Many churches and denominations can only survive if they contract with the Feds to run social programs out of their facilities. Lutherans, Catholics, especially.
They cannot bring any of their beliefs into their work with whomever - refugees, the poor, etc.
So they cannot make a case for "ministering" to their new patrons/clients.
But they make a ton, plus get commodities donated, to do this work. Otherwise, with aging parishioners, they would likely go out of business.
