Codell, Kansas was created as a Union Pacific Railroad depot. Unable to establish an agreement w/ the town of Motor, Codell was created as a RR town and the subsequent businesses moved over. Motor was eventually abandoned in 1889.

 

Codell was hit by a tornado on the same exact day, May 20th, 3 years in a row.
