put the image into gimp and screw around with color curves. you can see a lot more than what it looks like there. The image is more understandable if you see it with alternative color schemes.
the gif cycles through about 10 different examples of using color curves in gimp.
down load the image and open it in gimp and look at the frames, or just view it as an animation.
you 'see' it as almost a plasma field in one of the views.
all I did was use color curves under the colors menu, and screwed with the tool dialog to get different exposure and color mapping for the whole image. View the animation in the gif, it shows the same image with different color curves for each frame.
