I've been recently considering old relics and artifacts of antiquity. If the original constitution (paper document) were the actual source of our republic's power, imbued with the very spirit of what the words of said document proclaim, and as such were a high-value item, beyond its historic significance, to be prized and targeted by enemies and thieves alike, might we put a convincing copy (a cheap xerox) in its place, on display at the National Archives just to eliminate risk? It makes me wonder if that one is the real one I saw when I was there. What if the place burned to the ground or got stolen… and the real one was actually locked away in a safe somewhere else? How would they explain to the public that they had been cheated out of the experience of seeing the real Constitution when they came to see it? Would the govt/caretakers ever reveal the truth? How would the public react to disclosure if the govt "fessed up" to the imposter document? Also, would the fake document have any value over and above that of a simple piece of copier paper just for having occupied the space? Or is a copy just a copy no matter where it stood, hence just a worthless, soulless piece of shit?

totally agree with this assessment.
