If you don't need the money, why not surprise a struggling young couple w/kids by paying their rent or mortgage, gifting them car repairs and/or gift cards to grocery store? If I had $2K to give, I'd focus on young heterosexual families who may not be quite destitute, but on the verge. Just my two cents b/c that's all I have.
