Look at what happened with Ross Perot. All he did was ensure Clinton was elected by running a powerful independent campaign. He split the right and ensured a left victory. It could be argued that he worked for the Clintons but IDK.
Yeah… we COULD all act that way but this is not about individuals, it is about STATISTICS. You have to actually do what I said and learn about how a "Winner-Takes-All" system differs from a parlimentary system like you see in places like Europe.
One feature of our gov is that it is VERY hard to make change. Now this is good because it leaves the gov mostly deadlocked in useless actions that don't change anything. If it weren't for this sytem it would have taken like 30 years to destroy this nation as opposed to over 200 years. An excellent example is the EU. That parlimentary system (which is what you are asking for) allows small parties like the green party to get a tiny foot-hold then swell to enormous size quickly once they have power. Why do you think the EU is moving quicker towards globalism and the US has been more resistant?
YOu can also learn more about this by studying Comparative Politics. It is a good time and there is a shitload of info about it online. Take the time to understand how these systems work and you will then understand more about why things are the way they are.

For instance.. lets say I am a Texas cattle farmer and I am voting on something that will affect salmon fisheries in AK. Now I can simply chose something or I can give that power to a representative of an organization in AK who supports Salmon Fisherman giving them a larger voice. If something comes up regarding rural land in TX though… Well, I want to directly deal with that.

TBH I like the raw and literal Constitution of these united States (look at those caps carefully)… I feel if we went back to 1776-tier organization with all the sewage flushed out (return to allodial title land ownership and a gold/silver standard and no income taxes and NO STANDING ARMIES) and some modern updates for things like personal information privacy, use, control, etc. we would be looking at a functional system. The system built by the framers if fucking BRILLIANT, parties or not. The reason you are not thinking this is because what we all know and understand and have lived our lives under has NOTHING AT ALL to do with that system. It is completely unrelated and corrupted. It is nothing but the color of constututional government as opposed to an ACTUAL constitutional republic. I wish I was smarter and could lay this out better for ya.

Definitely run for office but think about the underlying organization and understand that nowhere in the Constitution does it lay out political parties… They sprung forth from the underlying structure of the system.
