Does Liberalism Cause mental Illness?

The great Zach Goldberg, the youngish Ph.D student who has been quantifying the explosion of “wokeness” in the news media and elsewhere over the last decade, has been looking through the raw data in the Pew Research Center’s latest American Trends Panel Survey, and unearthed some interesting findings, which you can see here.

Top line: liberals are more than twice as likely as conservatives to be found to have a mental health condition.

Especially notable is the lower chart, which shows that “very liberal” whites are much more likely to have mental health problems than “very liberal” non-whites.

I’d love to see this broken out further by income, as I suspect that problem is especially strong with rich white liberals.

Turns out this isn’t an isolated finding. There’s a preprint paper posted in February on ResearchGate from Emil O.W. Kirkegaard of the Ulster Institute for Social Research entitled “Mental Illness and the Left.” The entire paper is available for download, but here’s the abstract:

It has been claimed that left-wingers or liberals (US sense) tend to be more mentally ill than right-wingers or conservatives. This potential link was investigated using the General Social Survey. A search found 5 items measuring one’s own mental illness in different ways (e.g.”Do you have any emotional or mental disability?”). All of these items were associated with left-wing political ideology as measured by self-report. These results held up mostly in regressions that adjusted for age, sex, and race. For the variable with the most data, the difference in mental illness between “extremely liberal” and “extremely conservative” was 0.39 d. This finding is congruent with numerous findings based on related constructs.

After three years of frustration, the MSM and D party have lost all composure and professionalism, and Trump has masterfully exposed their lies and true motives. Hedge Fund Managers Quietly Apply For Bailouts As Small Businesses

Several hedge funds have attempted to tap into the $349 billion Paycheck Protection Program included in the historic $2 trillion US stimulus package designed to keep small businesses afloat during the chinavirus pandemic. Managed by the Small Business Administration, the PPP was intended to cover payroll, rent and utilities for up to eight weeks, providing loans which convert to grants if recipients retain or rehire their workers. In fact, an entire cottage industry has sprung up surrounding the program, with law firms hosting webinars for struggling businesses looking for guidance on how to gain access to the funds.

And as Bloomberg reports, some hedge funds have already applied - certifying on an official form that their small businesses (with fewer than 500 employees), and that the "current economic uncertainty makes this loan request necessary to support the ongoing operations."

While the rules of the program make clear that banks and insurance companies are ineligible for the small-business loans, it's less clear where hedge funds and proprietary trading shops fall - as the Treasury and Small Business Administration's policies are unfortunately murky.

One manager, who asked not to be named, said he was outraged when he received a note from his accountant analyzing his potential eligibility. Why, he asked, would a hedge fund that earns its money collecting management fees, and can make money if it’s skilled, avail itself of a government handout? -Bloomberg

The move by hedge funds - endeavors which carry the fundamental risk of loss - has raised more than a few eyebrows.

Ironically, hedge funds are designed to employ as few people as possible so star traders don’t have to share millions of dollars in fees. The industry gets its name from the premise it can generate gains even when markets fall.

The question of whether to partake in the program is dividing members of the money management community. Some traders have called it morally corrupt, while others insist they are small businesses – just like hair salons, restaurants and dry cleaners – that could use a helping hand after global markets tumbled and cost them money. Given that the program is first come, first served, some managers were quick to submit their paperwork, according to market participants, even if eligibility remains unclear. -Bloomberg

One such hedge fund manager is David Motschwiller - head of trading firm First New York, who said he was still deciding whether to try and tap into the funds to pay employees, including a receptionist and office manager who are effectively furloughed since everybody is working from home. After reaching out to around 15 other hedge funds from his network about whether they too were contemplating tapping into the PPP, Motschwiller claims that "no one has said 'no'."

Bloomberg notes that while the industry's top players probably have no interest in the bailouts, money managers who are just starting out might be encouraged to apply in order to help launch their dreams, according to Anthony Scaramucci, founder of SkyBridge. The former White House employee and turncoat says that "Just because the business has a name, private equity or hedge fund manager, doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re loaded with rich people."

The chatter among money managers has grown loud enough to prompt a warning last week from Aksia, which advises institutional investors on placing money with hedge funds and other alternative investment firms. The firm said it would view any opportunistic use of the program “negatively” when counseling pension funds and other institutions with about $160 billion to invest.

A manager with a healthy business who takes advantage of a program that isn’t “precisely defined, is not only showing poor moral judgment and potentially hurting the reputation of the alternatives industry, but it’s also probably crowding out struggling workers and businesses severely impacted by Covid-19,” Aksia said in the memo. -Bloomberg

Meanwhile, hedge fund industry group The Managed Funds Association has also come out against the use of PPP loans, saying in a statement "While we recognize that every manager must make their own decision about the viability of their firm, we have provided guidance to our members that we do not believe the money in this program was intended for managers general partnership interests."

I've struggled with this myself, and learned lots of lessons lately (the hard way) by having folks simply poke holes in an argument or statement that I, personally, took on as belief instead of having any real evidence for claims. If what anons are doing here is going to progress over the next few months in a direction where folks like "you and I" are going to be tasked with spreading the message to people looking for answers, having this perspective may help in that regard.

Anons have collected pages, screenshots, backups, tweets, art, media, and government documentation that can help point anons in a direction to gain knowledge of how to interpret everything anons have gathered. Anons know the gov't knows "something" about all these people. Anons also know the gov't, in many high-level, and very key positions, are/were absolutely compromised. Anons know of what Q is trying to show us. Anons know of some of the details of these sick people's personal lives. However, if you step back a moment, and use your imagination, an argument could be made that all of this can be construed in a way to make anons believe a version of things in which they truly have no real knowledge. Exactly where did you bother to debunk any of the claims made? Did you go and look for verification of the evidence provided, or have you in the past? Yes? No? Maybe? They gave first had interpretations of things they've observed throughout their careers, and presented an intersecting storyline of how their life experiences "puzzle together" a narrative of some really sinister shit. Did they actually prove anything? If you wanted to cast doubt on the documentary, this is how you'd do it.

You'd offer an alternative explanation to the evidence they provided to base their claims on. You didn't do that. You attacked a journalist who they themselves claim were well respected, and "going places" until they started reporting on these findings; like pizzagate. You called her "cheesy, ambitious bleached blonde" and implied she's a whore. What this really means is you have nothing. No source, no evidence to the contrary; zilch. Nadda. You didn't even try. You went straight for the ad hominem. That's some weak shit.

Again, If you wanted to cast doubt, real doubt, on the content, then you'd address the previous points by saying something to the effect of "The people that put in the research and personal testimony provide their interpretation of events and facts as they see them. Example:
