1720 Plague, 1820 Cholera Outbreak, 1920 Spanish Flu, 2020 Chinese Coronavirus

The year 1720:

In 1720 there was the last pandemic of large-scale bubonic plague, also called The Great Plague of Marseille. Records show that the bacterium killed around 100,000 people in Marseille.

It is assumed that the bacterium was spread by flies infected with this bacterium.

The year 1820:

The first recordings of a cholera pandemic occurred in 1820, which took place in Asia, in the countries of Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In the year 1820, there are registered over 100,000 deaths in Asia caused by this bacterium. The pandemic is supposed to have started from people who drank water from lakes contaminated with this bacterium.

The year 1920:

The Spanish Flu took place 100 years ago, at that time people were dealing with the H1N1 flu virus that had suffered a genetic mutation making it much more dangerous than the normal virus. This virus infected 500 million people and killed over 100 million people worldwide, this pandemic was the deadliest in recorded history.

The year 2020:

It seems that history repeats itself every 100 years, is this just a coincidence?

Nowadays China is facing a pandemic of large proportions, 5 cities in China with a population of 11 million inhabitants are quarantined, completely isolated from the rest of the world.

The Media Wants You To Panic Over The Coronavirus. Don’t Fall For It. Here Are The Real Facts.

It is rather a surprise to learn that we are all going to die from a viral pandemic, considering that we have all already died from swine flu, bird flu, SARS, and that one time when four people had Ebola. Nonetheless, if media reports are to be believed, we are on the verge of yet another planet-wide outbreak. This time, the imaginary global destruction will happen courtesy of the coronavirus.

Back in realityville, the coronavirus has infected 2,700 people, or about .00003% of the global population. Almost all of the cases are in China, where the death toll has reached 82. The majority of these deaths were people who had the misfortune of already being old and sick before they contracted the virus, compounded by the disadvantage of living with China’s “ailing” health care system. Outside of China, there have been around 50 cases, none of them fatal. So far, five people in the United States have been diagnosed and none have died. Of the approximately 327,000,000 people in the U.S., approximately 326,999,995 do not have the coronavirus. There is no good reason to think that the latter number will significantly shrink, as the infected people pose a “low risk” to the public, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Still, none of this has stopped the media from printing scary graphics showing how the disease you almost certainly will not contract will affect you if it does, giving tips on how to “stay safe,” putting terrifying things in their headlines like “containing new coronavirus may not be feasible, using the word “pandemic” to describe something that is not actually a pandemic, running fantasy simulations to show what might happen in a “hypothetical” worst-case scenario, and urging the public to “protect” itself.

I don’t mean to spoil the twist ending, but here’s how to protect yourself from the coronavirus if you live in America: Do nothing special at all. Carry on with your life. Wash your hands. Avoid ingesting the bodily fluids of strangers, as much as possible. Do all of the normal things you would do to maintain a healthy life. Media reports indicate that face masks are an “ineffective” way of preventing the spread of the virus. What the reports forget to mention is that it would be a sign of delusional paranoia if a person in the United States went around wearing a mask for fear of a disease that almost nobody in this hemisphere actually has.

In this insightful interview, Max and Egon talk about the 2010s as a decade of fantasy and decadence.

Central bankers medicine has enabled the terminally ill patient to survive for much longer than he should have. But that sadly will soon come to an end.

Egon further warns: Stocks will be a complete carnage, particularly against real money like gold, equities are about to lose 95% of their value.

Also covered:

How much longer can the world live on thin air?

Revealed: Anti-virus company Avast has been selling data from its 435 million users to companies including Google, Microsoft, Home Depot and Pepsi including their web history, location and porn searches

Avast used a browser plugin and antivirus software to track its users

The company tracked web history of millions of its 435 million users

That data includes porn searchers and in some cases what video was watched

Data is anonymized but experts warn its specificity endangers privacy

Popular anti-virus company Avast has been selling user data that includes specific web browsing history to major companies around the world.

According to a joint investigation by Motherboard and PCMag, Avast, which claims to have more than 435 million users, has been using a subsidiary called Jumpshot to sell user data to companies including Google, Microsoft, Home Depot, Pepsi and more.

Documents and leaked user data obtained in the investigation reveal that information collected by Avast on tens of millions of its users include details that most consider to be sensitive, such as web browsing history, and that some of that data is granular enough to track individual clicks on a web page.

In addition to search histories, location histories, and which videos a user watched on YouTube, documents show that Avast tracked visits to porn sites like PornHub or YouPorn and in some cases logged the time a user visited the site and which specific video they watched and queries they entered.

Though the data is reportedly not personally-identifiable, meaning it's not accompanied by a name or other identifier, experts interviewed by Motherboard say the level of detail tracked by Avast may undermine its anonymity.

Over 1,200 Store Closings announced in 2020

Will the store closings ever end? According to this PYMNTS report over 1,200 retail store closings have been announced in 2020, and it’s only January.

The new year has not been kind to retail stores around the country, as the trend of accelerating store closings continues, according to a report by Yahoo! Finance.

Macy’s, JCPenney, Papyrus, Express and Pier 1 Imports, among other retailers, have reported 1,218 closings this year already, according to data from global marketing research firm Coresight Research.

Last year, 9,200 stores closed, including locations like Payless ShoeSource, Fred’s, Gymboree and Charlotte Russe. There were also widespread closures by Family Dollar, Forever 21, Charming Charlie, Sears, Kmart, A.C. Moore and GameStop.

This will be the fourth year in a row that retailers will shutter 100 million square feet of space, which equals about 562 Walmart supercenters.

“This year will generally be more of the same,” said Robin Trantham, a consultant for real estate data tracker CoStar. “We expect many companies – and many sizable companies – to announce closures.”

While the beginning of the year normally sees a number of closures after the holiday season, the sheer number and breadth signify a problem that goes deeper than business as usual.

For example, Pier 1 Imports will close almost half of its stores, up to 450 locations. Schurman Retail Group is closing 246 stores, which includes Papyrus and American Greetings. Express, a fashion retailer, will close 91 stores, including 31 by the end of this month and 35 by the end of January next year. Macy’s is closing 29 locations and JCPenney is closing six. Bed Bath & Beyond will shutter 60 stores as well.
