Deputy Counsel Purpura Explains the 6 Key Facts of the Impeachment Case

White House Deputy Counsel Mike Purpura came out swinging on Saturday during the defense's response to the House Democrats' charges of impeachment against President Donald Trump. The defense team argues the Democrats repeatedly cherry-picked various witness testimonies and only included parts of testimony they felt fit their narrative. According to Purpura, there are six key facts that "have not and will not change."

1. The transcript proves President Trump didn't condition military aid or a meeting on anything. "The paused security assistance funds aren't even mentioned on the call," Purpura said.

2. Ukrainian officials said they never felt pressured into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden or his son, Hunter, for corruption. They also said quid pro quo never took place.

3. President Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials were unaware of the paused military aide. "The security assistance was paused until the end of August, over a month after the July 25th call," Purpura said.

4. None of the Democrats' witnesses say President Trump tied an investigation into the Bidens to the military aid or a meeting.

5. "The security assistance flowed on September 11th and a presidential meeting took place on September 25, without the Ukrainian government announcing any investigation," Purpura said.

6. President Trump has been a strong supporter of Ukraine.

"The Democrats' blind eye to impeach the president does not and cannot change the fact, as attested to by the Democrats' own witnesses, that President Trump has been a better friend and supporter of Ukraine than his predecessor," Purpura explained. "Those are the facts." Isn't it convenient that the Democrats left out these tidbits?

Reminder: Trump Had Every Reason to Second Guess Intelligence Agencies' Foreign Policy Recommendations

One of the narratives the Democrats have regurgitated over and over during the entire impeachment saga is their belief that President Donald Trump went against his intelligence agencies' advice. They argue that Trump doesn't even trust his how intelligence agencies as if he handpicked every single person in every intelligence agency. Even if Democrats disagree with the decisions the president has made, Trump's defense team on Saturday reminded senators that policy disagreements are not impeachable offenses. "In his summation on Thursday night, [impeachment] manager Schiff complained that the president chose not to go with the determination of his intelligence agencies regarding foreign interference and, instead, decided he would listen to people that he trusted and would inquire about the Ukraine issue himself," Jay Sekulow said on the Senate floor. "Mr. Schiff did not like the fact that the president did not apparently blindly trust some of the advice he was being given by the intelligence agencies."

"First of all, let me be clear: disagreeing with the president's decision on foreign policy matters or whose advice he's going to take is in no way an impeachable offense," Sekulow said.

As Katie pointed out during a segment on Fox, President Trump had no reason to trust the intelligence agencies. Schiff made the argument that Trump failed to listen to the various intelligence agencies less than 24 hours after it was determined that the FISA warrants that were issued against former Trump campaign aide Carter Page were invalid. The FBI repeatedly falsified and omitted information in order to get a FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign. Knowing this, why would President Trump believe every single piece of so-called "advice" he was given?

'C'mon guys!': McCaskill dismisses GOP anger toward Schiff for pushing 'head will be on a pike' report

Former Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill dismissed outrage by some GOP senators who were offended by comments California Rep. Adam Schiff made during the president's impeachment trial. A multitude of GOP senators expressed their outrage that Schiff repeated a CBS News report citing an unnamed Trump source who said GOP senators were warned not to vote against the president during the House managers' final day of opening arguments on Friday. "CBS News reported last night that a Trump confidant said that GOP senators were warned … 'vote against the president and your head will be on a pike,'" the California Democrat said. Schiff added that he does not know if the report is true and hopes it is unfounded.

McCaskill, who now works for MSNBC, argued that Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who were both outraged at Schiff's comments, don't have room to complain as a result of the president's actions. "Come on, guys," she argued. "You know, listen, for anybody in the Republican Party to complain about overreach with President Trump in the White House, really? It just doesn’t — it — you know, as we say in the Ozarks, that dog doesn’t hunt. Here’s the reality. This president goes after you if you oppose him. That’s clear. I mean, ask Jeff Flake. Let’s call Bob Corker. How about [Mark] Sanford. How about Jeff Sessions."
