Plum Island’s move to Kansas: ‘This research facility is an accident waiting to happen’

June 3, 2015

Groundbreaking for the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), a $1.25 billion project by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), took place last Wednesday in Manhattan, Kansas. The new facility will focus biosafety level 3 agriculture (BSL-3Ag) research on dangerous livestock diseases such as African swine fever and foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and will focus its BSL-4 research on such deadly pathogens as the Hendra and Nipah viruses, which are zoonotic pathogens that can be transmitted from animals to humans and for which no treatment is available.

R-CALF USA Vice President Mike Schultz who raises cattle in Brewster, Kansas, said the United States is making a terrible mistake by bringing the live FMD virus into Kansas.

“Congress and the President are ignoring the science that tells us this research facility is an accident waiting to happen,” he said.

When construction is complete, and for the first time since the 1929 FMD outbreak in California, the live FMD virus will once again be reintroduced to the United States’ mainland. Foot-and mouth disease is the most highly infectious animal disease presently known to cloven-footed animals such as cattle, swine, sheep and deer. Nearly 100 percent of exposed animals become infected. To accommodate the DHS’ request to bring the live FMD virus to the mainland, Congress first had to change U.S. law that restricted use of the live FMD virus to coastal islands. Since the 1950s, all U.S. research on FMD was conducted at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, located on an island off the northern tip of Long Island, New York.

SAN DIEGO —

Federal authorities have charged a man known to have lived in Chula Vista with trafficking millions of dollars in illegal drugs through a tunnel that stretched from Mexico to a warehouse in Otay Mesa.

Rogelio Flores Guzman, 54, a Mexican national with legal residency in the U.S., was charged Friday with trafficking in fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and marijuana.

Flores, who was also known to have lived in Las Vegas and Victorville, was taken into custody Thursday at Los Angeles International Airport as he was boarding a plane to Guadalajara, Mexico. He was arraigned Friday afternoon in federal court via live video because of COVID-19 precautions.

April 14, 1865: President Lincoln is shot by an assassin in Washington

By mid-April 1865, the American Civil War, the bloodiest conflict in our nation’s history, was nearly over. Richmond, the Confederate capital had fallen. Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia, the bane of the Union Army for nearly four years, had surrendered the week before. President Abraham Lincoln had already visited the former Confederate capital. Although Confederates continued to resist in certain places, the Confederacy was finished.

Actor John Wilkes Booth was one of the ringleaders of a scheme to assassinate or kidnap the President and several other members of his cabinet. And on the night of April 14, 1865, Booth snuck into the presidential box at Ford’s Theater and shot the president in the back of the head as he watched a play. Lincoln would linger for a few hours but die early the next morning. Booth’s conspiracy soon fell apart and his co-conspirators arrested.

Booth thought that by removing Lincoln, Vice President Andrew Johnson and Secretary of State William Seward, he could breathe life into a dead cause. Booth was a famous actor from a family of famous actors. However, although his brother was a staunch supporter of the Union, he was a Confederate sympathizer. And with the family being from Maryland, it wasn’t rare to have family members on opposite sides of the conflict.

MAJOR: Plans to Re-Open – U.S Surgeon General Adams DUMPS GATES ‘Predictive Contagion’ Model

WASHINGTON DC – In a stunning turn of events, Surgeon General Jerome Adams explained in an interview on live XM radio, that the Coronavirus Task Force has, effectively, dumped the Bill Gates/CDC/WHO predictive contagion model, and is now working with the real data.

He explained on the Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow, that given the new data, businesses will begin to re-open as early as May, others in June.

This runs contrary to the out-and-out fear-mongering of Dr. Fauci and Bill Gates who have made a media tour, threatening the public that businesses may not re-open for six months to a year, or until and unless governments purchase their conveniently patented, big-pharma vaccination.

According to Dr. Adams:

“What the American people need to know now is we actually have data, and so we’re tracking that data,”

Andrew Neil says globalisation is in RETREAT as EU aims to end reliance on other nations

ANDREW NEIL has revealed globalisation will "be in serious retreat" by the end of the year, as European countries aim to end their reliance on other nations and shift towards producing their own supply chains.

The BBC broadcaster made the revelation while commenting on changing scenarios in Europe, as leaders shift priorities to help better respond to the coronavirus pandemic. Andrew Neil pointed out French President Emmanuel Macron unveiled such plans when he said supply chains will have to become "more French". Germany's health minister announced similar measures and said the country shouldn't be dependent on other nations for medicines and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Pandemic Seen As Opportunity To Drive Cars Off City Streets

One man’s deadly virus is another man’s sledge hammer to drive smart city policies, including booting cars out of city centers to make way for foot traffic, scooters and public transit. Demand for this is falsely attributed to local urbanites rather than green urban planners. ⁃ TN Editor

Last Tuesday, a Gemballa Mirage GT barrelled into a series of parked cars on a Manhattan street. The driver fled and was arrested. And for a moment, New York seemed almost normal, free of the quiet that has ruled the city for three weeks, since residents were ordered to shelter in place to corral the spread of the novel coronavirus. As traffic has evaporated, car crashes in the city have dropped more than 50 percent compared with the same time last year. So have injuries to drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists. The air is cleaner, the honking but an echo.

Cities that have seen traffic calmed, however, face a new kind of congestion—not on their streets but their sidewalks. Like urbanites around the world, New Yorkers barred from offices, bars, theaters, and restaurants are crowding into the city’s public spaces, often trampling social distancing rules in the process. Mayor Bill de Blasio said police will begin fining people up to $500 for disobeying the order to stay 6 feet from others, a price that has since doubled. “Anyone who’s not social distancing at this point actually is putting other people in danger,” the mayor said on The Today Show.

Democrats Score a Surprise Win in Wisconsin

Liberal judge Jill Karofsky unseats conservative member of state Supreme Court

(NEWSER) – Democrats have emerged with a surprise victory out of last week's controversial election. Liberal judge Jill Karofsky easily unseated a conservative member of the state Supreme Court, reports the New York Times. It's the first time in a dozen years that a challenger defeated an incumbent on the high court and only the second time in 50 years, notes the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Also pleasing Democrats is that President Trump endorsed the incumbent, Daniel Kelly, three times, including a tweeted plea on Election Day for voters to get out "NOW" and support him. The victory came after Republican lawmakers overcame Democrats' attempts to postpone the election because of the coronavirus and to relax requirements to receive a mail ballot.

"Look, we shouldn’t have had the election on Tuesday," said Karofsky in a video message to supporters Monday. "It was an untenable decision (on whether to vote), but the people of the state of Wisconsin rose up." Conservatives still hold a 4-3 majority on the court, but Karofsky's victory means control will be up for grabs in 2023. The AP calls it a "huge win" for Democrats in a battleground state, but it's not clear what the implications are for the presidential vote later this year. The Times notes that strong turnout and mail voting appear to have helped Democrats, but both Democratic and Republican party officials say the circumstances surrounding last week's vote were so unusual that it might be dangerous to read too much into them
