration will put out its plan "in the very near future."

While Trump and others have championed Netanyahu's involvement in the proposal, there has been little contact with Palestinian officials, who cut off negotiations last year over frustrations with the Trump administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Recently elected Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh further cast doubt on the chances of reaching a deal with the Trump administration in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday, saying any peace proposal will be “born dead.”

“There are no partners in Palestine for Trump,” Shtayyeh told the AP. “There are no Arab partners for Trump and there are no European partners for Trump.”

The CIA relies on involvement in drugs trafficking for the significant amount of its revenues.

Trump Calls Out 'Dirty Cops' at FBI Who Made 11 Payments to Christopher Steele

President Trump on Twitter Wednesday lashed out at corrupt officials at the FBI, Hillary Clinton, and the Democratic National Committee (DNC), for inflicting the fraudulent Steele dossier on the American people.

In his tweet, the president expressed shock that the Bureau in 2016 made eleven payments to British spy Christopher Steele, who was working for the Democratic opposition research firm Fusion GPS on behalf of the DNC and Clinton campaign.

"Wow! FBI made 11 payments to Fake Dossier’s discredited author, Trump hater Christopher Steele. … The Witch Hunt has been a total fraud on your President and the American people!" he wrote.

"It was brought to you by Dirty Cops, Crooked Hillary and the DNC," Trump added.

The president referenced the conservative news outlet OANN, which reported on the story on Tuesday. Documents previously released by conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch show that there were at least eleven FBI payments to Steele in 2016.

As part of its "extensive investigation" into the Clinton-funded anti-Trump dossier, Judicial Watch on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against the Department of Justice for communication and payment records between the FBI, Steele, and his private firm, Orbis Business Intelligence.

Judicial Watch is now trying to determine how involved the FBI was in pushing the discredited anti-Trump dossier on the American people.

Beginning in late July of 2016, former Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr began communicating with Steele and transferring information from Steele and Fusion GPS to the FBI, Epoch Times reported, based on Ohr's August 2018 congressional testimony.

Sometime in late 2016, Nellie Ohr provided her husband with a memory stick containing the research she compiled while employed at Fusion GPS. Bruce Ohr testified he gave the memory stick to FBI agent Joe Pientka. Nellie Ohr had left Fusion in September 2016.

The Israeli “Deal of the Century” Won’t Go Through: Extremism Dominates the Knesset, Splits within the Palestinian Leadership

For over a year now, the Israeli “Deal of the Century” for Palestine has been endorsed by the US establishment and is now echoing to the four corners of the world. The two novices in foreign policy, US President Donald Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, manoeuvred by Israel from behind the scenes, are trying to promote it among Arab states, particularly Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, the three countries who are supposed to exchange territories to further Israel’s plans in Gaza and the West Bank. It remains improbable that the US and Israel can impose this plan that has taken shape under the watchful but impotent gaze of Europe and the Arab nations.

Notwithstanding US-Arab-Israeli initial approval of this deal, the ultimate decision is in the hands of the Palestinian people. Although bickering and serious splits are omnipresent among the Palestinian leadership, all (including the President ad interim Mahmoud Abbas) have agreed to reject the Israeli-US deal. Thus, the “Deal of the Century” is expected to fall through because the Palestinians will never again make the mistake they made in 1948, and will hold on to their territory. They will not agree to exchange Palestine for parcels of land in Egypt and Jordan as written in the plan leaked by the same US establishment.

For almost a decade Washington has sought to silence, jail and eliminate the world’s most prominent investigative journalist, Julian Assange (JA) and his team of co-workers at WikiLeaks (WL).

Gazan Christians still waiting for permits to visit Jerusalem for Easter

MK sends letter to deputy defense minister demanding pilgrims in enclave be allowed to enter the West Bank and Israel; Defense Ministry body does not respond to request for comment

The Defense Ministry has yet to approve any permits for Christians living in the Gaza Strip to visit Jerusalem or the West Bank for Easter, less than five days before the holiday.

The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced on Tuesday that it would issue 200 permits for Palestinian Christians in the coastal enclave for those 55-years-old and over to travel to the Allenby border crossing between the West Bank and Israel for Easter, but made no mention about whether it would allow Christians in the Strip to visit the West Bank and Jerusalem.

COGAT, the Defense Ministry body responsible for liaising with the Palestinians, did not respond to a request for comment.

Nancy Pelosi Takes Control of U.S. Foreign Policy on Brexit With Stark Warning to U.K.

Addressing Ireland’s parliament in Dublin on Wednesday, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seized control of American foreign policy in relation to Brexit, saying that Congress would block any new trade deal with the United Kingdom if Britain’s exit from the European Union threatens the peace in Northern Ireland.

After introducing the slew of Irish-American lawmakers traveling with her, Pelosi praised the Good Friday Agreement, which brought peace to the British-governed territory of Northern Ireland in 1998 and removed the need for customs and security checkpoints along its border with Ireland.

“America will continue to stand with you in protecting the peace that the Good Friday accords have realized,” Pelosi said. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: We must ensure that nothing happens in the Brexit discussions that imperils the Good Friday accord, including, but not limited to, the seamless border between the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland.”

“Let me be clear,” Pelosi added, “if the Brexit deal undermines the Good Friday accords, there would be no chance of a U.S.-U.K. trade agreement.”

Pelosi also recalled “the bravery of our late friend, the extraordinary Martin McGuinness.” Before renouncing violence for politics, McGuinness was a commander in the Irish Republican Army. “Martin is beloved and missed by his many friends in Congress,” Pelosi added.

Pelosi’s words on trade were a hammer blow to so-called Brexiteers in Britain, who have fed the hearts of their supporters on the fantasy that the U.K. can simply walk away from the European customs union and single market, and offset the damage to its economy by striking a free trade deal with the U.S.

The stumbling block to that plan is that the U.K. can only trade freely with the U.S. after it completely withdraws from the EU, but doing so would require customs and immigration checks between Ireland, which remains an enthusiastic member of the European bloc, and Northern Ireland, which would leave.

Perhaps the greatest achievement of the peace in Northern Ireland has been the decrease in tension along that now-invisible line of partition, imposed on Ireland in 1921, when the British Empire divided the country in two. The prospect of once again fortifying it is seen by observers on all sides as a risk to the entire peace process.

According to Rolling Stone, any rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral "should be a reflection not of an old France, or the France that never was – a non-secular, white European France – but a reflection of the France of today, a France that is currently in the making."

Mayor Pete Will Make You Bake the Cake

Despite calls for pluralism, Buttigieg would force small business owners to violate religious conscience

Democratic presidential contender Pete Buttigieg's public calls for pluralism do not apply to religious small business owners.

South Bend Mayor Buttigieg has made his Episcopalian faith and tolerance a centerpiece of his campaign, but the policies he champions would force religious small business owners to participate in ceremonies they find objectionable under penalty of law. Buttigieg, who is married to a man, will keynote the Human Rights Campaign's annual dinner. The nation's largest LGBT lobbying group credited his support for the Equality Act for the invitation.

"Buttigieg is an outspoken advocate of the Equality Act—critically important, bipartisan legislation that would finally provide clear protections against discrimination for LGBTQ people across the country," HRC said in a Tuesday release.

House Democrats introduced the Equality Act in March. It would strike down religious freedom protections for private citizens if they exercised their consciences in running their own businesses. It is designed to trump Religious Freedom Restoration Acts at the state and federal level, according to critics. Greg Baylor, director of the Center for Religious Schools at the non-profit Alliance Defending Freedom, said he agrees that "our laws should respect the constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of every citizen," but said the legislation "fails to meet this basic standard."

"This federal law would force Americans to participate in events and speak messages that violate their core beliefs," he said. "We should reject laws that single out and punish citizens on the basis of their peacefully expressed beliefs."

The Buttigieg campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

ADF, a pro-bono law firm, specializes in religious liberty cases. In June, it won a victory in the Supreme Court defending the rights of Masterpiece Cakeshop proprietor Jack Phillips. The Colorado-based baker had been dragged before state authorities for discrimination because he refused to customize a cake for a gay wedding ceremony, though he did offer to supply several standard cakes on display to the couple. The 7-2 decision found that the state improperly punished Phillips.

"Like similar state and local laws that have been used to prosecute cake artist Jack Phillips and florist Barronelle Stutzman, this federal law would force Americans to participate in events and speak messages that violate their core beliefs," Baylor said. "Tolerance and respect for good-faith differences of opinion are essential in a diverse society like ours."

The Bank of Japan Is Now A Top-10 Shareholder In 50% Of All Japanese Companies

While traders continue to obsess over daily "China trade deal optimism" headlines, Japan's central bank is quietly nationalizing its entire market.

The last time we looked at how much of the stock market the Bank of Japan controls, we found that Kuroda's central bank owned a stunning 75% of all Japanese ETFs as the central bank keeps buying stocks under its ultraloose monetary policy. Perhaps more importantly, as of March 2018, the Japanese central bank has also become a major shareholder in nearly 40% of listed companies. According to Nikkei calculations at the time, the bank was one of the top 10 shareholders in 1,446 listed companies out of 3,735.

Fast forward to today, when according to the latest BOJ holdings update following even more ETF purchases, the BOJ held over 28 trillion yen ($250 billion) in ETFs as at the end of March, or 4.7% of the total market capitalization of the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. This, of course, in addition to the BOJ's trillions in Japanese JGB holdings, which at last check were over 100% of GDP and 43% of all outstanding.

It gets better. According to the latestNikkei calculations, not only has the BOJ also become the top shareholder in 23 companies, including Nidec, Fanuc and Omron, through its ETF holdings, but as of Q1, it was among the top 10 holders for 49.7% of all Tokyo-listed enterprises.

In other words, the BOJ has gone from being a Top 10 holder in 40% Japanese stocks last March, to 50% just one year later.

But wait, there's more: as the Nikkei further calculates, the Bank of Japan will overtake a state-run pension fund - the world's largest - as the top shareholder in Tokyo-listed companies as early as 2020, even as concerns rise regarding the central bank's outsize role in the nation's capital market. Assuming that the bank maintains its current target of 6 trillion yen (just over $53BN at prevailing rates) in new purchases a year, its holdings would expand to about 40 trillion yen by the end of November 2020. This would place it above the Government Pension Investment Fund's TSE first-section holdings of more than 6%.

In other words, Japan's central bank will soon be the biggest individual owner of Japanese stocks. Somewhere, Brezhnev is spinning in his grave.

As the Nikkei poetically puts it, "Japan's capital market used to be characterized by a complex web of cross-shareholdings, with banks and insurers playing the leading role over retail investors. This was followed by a period when foreign investors rapidly expanded their presence." Now, the BOJ is ushering in a new age for the Japanese market: the age of creeping nationalization, where a monetary authority is becoming the biggest owner of corporate assets using money printed out of thin air to fund the purchases.

The central bank is snapping up stocks - both domestically and internationally - to "keep the market stable" and raise inflation toward its 2% goal. "We will support forward-looking economic activity by companies and households," BOJ Gov. Haruhiko Kuroda told lawmakers Tuesday.

Benjamin is the latest conservative who is being punished by the tech giants for his political beliefs.

In 2017 UConn canceled a gig by Benjamin when he challenged putting trans identified children as young as 8 on hormone blockers.

On Tuesday he was blocked by PayPal.

War Versus Peace: Israel Has Decided and So Should We

Netanyahu and his future government coalition of like-minded extremists are now armed with an unmistakably popular mandate to fulfill all of their electoral promises, including the annexation of the West Bank.

So, what have we learned from the Israeli legislative elections on April 9?

A whole lot.

To start with, don’t let such references as the “tight race” between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and his main rival, Benny Gantz, fool you.

Yes, Israelis are divided on some issues that are particular to their social and economic makeup. But they are also resolutely unified around the issue that should concern us most: the continued subjugation of the Palestinian people.

Indeed, ‘tight race’, or not, Israel has voted to cement Apartheid, support the ongoing annexation of the Occupied West Bank, and carry on with the Gaza siege.

In the aftermath of the elections, Netanyahu emerged even more powerful; his Likud party has won the elections with 36 seats, followed by Gantz’s Kahol Lavan (Blue and White) with 35 seats.

Gantz, the rising star in Israeli politics was branded throughout the campaign as a centrist politician, a designation that tossed a lifeline to the vanquished Israeli ‘left’ – of which not much is left anyway.

This branding helped sustain a short-lived illusion that there is an Israeli alternative to Netanyahu’s extremist right-wing camp.

But there was never any evidence to suggest that Gantz would have been any better as far as ending the Israeli occupation, dismantling the Apartheid regime and parting ways with the country’s predominantly racist discourse.

In fact, the opposite is true.

Gantz has repeatedly criticized Netanyahu for supposedly being too soft on Gaza, promising to rain yet more death and destruction on an a region that, according to the United Nations, will be unlivable by 2020.

A series of videos, dubbed “Only the Strong Survives”, were issued by the Gantz campaign in the run up to the elections. In the footage, Gantz was portrayed as the national savior, who had killed many Palestinians while serving as the army’s chief of staff between 2011 and 2015.

Gantz is particularly proud of being partly responsible for bombing Gaza “back to the stone age.”

Meet the Arab-Israeli alliances’ new Knesset members

Here are the ten new Knesset members who will be fighting for Palestinian citizens of Israel in the upcoming parliament.

On 9 April, Israeli citizens went to the polls to elect the country’s 21st Knesset. Though incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came out on top, his Likud party winning 36 seats, new faces and veteran politicians alike will soon form a new ruling coalition and opposition.

Sitting among the opposition will be the predominantly Arab-Israeli alliances Hadash-Ta’al and Ra’am-Balad, the offshoots of the now-defunct Joint List. Hadash-Ta’al won six seats in the election while Ra’am-Balad won four, giving the alliances a combined total of ten Knesset seats. The alliances are expected to work together to advance the interests of Israel’s some 1.8 million Palestinian citizens, which are frequently denied equal access to resources, education and housing.

They also plan to combat the Nation-State Law, which in July declared Israel the “national home of the Jewish people” and deprived Palestinian citizens of their right to national self-determination.

Here are the ten new Knesset members from Hadash-Ta’al and Ra’am-Balad who will be fighting for Palestinian citizens of Israel in the upcoming parliament.

At Least 28 Dead After Tourist Bus Crashes in Portugal's Madeira

According to the Lusa news agency, a tourist bus crashed on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

The agency reported that many people have been injured and there's a number of fatalities, while several ambulances are currently on the scene.

"There are fatalities but information on the number of victims is still not certain," Lusa quoted local mayor Filipe Sousa as saying.

Later, Lusa news agency and other media reported, quoting a local politician that twenty-eight people died the accident. According to the Diario de Noticias newspaper, the list of the victims includes 11 men and 17 women. The driver and the guide, both Portuguese citizens, were reportedly injured in the accident.

The incident occurred in the Santa Cruz district at about 6:30 p.m. local times (17:30 GMT). Causes of the incident remain unknown. According to several media reports, the majority of victims in the accident were Germans.
