I think it's in the way they were introduced from the get go.

USAF introduced as US Army Air Corps, the broke off to form a new branch.

It was not announced as a new branch back then, it was an extension to the Army.

Just like the marines, a necessity for the Navy to be able to landfall troops for fighting, marines were extensions to the Navy, and introduced in that same manner.

Space force on the other hand, IS introduced as a separate branch from the get go.

But see the how the USAF and Marines were referred to from other branches prior to this?

Shit, even according to that graphic, it shouldn't have anything to do with USAF if it's it's own branch.
