I was gonna say.
Didn't seem right.
quick check
"Comets are very small in size relative to planets. Their average diameters usually range from 750 meters (2,460 feet) or less to about 20 kilometers (12 miles)."
"The Hale Bopp Comet, for example has a nucleus of more than 60 miles in diameter, which is thought to be the biggest ever encountered, so far. And Comet Hyakutake's tail stretched out at a distance of more than 500 million km from the nucleus, the largest known"
Diameter of Jupiter 139,820 km
The tail of the biggest comet ever was 1/ 2 million miles long. But the comet itself was 60 miles across?
So…The the tail of the comet is 5x's the size of Jupiter.
P.S. Earth has passed through the tail of a Comet many times to no hazard
"1910: Earth passes through the tail of Halley's comet. The anticipation of its arrival creates quite a stir. In some circles, the comet's unusually close approach is seen as a sign of impending doom, a notion the down-market press does little to dispel.
The comet was named for British astronomer Edmond Halley, the first to determine its orbit and accurately predict its return to the Earth's night sky. Although Halley died 16 years before his prediction could be tested, the comet appeared on Christmas night 1758, right on schedule. It's been Halley's comet ever since, appearing at regular 74- to 79-year intervals.
The 1910 pass of Earth was especially close and, thanks to expansive newspaper coverage, eagerly anticipated by the general public. In fact, Earth's orbit carried it through the end of the comet's 24-million-mile-long tail for six hours on May 19, earning the story the day's banner headline in The New York Times."
"What is the next comet to pass by Earth?
Comet Blanpain passes 0.09 AU from Earth on January 11th, 2020, one of its closest passes for the 21st century. Currently, Blanpain is only at +18 magnitude, and expected to only reach a faint +15th magnitude.Dec 19, 2019"
