US Lawmakers Introduce Bill to Reform NSA’s Data Collection, Surveillance Program

 

A new, bipartisan-backed bill introduced in the US House of Representatives seeks to limit the National Security Agency’s (NSA) authority to conduct surveillance on Americans’ phone records and collect other associated communications.

 

Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) was joined by a bipartisan, bicameral coalition of lawmakers on January 23 to propose a series of changes regarding government intelligence agencies’ surveillance.

 

The bill specifically addresses Section 215 of the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act - also known as the USA PATRIOT Act - which came about following the terror attacks against the US on September 11, 2001, and grants the NSA authority to access US citizens’ phone records, GPS information, online browsing and search history and related communications.

 

Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), a co-sponsor of the legislation, expressed in Wyden’s press release that it’s Congress’ constitutional duty to reform Section 215, as the “Intelligence Community made it clear that it does not believe Fourth Amendment privacy protections” during previous public hearings.

 

The congresswoman contended that the proposed legislation “prevents the misuse of Section 215 by clarifying that simply calling an investigation an ‘intelligence investigation’ cannot be used to circumvent Americans’ Fourth Amendment protections.”

 

The Safeguarding Americans’ Private Records Act, which was formally introduced to the House of Representatives on January 24, proposes a number of reforms, including an end to the NSA’s surveillance program over Americans’ phone records and eliminate loopholes allowing government agencies ability to conduct “investigations of information that would otherwise require a warrant.”

 

Wyden took to social media on January 23 to note that the bill’s timing is deliberate, as Section 215 is set to expire on March 15, and will thus have to be replaced.

 

Commenting on the bill in Wyden’s release, Josh Withrow, senior policy analyst for the DC-based conservative and libertarian advocacy group FreedomWorks, said that it is “an enormous step forward in securing” Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights that are otherwise “trampled on” by current legislation.

you 'see' it as almost a plasma field in one of the views.

all I did was use color curves under the colors menu, and screwed with the tool dialog to get different exposure and color mapping for the whole image. View the animation in the gif, it shows the same image with different color curves for each frame.

A new, bipartisan-backed bill introduced in the US House of Representatives seeks to limit the National Security Agency’s (NSA) authority to conduct surveillance on Americans’ phone records and collect other associated communications.

Last Defendant Convicted in Stanford International Bank $7 Billion Investment Fraud Scheme

 

The former chief of Antigua’s Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC) has pleaded guilty for his role in connection with the Stanford International Bank (SIB) Ponzi scheme.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Centilla asiatica L is a medicinal herb that has been widely used in folk medicine to treat various diseases. Asiatic Acid (AA), a triterpene and a known component of this herb, has been shown to display important biological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antidiabetic and anti-hyperlipidemic, neuroprotective, anxiolytic and antidepressant, hepatoprotective, pancrease protective, and cardio-protective.

 

OBJECTIVE:

This review focuses on AA's anti-cancer effects on the basis of published literature found in a number of databases such as PubMed and Science. Emphasis has been given to the mechanisms of action of its anti-cancer effect.

 

METHODS:

A literature survey was conducted through May 2019 using known databases such as PubMed and Science Direct using the keyword 'Asiatic acid', pairing with 'cancer', 'tumor', 'anti-cancer effect', 'cytotoxic effect', 'anti-tumor activity', 'cell line', 'animal cancer', and 'human cancer'.

 

RESULTS:

Findings suggest that AA exerts anti-cancer effects in several test systems through various pathways, including oxidative/antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxicity, apoptotic cell death, necrosis, anti-angiogenesis, inhibition of proliferation and cell migration, and chemoprevention.

 

CONCLUSIONS:

AA may be an effective plant-based cancer chemotherapeutic agent and a promising lead for the development of potent anticancer drugs.

A AF1 designated aircraft (POTUS NOT ON) 92 9000 has recently be flying with 82 8000, the other AF1 designated aircraft. Followed 92 9000 to Omaha, Nebraska. It circled for quite a while and then disappeared over Omaha at low altitude. Interesting, at the same time there were two surveillance aircraft, one AF, the other Navy. Caught the AF plane type as E-4B Night Watch but couldn’t get the navy designator but know it is another surveillance craft. Very interesting trail on the AF craft. I don’t understand what they are doing.
