it's a roughly potato shaped ellipsoid, but you're forgiven.
It only looks clean from space because of the water vapor in the atmosphere that clings to the potato through the dynamo effect produced by spinning the iron core really fast.
IE- It's electric, boogie woogie woogie.
That's why Mars is (now) a dead world. the dynamo stopped.
Even the moon has an atmosphere, albeit a tenuous one.
