8chan gets back online—and is promptly forced off again

8chan was live again at 8kun.net, but not for long

8chan was back online this week—albeit with a new name—three months after the site was essentially kicked off the public Internet. 8Chan is now called 8kun and located at 8kun.net. (In Japanese, "chan" is generally an honorific for children while "kun" is generally an honorific for young adults.)

We were able to access the site this morning, but it's offline again now around mid-day. 8chan administrator Ron Watkins previously warned that DDoS attacks and people protesting against 8chan's re-emergence could cause problems.

"Not sure how long we will be able to stay online with clearnet due to activists trying to deplatform us, and hackers preparing to ddos us. The tor hidden service should remain available regardless," Watkins wrote on Twitter Saturday. 8kun was also available on Loki, which Watkins described as an experimental alternative to Tor.

I spent 20 years in the U.S Steelworkers union..I KNOW they are all bought and paid for…Don't try and hand me any BULLSHIT

The Unfair Ways Unions Use Resources from Taxpayers, Members

You wouldn’t spend money on something you don’t want or need, right? If you did, that would be a waste. And certainly, no one should force you to waste your own money.

Believe it or not, people are being forced to spend their money all the time in ways they don’t want to — by legal means, nonetheless. Unions have slipped through the cracks of transparency and accountability, operating in ways that are testing the constitutional limits of the First Amendment.

Two recent reports have revealed shocking details of how unions workers’ and taxpayers’ resources to advance union interests. That sometimes includes funding political speech with money people have been forced to pay, even if they don’t support the union’s political ideology.

Freedom of association and the rights of both workers and taxpayers are then called into question, in both the public and private sectors.

Justice CIO Klimavicz set to retire

Longtime Department of Justice CIO Joe Klimavicz will retire from government at the end of February.

Klimavicz has more than 40 years in government service, the last six of which were as Justice CIO. He told staff Wednesday about his plans in an email, obtained by FedScoop.

Klimavicz didn’t mention what’s next for him, but said he is “excited and energized by what opportunities lie ahead of me.” He also summarized some of his office’s achievements, such as reducing the department’s “IT footprint by uniting the DOJ enterprise under a single cohesive email system and by consolidating our data centers from an inventory of over 110 facilities to less than a dozen.”
