Re: Horse doping

Funny enough, I work at a western store and was talking with my coworker who has been in the competitive horse world nearly his entire life. I have never been around horses more than a handful of times so I am always asking him questions about the topic. We were discussing the competition one of the riders he trained was participating in last week and he was explaining to me how most of the practices would be considered animal abuse. He said that most of the horses are on at least one substance. Anything from excessive supplement to adderall (or other various adhd drugs) to even cocaine.

I’ve heard from others that the creation and distribution of drugs such as cocaine and meth have been rampant in the equine community as well. Which didn’t surprise me as much, simply because we see dealers come in from time to time to buy buckets upon buckets of joint supplement (enough for about 100 horses for 2 years) to cut their product with. (We’ve informed the police - they don’t care).

I will send the article posted in pb to my coworker and see if he happens to know or have heard any further info on these people mentioned.
