Ranbaxy (Indian pharma manufacturer) was found guilty in the biggest generic drug scandal in history. They pleaded guilty and were fined $500 million:

They peddled fake Aids drugs to the Clinton Health Access Initiative – the drugs they submitted for testing were crushed-up samples of the original drugs from legit manufacturers.
One reason the scam got uncovered was that Ranbaxy execs got scared of travelling across borders carrying large supplies of original drugs (which they used to make fake samples). This is highly illegal behavior. An American female medical doctor who worked for Ranbaxy, said she was amazed at first to find how closely the generics matched the originals, until she realised the scam. She also quoted a Ranbaxy exec saying in a conference call: "Who cares? It's just blacks who're dying."

There was just one expose, in Fortune magazine. The inimitable Marcia Washburn picked the issue up during the 2016 election, so the Clintons peddling fake Aids drugs to the Third World became a "right-wing talking point". It just disappeared from the debate.
Bill Clinton himself went to India and praised Ranbaxy to the skies, just weeks before they were found guilty. He was clearly telling them, "I've got your back."
I contacted Katherine Eban, author of the Fortune story, begging her to go public with the details in 2016. She said she was writing a book about it, but nothing has emerged. I am sure she was covering up for the Clintons.
These fake drugs were paid for through the Global Fund, which added a charge to all European air travellers. So they could pour millions of dollars into the pockets of Ranbaxy, so that fake drugs with bits of glass and hair in them could be sent to the Third World.
One of the very worst Clinton scandals, and this was entirely Bill's game – he went out of his way to make sure that Ranbaxy could produce these generics legally. Chai refused to comment when I queried them. The US State Dept (which funded these drugs through Pepfar) refused to comment, just saying – there was an article about it, what more do we need to say.
