Renton Hazen High School closed Monday over coronavirus concerns

RENTON, Wash. – Hazen High School in Renton is closed Monday after one of its students and their parent reported flu-like symptoms.
Both the parent and student were tested for COVID-19 Saturday and are self-quarantined at home while they wait for the results, according to superintendent Damien Pattenaude.
The parent works in the health care industry and become sick last Sunday. The student become sick Wednesday afternoon and didn’t go to school on Thursday or Friday.
Hazen High School says they are undergoing thorough cleaning and disinfecting of the school. They will also be contacting families of staff and students that may have come into contact with the student last week.
“The safety of our students and staff is our priority,” Pattenaude said. “In partnership with Public Health and Seattle & King County, we will take the necessary precautionary steps as our community faces this health challenge.”
