Who is Bill de Blasio? Here are some things to know about New York City’s mayor

He was born Warren Wilhelm Jr.

The mayor wasn’t officially “Bill de Blasio” until January 2002 when he changed his fucking name! not too long after becoming a member of the New York City Council. It was not the first time he changed his identity, according to the New York Daily News.

De Blasio was named after his father, Warren Wilhelm Sr., but decided to change it the first time in 1983 to Warren de Blasio-Wilhelm, to honor his mother’s Italian heritage. His mother’s maiden name was Maria Angela de Blasio.

In the early 1990s, he began using the name Bill de Blasio and officially changed it after a judge’s approval in 2002.

Racked in the cash – and got fined for it

In de Blasio’s first mayoral race, he received nearly $10.6 million in contributions, which – according to the New York City Campaign Finance Board – were made in an average of $862 contributions.

For his most recent mayoral campaign, he received $12,400 from liberal megadonor George Soros and his sons, Robert and Alexander.

Today the democratic mayoral candidate for New York City Bill De Blasio released a statement the his father, Warren Wilhelm, had killed himself in 1979.

In July of that year, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Wilhelm parked his car in front of the Rocky River Motel in New Milford, Connecticut, and shot himself.

This is the first time De Blasio, who has talked very little about his estranged father, has mentioned how he died.

New proposed $2K per month COVID-19 payment includes college students, dependents over 16

New legislation proposed by representatives Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) Wednesday would expand stimulus payments to millions of Americans while the nation battles the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak. Khanna and Ryan are responsible for proposing the initial $1,200 stimulus check plan.

If passed, the new Emergency Money for the People Act would mean all single Americans over the age of 16 earning less than $130,000 would be given a monthly $2,000 check "until employment returns to pre-COVID-19 levels." Married Americans earning less than $260,000 jointly would be given $4,000 per month, and families with children would receive an extra $500 per child, up to three children. These payments would be untaxed and guaranteed for at least six months, and would continue until the unemployment (of those over the age of 16) falls to pre-pandemic levels.
