FBI collected improper cell phone pictures while spying on Carter Page in Russia probe

Page says multiple FBI misconduct issues in Russia case make it worse than Watergate.

The list of FBI misdeeds in the Russia investigation keeps piling higher.

In addition to filing inaccurate Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants, hiding evidence of innocence from the courts and falsifying a government document, the bureau collected inappropriate cell phone photos during two secret premises searches in summer 2017 while spying on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

The revelations surfaced belatedly this week when the government declassified once-redacted footnotes from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s investigative report on the bungled Russia case.

Footnote 379 revealed that in 2019, nearly two years after the inappropriate pictures were gathered, the Justice Department’s National Security Division (NSD) self-reported two violations notifying the FISA court that FBI personnel conducting two premises searches violated rules designed to protect Americans from unnecessary privacy invasions.

The rules are known as Standard Minimization Procedures (SMPs) and require FBI agents not to collect, gather or store privacy information about an American target that isn’t germane to the investigation, according to current and former FBI officials familiar with the procedures.

The footnote lays out in detail the concerns disclosed to the court, saying the improper actions occurred after the fourth and final FISA warrant against Page was issued in summer 2019 and FBI employees conducted two secret premises searches.

“On May 10, 2019, NSD sent a second letter to the FISC concerning the Carter Page FISA applications, advising the court of two indicants in which the FBI failed to comply with the SMPs applicable to physical searches conducted pursuant to the final FISA orders issued by the court on June 29, 2017,” the footnote said.

“According to the letter, the FBI took and retained on an FBI‐issued cell phone photographs of certain property taken in connection with a FISA‐authorized physical search on July 13, 2017, which NSD assessed did not comport with the SMPs,” the footnote from Horowitz added.

“In addition in a separate incident on July 29, 2017, the FBI took photographs in connection with another FISA‐authorized physical search and transferred the photographs to an electronic folder on the FBI's classified secret network.”

The FBI eventually reported that it had taken “remedial action” to resolve the procedural violations. Officials said that could have included removing the inappropriate photos from its servers and possibly destroying them.

The footnotes are not more specific about what physical searches were conducted in connection with the Page FISA, what photos were taken and whose privacy was not protected by the minimization rules.

In an interview, Page said he has always suspected while he was staying in hotels in New Jersey and Connecticut in summer 2019 that FBI officials may have searched one or more of his locations and that he was dismayed to learn some rules were not followed.

Page said he had stayed at the hotel rooms because he had received death threats and feared for his safety after his name surfaced in news media leaks that he was under investigation for possible collusion with Russia. Page was eventually cleared, and it has since been revealed he had been an asset helping the CIA.

Two senators on Thursday asked FBI Director Christopher Wray to provide all records on the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.

Senators Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) in a letter to Wray (pdf) questioned how much Russian disinformation influence had “infected” the FBI’s investigation. They cited recently declassified information on the Steele dossier, which showed that a portion of the dossier likely was the product of a Russian disinformation campaign.

U.S. Oil Fund to Move Giant WTI Position as Market Sours

The $3.8 billion U.S. Oil Fund, which accounts for nearly 25% of all outstanding contracts in the most-traded West Texas Intermediate crude futures, said it will alter some of its position, citing market and regulatory conditions.

The exchange-traded fund, which normally holds WTI futures for the nearest month, will now move 20% of its contracts to the second-traded month. The change takes effect today and will be in place until further notice, it said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The shift, announced late on Thursday, coincided with sharp movements in the price relationship between the June and July WTI contracts, traders said.

“As a result of these changes, USO may not be able to meet its investment objective,” according to the filing.

As of Thursday the fund held almost 150,000 June Nymex WTI contracts, which is more than a quarter of the total outstanding. It has received more than a billion dollars worth of inflows so far this week as WTI prices have plummeted below $20 a barrel.

Though low prices are attractive to many investors, they come at a cost. The nearest WTI contracts are trading more than $7 a barrel below the subsequent month. That means that investors face a 30% hit to keep the same position as futures contracts roll from one month to the next.

WTI’s June contract discount to July deepened 71 cents to $4.73 by 8:15 a.m. in New York on Friday. The move will see selling of June contracts and buying of July ones, which could widen the spread further.

In Miami a doctor lost custody of her 4-year-old temporarily. The judge said it’s in the best interest of her child since she’s on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alabama and Florida laws aren't identical, but is this something front line workers here should be concerned about?

The short answer is yes. Attorney Will League tells us it’s all up to the judge, and every judge has their own point of view on things like this.

On Tuesday we told you about the Florida mother’s move to appeal the judge’s decision.

The doctor says she's been able to wear full personal protective equipment while treating patients.

And she says she’s done everything she can to avoid contracting COVID-19.

League says the judge weighed the risks and did what they thought what was best. And he says the decision is just temporary, and the judge has every right to make it.

“The judge can do that. They have wide discretion and latitude to make these decisions. The judge in this case indicated that he did not make this decision lightly. He appreciates the effort and the bravery the doctor is showing of being on the front lines but felt it was the best interest of the child for him or her to be protected during this temporary time,” League said.

League says if you’re an essential employee and are in this situation, the best thing you can do is show the judge everything you’re doing to protect your child.

Charity Salyers bought the place last year. She says things were just picking up when the pandemic hit. Like all restaurants, she was forced to close her doors.

"I've had to cut my staff back from 10 to 12 people per day to 2 people plus me," said Salyers.

Now we know one possible reason for that omission: FBI Counterintelligence Division Assistant Director Bill “Priestap told the OIG that he recalled that he may have made a commitment to Steele’s former employer not to document the former’s employer’s views on Steele as a condition for obtaining the information.”

That’s quite a promise when agents must rely on the official file to accurately swear out a surveillance application!

Musician anon here. I played Q's video from #3975 into my guitar tuner app and found the dominant notes in the "Great Falls" piece were mostly slightly sharp B's…somewhere in between a B and a C, over several octaves.

Chris Cuomo: CNN host hit with police complaint after threatening elderly man

The "jackass, loser, fat-tire biker" that CNN's Chris Cuomo berated on radio has filed a formal police complaint against the Prime Time anchor.

The 65-year-old Long Island man, David Whelan, was the subject of a Cuomo tirade during a broadcast of "Let's Get After It with Chris Cuomo" over an alleged verbal confrontation between the two on Easter Sunday.

According to the East Hampton police complaint, obtained by The Independent, Cuomo allegedly threatened Mr Whelan, saying he hadn't "seen the last of him" and that "he would beat the crap out" of him.

"At this time D. Whelan does not wish to pursue charges but does want the situation documented as he is worried about C. Cuomo retaliating against him," the report said.

In an interview with The New York Post, Mr Whelan said he approached Cuomo and asked why he wasn't social distancing.

"I said to him, 'Your brother is the coronavirus czar, and you're not even following his rules — unnecessary travel'," he said.

Cuomo has been in quarantine and broadcasting from his Southampton home since announcing on 31 March that he had tested positive for coronavirus.

According to Mr Whelan, Cuomo responded: "'Who the hell are you?! I can do what I want!' He just ranted, screaming, 'I'll find out who you are!'"

"He said, 'This is not the end of this. You'll deal with this later. We will meet again.' If that's not a threat, I don't know what is," Mr Whelan said.

Cuomo vented about the incident during his SiriusXM radio show on Monday, explaining that his public profile prevented him from firing back at people talking "bullshit".

"I want to be able to tell you to go to hell, to shut your mouth," Cuomo said. "I don't get that doing what I do for a living, me being able to tell you to shut your mouth or I will do you the way you guys do each other."

"I don't want some jackass, loser, fat-tire biker being able to pull over and get in my space and talk bullshit to me, I don't want to hear it."

It is the second major controversy to come out of Monday's show, during which Cuomo seemingly had an existential crisis and said he didn't want to work at CNN because he didn't value indulging irrationality and hyperpartisanship.

-Not surprisingly in the “Age of Trump,” politics has infected this infectious disease. More liberals seem to be in favor of the “lockdowns” with more conservatives in favor of re-opening the nation for business

-At least with regard to the politics infecting the COVID-19 crisis, conservatives find themselves in a weak or even untenable position. For the last number of years and decades, liberals and the far-left have come to dominate the media, academia, science, medicine, and entertainment. Not only in the United States, but in much of the world.

-As such, their “Groupthink” on the subject of COVID-19 controls the message, dictates the “solutions” and labels anyone daring to question it or them, “suspect.”

-And yet, from day one, we could see that President Trump’s instincts were telling him to question and even fight this “Groupthink.” He was right to do so then and he is even more right to do so now.

'Secret' National Guard Unit Ready To Enforce 'Martial Law' In Washington DC

Ever since governors started calling up national guard units last month, the Pentagon has insisted that the soldiers remain firmly under the command of the governors that called them up, and that the Pentagon isn't using the troops to plan for any federal 'secret missions' or 'martial law', should the crisis spiral out of control and threaten 'continuity of government'.

Now, a report in Newsweek purports to prove that the Pentagon lied. In reality, a 10,000 soldier strong national guard unit has been deployed to the capital area with a 'secret' assignment to enforce martial law in Washington DC and help evacuate lawmakers and top government officials if things go south.

In reality, the joint task force is already 10k strong, and is already on 24/7 alert.

Members of the Illinois 106th Aviation Battalion was called up under a federal statute placing them directly under the control of the Secretary of Defense. The soldiers, along with several Black Hawk helicopters, shipped out of Decatur, Illinois armory last month.

The first hints about this "secret mission" were included in a local Illinois newspaper's report about the call-up of Illinois National Guard forces who were being deployed at Fort Belvoir outside Washington. In addition to their normal mission objectives, the report noted that the unit had also been assigned a bevy of unfamiliar tasks, including: evacuating officials, lawmakers and members of the judiciary aboard 106th Aviation Regiment helicopters.

The soldiers in the unit, as well as their commanders, have been studying the Joint Emergency Evacuation Plan - the official protocol for moving and protecting senior officials at the Defense Department - and other plans that cover the evacuation of top civilian officials, like lawmakers and the president.

However, if shit really does hit the fan, these contingency measures might not even be of much help: "No one wants to talk evacuation, especially when there's nowhere to go," said one purportedly 'senior' military officer who was working on 'continuity of government' planning.

Washington DC is in the midst of a spike in new coronavirus cases, and the mayor earlier this week just extended a stay at home order until the middle of next month.

“With my colleague, bio-mathematician Jean-Claude Perez, we carefully analyzed the description of the genome of this RNA virus,” explains Luc Montagnier, interviewed by Dr Jean-François Lemoine for the daily podcast at Pourquoi Docteur, adding that others have already explored this avenue:

Indian researchers have already tried to publish the results of the analyses that showed that this coronavirus genome contained sequences of another virus, … the HIV virus (AIDS virus), but they were forced to withdraw their findings as the pressure from the mainstream was too great.

In a challenging question Dr Jean-François Lemoine inferred that the coronavirus under investigation may have come from a patient who is otherwise infected with HIV.

"No," says Luc Montagnier, "in order to insert an HIV sequence into this genome, molecular tools are needed, and that can only be done in a laboratory."

According to the 2008 Nobel Prize for Medicine, a plausible explanation would be an accident in the Wuhan laboratory. He also added that the purpose of this work was the search for an AIDS vaccine.

The truth will eventually come out

In any case, this thesis, defended by Professor Luc Montagnier, has a positive turn. According to him, the altered elements of this virus are eliminated as it spreads:
