The captain of an Iranian-operated supertanker that has been seized by the UK says British marines used excessive force while detaining the vessel in the Strait of Gibraltar off Spain.

Speaking anonymously to the BBC on Tuesday, the captain, an Indian national, said he received a radio call for police to board his ship and that he lowered the ladder at the time of the incident on July 4.

But instead of police boarding, he said, a military helicopter landed on the ship in “a very dangerous move,” and about 30 marines disembarked.

He said the marines then acted aggressively even though the crew was unarmed.

“How do you come on a ship like this with armed forces and such brute force? For what reason?” he said.

P&G posts strong profit amid $8 billion writedown of Gillette

However, P&G reported a net loss of about $5.24 billion, or $2.12 per share, for the quarter ended June 30, due to an $8 billion non-cash writedown of Gillette. For the same period last year, P&G’s net income was $1.89 billion, or 72 cents per share.

Iran: Inflation and corruption are two sides of the same coin

Iran, July 29, 2019 - While Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani expressed his optimism for Iran’s economy in a cabinet meeting on July 23 and his first deputy, Eshaq Jahangiri, claimed that the mullahs have overcome the economic crisis and reached the shores of stability, Iranian media announced the next day that inflation has crossed the 40 percent threshold.

Iranian state-run media reported on July 24 that inflation is 40.4 percent. “The government is the main culprit for increasing prices because by changing the price of the U.S. dollars that are used to import meat from 42,000 rials to more than 80,000 rials, they’ve created the conditions for increasing prices in the market,” they wrote citing Tehran’s pundits.

Mohammad Gholi Youssefi, an Iranian economic pundit close to the regime, says “the government’s aimlessness in organizing the country’s economy… has put us in a crisis riddled situation and implementing any decision is rendered very difficult and results in negative consequences.”

“Managerial inefficiencies and the inability of officials and concerned people to organize the country’s economic situation has led to an increase in poverty across the country. Economic pressure on the people is mounting every day,” he further said.

That parlimentary system (which is what you are asking for) allows small parties like the green party to get a tiny foot-hold then swell to enormous size quickly once they have power. Why do you think the EU is moving quicker towards globalism and the US has been more resistant?

Jury Finds Katy Perry Guilty of Copying Christian Rap Song

On Monday, a jury found that Perry’s 2013 hit “Dark Horse” had poached the beat from a 2009 faith-based song performed by Marcus Gray, or “Flame,” called “Joyful Noise.”

The jury took two full days of deliberation to reach their verdict, finding all six songwriters and all four corporations involved in releasing and distributing the songs guilty of copyright infringement.

Gray’s attorneys argued that the beat structure and notes used in the opening segment of “Joyful Noise” were almost identical to the baseline track used by Perry.

“Defendants never sought or obtained permission from plaintiffs to use the ‘Joyful Noise’ song in creating, reproducing, recording, distributing, selling, or publicly performing defendants’ song,” read Flame’s complaint.

“Plaintiffs never gave any of the defendants’ permission, consent, or a license to use ‘Joyful Noise’ for any purpose, including creation of a derivative work based on ‘Joyful Noise.'”

Earlier in the trial, musicologist Todd Decker identified “five or six points of similarity” between the two tracks.

“Dark Horse” enjoyed four weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, with Perry performing the hit during the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show.

The six-person jury, however, disagreed, despite Perry’s pleas that neither she nor the other songwriters had ever heard “Joyful Noise” and did not listen to Christian music.

Following the verdict, the case will now go to the penalty phase, during which the jury will decide how much Perry and her co-defendants will be ordered to pay Gray and his fellow songwriters for the copyright infringement.

ENTEBBE, Uganda—The government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is selling off his country’s gold reserves. Some of it has passed through a secretive operation in East Africa, a gambit that evades U.S. sanctions.

On two early-March flights, at least 7.4 tons of gold with a market value over $300 million moved from Venezuela to a refinery in Uganda, say officials in Venezuela and Uganda, a foreign diplomat and Venezuelan opposition lawmakers, who have concluded Mr. Maduro’s government exported the ingots.

The gold arrived on a Russian charter jetliner in two shipments at the international airport in Entebbe, says Ugandan national-police spokesman Fred Enanga. The accompanying paperwork identified the ingots, some with stamped labels partially scratched off, as Venezuelan central-bank property, says a senior Ugandan police officer who saw the bars and documents. Flight records show the trips originated in Caracas, Venezuela.

"A former Amazon systems engineer working for Capital One is said to be the woman behind a breach that accessed the data of over 100 million people.

Software engineer Paige Thompson, 33, allegedly boasted about the hack and left crumbs for investigators to follow, The New York Times reported. Thompson formerly worked for Amazon Web Services, which hosted the Capital One database that was breached.

“I’ve basically strapped myself with a bomb vest,” Ms. Thompson wrote in a Slack post, according to prosecutors, “dropping capital ones dox and admitting it,” the NYT said.

The F.B.I. noticed her activity on a Meetup she organizes called Seattle Warez Kiddies, which is for people into “hacking, cracking.” This led a GitHub post and to the incriminating Slack message and Tweet. Online, she used the name “erratic.”

Court documents filed with Seattle’s District Court state that Thompson appeared to brag about the information she had accessed related to Capital One. The documents said Thompson accessed the data through a “misconfiguration” of a firewall on a web application."

Still waiting on dept. of education to find a place to rebuild schools. The communities were decimated and left to fend for themselves, with the help of mostly volunteers from around the country. US Plans to Build Additional Military Infrastructure in Australia - Minister

The US and Australia have been stepping up their military presence across the Western Pacific amid fears that China would gain more influence in the South China Sea which is a strategic passageway rich in natural resources.

The US plans to build additional military infrastructure in Australia once Congress approves a $211.5 million budget for the US Navy, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne told Sky News on Tuesday.

Payne did not elaborate on what exactly the US was planning to build. However, Australian media reported earlier this month that the plans were for a new port facility near Darwin in the north of the country.

Under the Force Posture Initiatives, signed between the two countries in 2011, 2,500 US Marines train in Australia each year. They are housed in an Australian base at Darwin.

At the same time, media reports say, China's Landbridge Group secured a 99-year lease on the Port of Darwin in 2015.
