Lots of Old Italian families in the Chicago area have 2 kitchens. One upstairs and one in the basement and they do most of their cooking in the basement kitchen. I don't know why, maybe an Italian anon can fill in why.

My brother-in-law grew up in a very Italian neighborhood, but he is not Italian. He said all of his Italian friends had a grandma living with them and the grandma was always cooking.
One of the reasons that I actually stopped going to church many years ago was because of all of the hand shaking.
