Kobe Bryant

This seems interesting, not sure if this has been brought out yet.

Bryant was the official ambassador for After-School All-Stars (ASAS), an American non-profit organization that provides comprehensive after-school programs to children in thirteen US cities.[446] Bryant also started the Kobe Bryant China Fund which partnered with the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, a charity backed by the Chinese government.[447] The Kobe Bryant China Fund raises money within China earmarked for education and health programs.[447] On November 4, 2010, Bryant appeared alongside Zach Braff at the Call of Duty: Black Ops launch event at the Santa Monica Airport, where they presented a $1 million check to the Call of Duty Endowment, an Activision-founded nonprofit organization that helps veterans transition to civilian careers after their military service has ended.[420]

Business ventures

Bryant established Kobe Inc. to own and grow brands in the sports industry. The initial investment was a 10% stake in the Bodyarmor SuperDrink company for $6 million in March 2014. The headquarters are in Newport Beach, California.[448] With The Coca-Cola Company purchasing a minority stake in the company in August 2018, the valuation of Bryant's stake rose to approximately $200 million.[449]

On August 22, 2016, Bryant and his business partner Jeff Stibel launched Bryant-Stibel, a venture capital firm focused on different businesses including media, data, gaming, and technology, with $100 million in funding.[450][451]

In 2018, Bryant won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his film Dear Basketball.[452]

Kobe Bryant China Fund

Kobe Bryant made his way over to China for the 2008 Olympics, held in Beijing, and launched the China Fund in 2009.

The Kobe Bryant China Fund was set up to "raise money for education, sports, and culture programs for children from China and the United States".[1] "In the US, Bryant's existing fund, the Kobe Bryant Family Foundation, set up in 2006, will also work to strengthen ties between the two countries by teaching middle school students about Chinese language and culture".[1] As of 2009, the fund has "raised a total of 42 million yuan, which is equivalent to 6.15 million dollars, from various enterprises." The first donation was to the children[2] of the quake-hit Sichuan Province, and was worth five million yuan or 732,000 dollars.[3] At the charity event, for the China Fund, Bryant was presented with the Soong Ching-Ling Charity Award. Bryant said at the reception, "I am very excited to help kids be better (and), to have a better future." Kobe helped initiate the foundation, and the chairman of the China Soong Ching-Ling Foundation (CSCLF), Hu Qili, presented him with his award.[3] The CSCLF, "is a charity backed by the Chinese government which offers educational, healthcare, and sports programs to young people".[1] Many people like and admire Kobe Bryant but most NBA players do not "receive the same wild reception" as he does when he goes to China.[3] Bryant has been on billboards, reality shows, commercials, and websites both in the United States and China. "Three factors driving Bryant's popularity in China are his on-court talent, his philanthropic actions, and his appreciation of the country's culture".[4] Apart from Yao Ming, Bryant is said to have the largest fan base in China and his no.24 jersey outsells the national hero Ming.[3]

In addition to the Kobe Bryant China Fund, Bryant and business partner Jeff Stibel created Bryant Stibel in 2013. Bryant is well known for his on and off the court heroics for communities and fans around the world. Stibel has built a proven track record as a market-driven operator and entrepreneur. The duo planned to provide support in regards to strategy, finance, and operations for businesses. Bryant Stibel focuses on technology, media, and data in order to help transform businesses into more productive successful businesses. Bryant Stibel is made up of experienced executive leaders skilled in all aspects of business. The goal of the company is to provide and create tactical strategy for business transformation.

Soong Ching-ling

Rosamond Soong Ching-ling (27 January 1893 – 29 May 1981) was a Chinese political figure. As the third wife of Sun Yat-sen, one of the leaders of the 1911 revolution that established the Republic of China, she was often referred to as Madame Sun Yat-sen. She was a member of the Soong family and, together with her siblings, played a prominent role in China's politics prior to and after 1949.

During the Chinese Civil War, Soong permanently broke with her family and supported the Communists. In 1948, she became honorary chairwoman of the Revolutionary Committee of the Kuomintang, a left-wing splinter group of the KMT that claimed to be the legitimate heir of Sun's legacy.[8] With the collapse of the Nationalist government and the Communist victory in the civil war, she left Shanghai in September 1949 to attend the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), convened in Beijing by the Chinese Communist Party to establish a new Central People's Government. On 1 October, she was a guest at the ceremony in Tiananmen Square marking the birth of the new People's Republic of China. The Nationalist government issued an order for her arrest,[9] but this was soon commuted by the swift military victory of the Communists. The KMT fled from mainland China to Taiwan soon after this.

Brights movement

The Brights movement is a social movement whose members refer to themselves as Brights and have a worldview of philosophical naturalism.

Most Brights believe that public policies should be based on science (a body of knowledge obtained and tested by use of the scientific method). Brights are likely to oppose the practice of basing public policies on supernatural doctrines. Brights may therefore be described as secularists.
