Amador County officials: Airman’s story about crime ‘doesn’t match up’

"The evidence that we saw, that we collected, don't match what he said happened to him," Mynderup said.

"He wanted to get out of the military is what he told me," said Keiffer's wife, Shanika.

Shanika Keiffer lives in North Dakota, where her husband is stationed. She said the couple moved there from Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield less than a month ago.

She said her husband was on leave when she learned police were questioning his story about being attacked.

"I think it's starting to sound like he did make it up," Shanika Keiffer said. "I want to say it's possible that he made it up because there's always an excuse."
