Rich people buy yachts as status symbols. Many take their first voyage and discover they are susceptible to violent sea sickness or bored by the slow pace of travel.
However no yacht of that size ever depreciates that much unless there is serious structural or mechanical problems. Usually a well cared for yacht will only lose about 10% of its value.
