US President Donald Trump set a presidential record for activity on his favourite social media platform Wednesday, tweeting and retweeting more than 140 times about the Senate impeachment trial, the Democrats who want to replace him and much, much more.
By 4:25pm (Eastern Time), Trump had barrelled through his previous record of 123 Twitter postings in a day that he set a little over a month ago, according to Factba.se, a service that compiles and analyses data on Trump’s presidency.

Angola’s billionaire former first daughter Isabel dos Santos has been charged with money laundering and mismanagement during her stewardship of state-owned oil firm Sonangol, as Luanda moves to try and bring her home to face trial for looting the country’s coffers.
Documents leaked this week alleged the daughter of ex-president Jose Eduardo dos Santos plundered state revenues to build her fortune, estimated at US$2.1 billion.
“Isabel dos Santos is accused of mismanagement and embezzlement of funds during her tenure at Sonangol and is thus charged in the first instance with the crimes of money laundering, influence peddling, harmful management … forgery of documents, among other economic crimes,” prosecutor general Helder Pitta Gros told a news conference late Wednesday.

China rapidly locks down 4 new cities over deadly coronavirus – more people than Florida
Authorities in China have expanded quarantine orders to stop the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.
Quarantine orders have now restricted travel from five Chinese cities, affecting tens of millions of people, according to the New York Times. Thus far at least 17 people people have been killed and more than 570 cases of coronavirus have emerged.
On Thursday China’s National Health Commission (NHC) called for a quarantine of the city of Wuhan, where the virus first appeared. That initial quarantine order affected a city of more than 11 million people.
Later that evening, the quarantine order was expanded to include the nearby city of Huanggang, where 7.5 million people reside. Rail stations were also closed down at the nearby city of Ezhou, affecting a city with more than million residents. Travel restrictions were also placed on the smaller cities of Chibi and Zhijiang where around half a million people live in each city.

UKansas professor indicted for working for Communist Party of China
A professor at the University of Kansas has been charged wth fraud for surreptitious collaboration with the Chinese government.
Feng Tao allegedly ran a "scheme" wherein he allegedly planned to transfer "intellectual property."
Associate professor and researcher at the University of Kansas, Feng Tao, has been charged with two counts of wire fraud and one count of program fraud for not disclosing his work with China. He was allegedly involved in a "scheme" to transfer "intellectual property" from American universities to Chinese universities.
The 16-page superseding indictment filed by the U.S. District Court explains that Tao joined the Changjang Professorship in 2018 which is a “talent program sponsored by the PRC Government and the CPC” or Communist Party of China. The People’s Republic of China is offering these “talent plans” to students and professors in the United States to “encourage the transfer of original ideas and intellectual property from U.S. universities to PRC Government institutions.
Although Tao was selected for the Changjang Scholarship and a full-time appointment to Fuzhou University in China, he did not inform KU of this commitment regardless of the Kansas Board of Regents’ policy that the University must be notified of outside employment. The indictment states that Tao “did not disclose any financial award accompanying his selection for the Changjiang Scholarship or salary for his appointment to FZU."

Fox News host Laura Ingraham reported Wednesday evening that she obtained a chain of State Department emails stemming from a standard request for comment from New York Times journalist Ken Vogel, whose reporting helped generate scrutiny of Hunter Biden's ties to Ukrainian gas company Burisma. Hunter Biden, 49, is the son of Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden, and Republicans have called for him to testify during the Ukraine-related Senate impeachment trial against President Trump.
On May 1, 2019, Vogel contacted State Department official Kate Schilling about a story he was working on regarding an Obama administration meeting in January 2016 with Ukrainian prosecutors and mentioned the name of the CIA analyst believed to be the whistleblower whose complaint sparked impeachment proceedings that led to two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
Ingraham did not state the name of the alleged whistleblower — Fox News hosts are banned from doing so until the identity is confirmed — and blacked out the name when showing excerpts of documents. However, she likely was referring to Eric Ciaramella, who some Republicans and conservative media figures believe is the whistleblower.

Putin proposes 2020 summit with leaders of Russia, France, China, U.S. and UK
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday proposed holding a summit between the leaders of Russia, China, the United States, France and Britain in 2020 to discuss the conflict in Libya and other global problems.
Putin, who was speaking during a trip to Israel, said Moscow was ready for a “serious conversation” with the permanent members of the UN Security Council, that there was much to discuss and that the summit could happen anywhere in the world.
“In any country, at any point of the world that is convenient for our colleagues. Russia is ready for this kind of serious conversation,” he said.
“There are many tasks before us. We discussed one of them very recently in Berlin…That is Libya. And we need to return to this problem at the Security Council and adopt the corresponding resolution,” he said.

A deadly coronavirus, called the Wuhan virus based on the Chinese city it emanated from, has spread to the United States with a man in his 30s being declared patient zero in Washington state.
The patient came back to the U.S. from Wuhan, China on Jan. 15. He was displaying no symptoms at the time, according to the local and federal officials who made the public announcement, but became sick the days after he initially returned.
Dr. Scott Lindquist, who works as Washington’s state epidemiologist for communicable diseases, said the patient is in stable condition but is still being isolated in a hospital “out of an abundance of precaution and monitoring.” Passengers at several airports are going to be screened for the virus moving forward in an attempt to prevent its spread. Six people have already been reported dead worldwide from the coronavirus that can cause pneumonia.

Grassley Expands Probe Of Stefan Halper’s Pentagon Contracts
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said Wednesday he is expanding his probe of Department of Defense contracts awarded to Stefan Halper, a former professor who was a confidential source for the FBI in its investigation of Trump campaign associates.
The Iowa Republican said he is investigating the Office of Net Assessment’s (ONA) contract compliance after he reviewed “troubling documents” related to Halper’s contracts.
“Those documents call into question ONA’s stewardship of taxpayer dollars as well as its contract management and internal controls,” said Grassley, who also sent a letter to ONA Director James Baker.

Chinese national arrested for smuggling Harvard cancer research in a sock
A medical student at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Teaching Hospital was arrested after attempting to smuggle 21 vials of cancer cells out of the country in a sock.
Zhaosong Zheng was set to board a flight from Boston to Beijing, China when authorities questioned him about the vials of brown material in his checked bag. Zheng ultimately admitted that he had stolen the material in order to publish the research under his own name in China.
“I believe, based on my training and experience, that Zheng’s appointment at (Beth Israel) was not an accident, and that he was knowingly gathering and collecting intellectual property from BIDMC, possibly on behalf of the Chinese government."
Zheng, who was on a visa sponsored by Harvard University, was then arrested.

Three US firefighters died while battling wildfires in Australia when the C-130 tanker they were flying in crashed in the southern section of the country, officials said Thursday.
The firefighters were killed in the crash after leaving the town of Richmond in New South Wales state on a firebombing mission, local officials said.
