Not true. Everyone is equal, but some people have more responsibility, sober time, and thus respect. This responsibility is organized by locale, region, area, state, country…. in a hierarchy of sorts.
During the Obama years when jobs were hard to find, I often thought about reconnecting with AA to make connections. Never did, but it was on the table.
4th step is the blackmail material. There are rules against sharing that kind of material, but when people start to drift away from the group, it's amazing the how fast the rumors start to circulate. People disappear and then you hear that they were pedos or rapists…
A lot of people blame their pedophilia on alcoholism.
AA focuses very heavily on meditation now.
There is a current of thought that what you do to stay sober today won't be enough tomorrow.
Many members feel compelled to delve more and more deeply into the spiritual the longer they remain in the program.

AA is mostly good, but not perfect. Depends on where you go and who you meet.
