DHS continues to extort participation in REAL-ID database
If there is one truth hiding in the forest of DHS lies about the REAL-ID Act of 2005, it’s that the DHS doesn’t want to cause riots at airports by subjecting residents of disfavored states to more intrusive searches and “ID verification” interrogation when they travel by air.
The goal of the REAL-ID Act is to intimidate states into adding their residents drivers’ license and state ID data to the SPEXS national ID database, through threats to harass residents of states and territories that aren’t sufficiently compliant.
Like any extortionist, the DHS wants its victims to submit, and doesn’t really want (and may not even be prepared) to carry out its threats.
But what will the DHS do when its bluff is called by states or territories that are either unwilling or unable to comply?
Today, April Fools Day, we’re seeing the latest test of the answer to this question, with the US Virgin Islands as the target of DHS threats.
In almost all cases to date, the DHS has backed down, by exercising its standardless discretion under the REAL-ID regulations either to certify that states are “compliant” even when they don’t comply with the statutory criteria in the REAL-ID Act, or to grant extensions of time to comply.

Students jump off roof in horrific India center fire, at least 18 confirmed dead (VIDEOS)
At least 18 students died after a huge fire broke out on the top floor of a building housing a coaching center in the western Indian city of Surat, local media reported. Some were forced to jump several stories to flee the blaze.
The fire broke out at the coaching center on Friday afternoon. The exact number of people, who were trapped at the building is unclear, yet at least 120 students were registered for the class, according to local media.

The building did not have fire exits, while its fourth floor of the Takshashila Arcade center, where the coaching class has been held, was an illegal addition altogether, a local lawmaker told NDTV.

Joe Biden Reportedly Involved in Controversial Early Stages of 2016 Russia Probe
NEW YORK — Former Vice President Joe Biden was reportedly one of the few Obama administration officials who participated in secretive meetings during the early stages of the Obama-era intelligence community’s initial operations regarding suspected Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.
That tidbit was contained deep inside a 7,700-plus word Washington Post article published June 23, 2017 in which the newspaper also detailed the highly compartmentalized nature of the original Russia interference investigation and the manner in which other U.S. intelligence agencies were deliberately kept in the dark. Part of the efforts eventually involved unsubstantiated and ultimately discredited charges made by the Christopher Steele dossier that Trump campaign officials were colluding with Russia.
Biden’s largely unreported role in the initial Obama administration meetings on the matter of Russian interference could spark further questions now that Attorney General William Barr has appointed a U.S. attorney to investigate the origins of the Russia collusion claims.
Only last week, Barr commented that the intelligence community’s early handling of the Russia investigation may itself raise questions. He noted that it was first handled at a “very senior level” and then by a “small group.”

Shanahan to meet Chinese counterpart in Singapore: U.S. official
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan will meet China's defense minister on the sidelines of an Asia defense forum in Singapore, a senior U.S. defense official said on Friday, at a time of strained tensions between Beijing and Washington over trade and security.
"We're doing a pull aside with the Chinese counterpart at Shangri-La," said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe will deliver a speech on June 2 at the Shangri-La Dialogue, the first time since 2011 that a Chinese defense minister will be at the forum, having in recent years sent lower level officials.

Ted Cruz issues the ultimate challenge to 'young socialists' (VIDEO)
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), during an exclusive interview with Campus Reform, issued quite the challenge to young socialists while addressing the topic of free speech and intellectual diversity on college campuses.
Campus Reform Editor-in-Chief Lawrence Jones sat down with the Texas Republican on Tuesday in Cruz's Washington, D.C. office to ask him, among other things, about a recent report that found that 41 percent of college students do not think hate speech should be protected under the First Amendment, a poll on which Campus Reform previously reported.
Cruz responded to the report, saying that he's not surprised by its findings.
"Unfortunately, students…they're not being taught to think," Cruz said. "What's defined as hate speech, by the way, is anything the Left disagrees with. The First Amendment wasn't designed for popular speech. You actually don't need the First Amendment if what you're saying is popular. The First Amendment was designed to protect unpopular speech, to protect minority views, to protect views that are not in common agreement. And particularly the whole point about a college experience is learning to confront views you've never seen before."
The Texas senator continued by recalling how, in his own college experience, he took classes with "Marxist" professors because he said he wanted to know how they thought. Cruz contrasted that experience with the approach taken by today's young socialists.
"How about you actually engage with the fact that socialism has produced poverty and misery and suffering for billions across the globe…"

Trump’s Presidency Linked To Decline In Racial Prejudice
White Americans have become less racist since President Trump took office, according to a study of racial prejudice that spans the Obama administration and the beginning of Trump’s presidency.
University of Pennsylvania researchers first surveyed a group of 20,000 white Americans on racial bias in 2007, then followed up with a subset of them eight times over the course of about 12 years, most recently in November 2018. Their prejudice was assessed based on the credence they gave to racial stereotypes. Researchers hypothesized that Trump’s race rhetoric would show an increase in prejudice, but the results actually showed a marked decline compared to the Obama years.

Fmr. Navy SEAL and Gov. Eric Greitens to reactivate and deploy to Middle East
Former Navy SEAL and Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens will be deploying with the U.S. Navy this fall, according to a new report on Wednesday.
Sources told The Kansas City Star that Greitens has revealed to friends and supporters that he will deploy to the Middle East later this year, resuming his active duty Navy status, though not as a SEAL.
He has been on inactive status with the Navy’s Standby Reserve since 2017 when he was elected as governor. The status enabled him to keep his commission, but paused his pay, promotion eligibility and time served accruement toward retirement.
Greitens, 45, resigned as governor last year amid a scandal and charges stemming from an affair.
In April 2019, he applied to move to Selected Reserves, and that application was approved.
