Every company does that.
My dad worked at Kodak years ago & would always bring home boxes of cameras, film & anything else he could grab before they turned on the incinerators.
They did it when a box was damaged(didn't matter if the camera was fine or not)
Or when they needed to dump something they decided not to market. Even after they made a shit ton. Example, was a disk camera. We had so many of them. They sucked.
