It is likely how these unenlightened vampires access higher consciousnesses, perhaps inter dimensional travel or communications. Basically seems like they comped the space program and used the money to build the matrix instead. It harvests the chemicals they need.

Also, this theory does not take into account the 3, 6, and 9. There is much more than the observable (to our eyes) physical structure of the molecules. Synthesized compounds are not the same or incomplete, at least in my experience.
