Note to Betsy DeVos:

There are only three things that a high school graduate NEEDs to know:

  1. Philosophy - the basics of morality and by extension God

  2. Civics - the law of the land and how to function in society

  3. Household economics - how to balance a checkbook, pay bills and maintain a good credit rating

Beyond that, everything is elective based on the students interests and aptitudes.

One thing I've learned about employers is that they are very narrow minded. If a company uses green hammers and a candidate comes with experience in orange hammers, well that candidate just doesn't fit.

If students were allowed a more fluid and flexible curriculum, then perhaps employers would understand that skills are transferable.

Because the House Dems wanted to have their legal staff, their hired underlings, initiate the line of questioning rather than the legislators doing so themselves. This is not a standard way of operating and was not supported by the Republican members.
