I once read that all major skyscrapers in big cities have controlled demolition already set up in case of emergencies. Such as if the building becomes unsafe how are you going to be able to rig it to blow if it's already too late. I read that there were tunnels under all the WTC's and that there was a small nuke to be used to demolish said buildings if it ever came down to it. This was part of the reason WTC 7 had to go because it was the entrance to the tunnels and was sort of the central hub where they would move these minecarts of sorts to whatever tower was needed. I will try to locate this and sauce it.
I wish. It was a post somewhere of a person claiming that their uncle was a code inspector or some type of building authority for NY at the time these tunnels were built or the buildings were built and that there was another set of blueprints that detailed all this. Again, I will try to locate said post for more details.
The theory would be that, while being pre-wired to blow there are other things that must be done to ensure a clean demolition. Like weakening supports by drilling holes and etc. That might be what those "Israeli Art Students" were up to. If it's an open secret that major skyscrapers are pre-wired to blow for safety, then you just need a small crew to come in and do the weakening when required.
Considering that there were many high value things in the World Trade Centers, gold vaults, and allegedly government investigation agencies and such. It wouldn't be crazy to assume some sort of scorched earth approach in case of US soil invasion by an enemy.
