With CRISPR technology, we will be able to conduct experiments to see if a particular combination of on-or-off genes can stop or even reverse the progress of a disease. The end game? Insights that generate new drugs, vaccines or diagnostic tests targeting the root cause of a disease.

"We wish them well and are praying for their safety," Little said.

ALCOA, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee National Guard said Friday that Governor Bill Lee visited with more than 20 Tennessee Army National Guard soldiers Friday at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base ahead of their deployment overseas.
Gov. Lee was also accompanied by Tennessee’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Jeff Holmes to see the deploying soldiers.
The soldiers are from C Company’s Detachment 1 and D Company’s Detachment 3 of the 2-135th Aviation Regiment headquartered in Louisville, Tenn., National Guard officials said, and they will be departing for a 10-month deployment to Kosovo in the coming weeks.
The soldiers are part of a NATO-led international peacekeeping force known as Kosovo Force (KFOR) that has been serving in the region since 1999.
“On behalf of 6.7 million Tennesseans we are forever grateful for your service and sacrifices that you and your families are willing to make for our great state. Thank you for protecting our country, our way of living, our freedom and our liberties that we enjoy every day.” said Lee. “Maria and I will keep you and your families in our daily prayers.”

4,000 Idaho Army National Guard soldiers headed to Germany
The governor has denied that the mobilization had anything to do with rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
BOISE, Idaho — More than 4,000 Idaho Army National Guard soldiers will be sent to Germany in the coming months, Idaho Gov. Brad Little announced Monday.
The soldiers will mobilize "in support of a large-scale exercise to demonstrate U.S. military readiness," Little said. The soldiers are set to leave in the spring.
In addition, 400 airmen from the Idaho Air National Guard's 124th Fighter Wing will be deployed to Southeast Asia "in support of combat operations," the governor said, although they are not expected to be directly involved in combat.
"The one is training, the other one is in support of military operations: A lot of times, our guard, that's what they get called [for,] is to do support," Little said. "But sometimes they're in the fray."
The governor denied that the military movements had anything to do with rising tensions between the United States and Iran, which flared after the U.S. killed Iran's high-level military commander, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, with an airstrike Jan. 2.
Iran has promised "harsh revenge" on America, and the U.S. is preparing for the possibility of a "major" attack of some type, possibly against an American military commander, according to the Associated Press.
But Little said the mobilization to Germany had already been planned for some time.
"This was actually in the queue - this is the military's message in NATO that we can do big stuff over there, so we're going to be a part of it," he said.
An exact date for the deployments has not been released.
"We wish them well and pray for their safety," Little said.
